1999 dodge intrepid es: when temperature is turned up on climate control and defroster is turned on there is a fluttering noise that can be heard from drivers side dash windshield defroster vent. this excessive noise/fluttering noise is often a distraction when driving. noise is only when temperature is turned up or turned to heat on climate control. noise chagnes when temperature is adjusted. noise sounds like broken damper in ventilation hayward auto chrysler-jeep dealership states they could not duplicate it. i duplicated the problem for service manager gregory martin. he put a card above it to verify that it was blowing air then stated that's air blowing through the vent, i don't know what we can do about that. he stated he'd have the technician check it out when they remove the dash assembly off to replace the defective dash midrange speaker. they never did, they never did anything about it. none of the similar dodge intrepids i test drove did this.*ak | |||

All 4 of my power windows have failed to work and have had their motors replaced at least once. the first 5 times were within my warranty and now my front passenger window has stopped working and it is no longer under warranty. my heating and cooling system locks up on occasion and keeps the heater from working. dealer has never been able to recreate problem so can't service. *jb | |||

In normal driving conditions both the window regulator and the cable for the cruise control failed causing the glass to enter the window frame and the car to lose speed. i had the window repaired only to have it fail again and have not yet repaired the cruise control for fear of another failure. | |||

Bought 3 years ago used, it had emissions issues with the original engine. at about 74,000 miles the engine block cracked. engine design does not allow for it to cool itself properly while running and results in the oil burning within before the engine can circulate it which finally results in the sludge that so many owners have a problem with and only perseverant the high heat issue as less oil is circulated to cool the engine. my engine's block cracked providing evidence of the engine getting too hot with no gauge warning of overheating because it is overheating within the system before it gets to the sensor etc, therefore it is not a poor maintenance issue but poor design and manufacturing. with a rebuilt engine it shakes, hesitates and emits smoke with clean oil and filter and no evidence of sludge within!! now at under 96000 original miles and 22000 rebuilt engine the a/c coil has busted under the high pressure caused by the high engine temperature. the a/c pressure varies with engine pressure which varies with engine heat (still no overheating warning on the gauges). it is only addressed now that it is summer and too hot to drive without a/c. unfortunately because of the design it will cost around $850 to replace a $80-120 part because the entire dash/firewall must come out along with many other components to get to it (and then those reinstalled afterward). the battery was sucked of power around this time and the motors controlling the windows & mirrors have broken. the keyless entry system has gone as well. *jb | |||

I own a 1999 dodge intrepid and need two windows fixed regulators in the door. the garage i brought my car to said he has replaced a lot of these regulators in the 1999 dodge intrepid. i feel that if it needs to be fixed for inspection then there must be some safety reason. every time i am on the turnpike i have to open my door to hand out the money. i feel that there should be a recall on this problem. *jb | |||

Over usage of oil. could not make it from one oil change to the next. took it in faithfully every 3 months. fans went out. faulty intake replaced. a/c went out, drivers side window falls off track. motor out in drives side back window. passenger side door sticks and wont open. engine blows. all major repairs occurred within a four month period, the minor items have been occurring for approx. a year. the car has low miles. i can no longer have repairs made to this vehicle and make payments at the same time. i will return it to the bank. it has been in and out of the shop for the past four months. *jb | |||

I bought a 99 dodge intrepid from freedom ford in centre, alabama for a little over $14,000 about a year and a half ago. i went back last summer to trade in and was told that it was not even black booked for half that. since then i have had to replace the cooling system (the entire system), all the fuses, the sensory module, the tie rods are shot and now the motor has locked up. several mechanics have looked for a motor and found that the motor for this particular year of intrepid runs $1,500 to $2000 more than all other motors, even the 2001 and newer models run $1000 to $1200 at the most. their rejection to help me is due to the fact that the 99 model was an experimental motor and very few were made. i teach school and have found a co-worker whose sister has experienced the same problems. her husband contacted chrysler and after arguing with them, they paid for half of his motor, which knocked his total expense within the normally motor replacement cost. i was given a flat no from chrysler and was told that they only honor this for original car owners with less than 100,000 miles and have an active warranty. well my friend was a second car owner with more than 110,000 miles, no warranty, and is will to provide the information necessary to prove that he was in my same situation and received assistance in paying for his motor. i also have mechanics who will provide statements that after searching the auctions and hotlines for a motor they found more intrepids on the line with bad motors than any other car, some having as little as 60 and 65 thousand miles. i also have auto parts store owners who suggest that i call chrysler to have them help with the expenses due to the fact that they have helped others. i just get the run around from chrysler with no concern of me having to make a $386 car payment to ford for a piece of junk sitting in my yard, and continue pay $107 a month insurance that has to continued due to state laws. | |||

My husband john and i purchased a 1999 dodge intrepid from easy rider auto sales 3980 pine grove ave. fort gratiot, mi 48059 on april 11, 2003. the mileage on the title at time of sale was 86,554, current mileage is 88,290. i drove the car for a total of 1,736 miles. we also bought the extended warranty policy from the dealer for the car. guardian warranty company (nadn)1-800-482-7357.ext. 111. we had the car for a total of 25 days when the transmission went out. we took it to who easy rider auto sales said are a good company to do business with...lee's auto & truck repair 810-984-8947. after having the car back for a total of 8 days, i was backing out of my driveway and felt an sudden surge of power, the rpm reading was at 4,000. i was backing out slowly. i then braked and put it into park, watched the rpm gauge and seen it go over 5,000 rpm's in park at an idle. my husband contacted his friend who owns a repair shop and accepts this extended warranty we purchased. b & d auto and truck service in memphis, mi 810-367-8881. they currently have the car. the engine is totaled. b and d called the chrysler company, who told them to replace the motor because of the damages and they are aware that the 2.7,v-6 engine is trouble. b and d called the nadn company and told them about the engine. i was told that nadn doesn?t like to pay it?s claims. b and d always has to arburtrate over the money for the bill. b and d said to replace this engine would cost $8,600.00 plus tax. when we bought the extended warranty, we paid for it in full, we didn't argue about it. it is still covered! before we bought the car, lee's auto did an oil change on it. there is a sticker in the windshield that states to have it changed again at 3 months or 3,000 miles. i drove it for 1,736 miles and had it for less than 3 months. other problems include excessive rpms in idle, the power window in the back passenger side doesn't work, the trip meter doesn't work. | |||

My wife bought a 99 intrepid with 3.2l engine brand new. the car currently has 79k miles, but we have replaced the window motor (all under warranty) by the dealer 6 times (sometimes twice in the same windows). we have also been experiencing issues with the transmission such as rough changing of gears. we replaced the speed sensor once, and now the transmission is stuck in 2nd gear. we were told by the dealer the transmission will need an overhaul at $2,300. | |||

History includes blown transmission sensor, failure on the very first year inspection for brake rotors, driver's side window sticks in up position, intermittent heat control button not functioning properly, noisy when turning in front strut area, keyless remote does not function properly and now the worst of it. one month ago, took car in with oil and engine lights flashing, ticking noise from engine, stalling out. dealer did electronic sensors repairs and tune up costing $500. one month later, car had to be towed back to dealer with loud banging in engine. repair bill of over $6,000 to fix a car i've owned 3 years, 8 months and 60,000 miles. 2.7 l engines are blowing in these cars all the time making it next to impossible to purchase a used one to do repairs myself. one used car parts place said they have a waiting list. recall anyone???!! *nlm | |||

Steering: i started to feel a slight binding in the steering when trying to return wheel to center from a turn. it got progressively worse to the point where i occasionally had to wrestle the steering wheel back to center position. it also feels loose, suspension rattles and i've got 4 inches of play at center. took it to the dealer and was informed it would cost $1200 to fix. service rep tried to explain that this was pretty common nowadays with the sealed racks and not just dodge. i've never experienced this type of failure in all of the years i've owned cars and think this is just a poor design that dodge is keeping mum about. the vehicle is only 3 years old with mostly highway driving. i'm purchasing a used rack from a salvage yard and having dodge install it for $380 and then i'm selling it. this car is quickly falling apart. air conditioning: started hearing a hissing type sound from behind the dash. soon after a/c did not blow cold air. control module display also stopped working. dodge said in order to fix the a/c they had to repair the module. cost: about $600. i bough a module from a salvage yard and did it myself, saved $500. then dodge recharged the system only to have it leak out over the next several days. brought it back to dodge where they found a crack in the evaporator. replacement cost: $500. power window motor: right front power window started failing intermittently, then stopped working altogether. dealer said that the window sometimes gets stuck in the tight weatherstripping due to dirt and grime on the window and i simply need to coax it by my palm pressing down on it while actuating the button. what a bunch of @*$%! rear right window motor was replaced under warranty, this must be a common problem. dealer wants $200+ to repair. what a racket! i've never had so many major repairs on a relatively new car in my life, and don't plan to ever again if dodge knows what i mean!!*ak | |||

I purchased a new 99 dodge intrepid in june 1999. within 2 weeks of the purchase, the front passenger window motor burned out and it was replaced by the dealer. when i took the car home, i discovered the front passenger door would not open from the inside. i went back to the dealer, who said a rod was not reattached to the door when the window motor was replaced. they fixed it and the door worked fine. in april of 2000, the left rear window motor burned out and i went back to the dealer to have it replaced. in february of 2001, i went back to the dealer because the transmission would not shift into 2nd gear. i was told the solenoid pack burned out and needed to be replaced. herb gordon was not very helpful, so i called chrysler in michigan and told them the problem. the said to pay for the work and send them the original receipt and they would reimburse me for most of the work. i had the work done and sent the receipt. in july of 2001, the transmission had the same problem. herb gordon said it was the speed sensor and since they would not do the work nor did they offer to cover any part of the work, i called chrysler again. they said to have the work done and send the receipt for reimbursement. i did have the work done. approximately december 2001, the right rear window stopped working and in january of 2002 the driver's window started to work intermittantly. herb gordon said the rear motor burned out and the driver's motor was going to burn out, so i called chrysler again. they again said since i was past the original warranty, they would not cover the work. after talking with them, they said they would cover all but $100, but not a rental car even though the work would take a few hours. i learned later the driver's door latch subassembly was going to burn out and i would not be able to use the remote to open the door, only the key. i will not buy another chrysler product because of the problems i have had with the car, dealer and chrysler.*ak | |||

I have noticed upon turning the engine off, when you exit the vehicle and touch the door with your hand or leg comes in contact with lower door frame you get an electrical shock. the driver's side door continues to push the window into the rubber gromet after it has already reached the top, causing the window motor to grind and the window to overextend into the rubber gromet. both problems were noticed shortly after receipt of the car and have been an ongoing problem.*ak | |||

Transmission hesitates and is sporadic. has been in for a complete overhaul of the transmission. i still have the problem and have had it in for repair at least 3 other times. the dealer now says they cannot recreate the problem. i have had many people drive my car and they have noticed the rough shifting as well as the hesitant take off. this could be dangerous because you don't know when the transmission will engage and thrust your car forward. the other problem is the power windows. the driver window has a squeak and a grind. the dealer says they fixed it but it is doing it again. the back windows stopped functioning altogether and a part had to be ordered. the dealer did install this part in early april 2000. *ak | |||

This vehicle has been in the dealer 4 times and has 1500 miles. the major problem, was a major water leak or leaks. the vehicle has been out of service for a total of 20 days. after finding a huge puddle on the driver's side floor, dealer was contacted, and vehicle was taken apart inside and out. after dealer performed recommended repairs per technical service bulletin(980710232998), vehicle still leaked. dealer sealed every screw, grommet, and wire that entered firewall. after sending car through car wash six times, vehicle appeared leak-free. it remains to be seen if the many leaks in vehicle have actually been corrected since dealer could not pinpoint the location of any leak. *ak | |||

My car stalls when stopped, taken to dealer twice for problem. they finalled replaced the fuel pump after charging me to have computer reprogrammed. engine stil not ok, but not stalling. when accelerating engine seems to be slipping. the front passenger window was fixed about a month ago and is not working again. car has been in 2 for new brakes, i have had the rotors replaced and also turned in the 2 years i have owned the car. car shakes when stopping again, so rotors will need to be turned or replaced again. why? by looking at this web site it seems everyone is having the same problems with the intrepid. lots of complaints. why are there no recalls. we have to keep paying out of pocket for dealer defects. my dealer is 36 miles away. not easy to get car repaired. that is why window not fixed yet. help.*ak | |||

The windshield wipers have periodically stopped working unexpectedly, causing a complete loss of vision in rain and salt spray. they move an inch and then stop. sometimes they can be restarted right away, sometimes not. occasionally wipers stop in front of driver's vision. this is a serious safety issue. 99 dodge intrepid. dealer could not reproduce problem. |
