| Defect Summary | Vehicle description: non-abs equipped passenger vehicles. the brake master cylinder piston retainer snap ring may have been bent inward during the assembly process. the master cylinder piston may be in a brake applied position due to the damaged piston retainer snap ring. when the piston is in the applied position, the fluid compensation ports are closed which results in a brake drag condition. | |||||||||||||||

| Purchased a 2000 dodge intrepid from dadeland dodge in miami, fl. the car is qualified for the lemon law 3 months after purchase, but unaware of such a law and never filed. now it is too late. it is now i decided to take action since the engine blew on 04/12/03. my brother in law was driving and the engine just stopped without warning. i called for a tow truck to be taken to the dealer. the car has about 65,000 miles, and the extended warranty should have covered the repairs; however, the dealer declined. i ended up paying $2,714.87 to get the engine rebuilt. in addition, i also don't have a car for 2 months, and disputed with the dealer and extended warranty company during that span. *la | |||

| Dt: the contact owns a 2000 dodge intrepid. the contact stated that her air conditioner was not working. the engine also stalled while she was trying to accelerated from a stop on a hill. the vehicle began to roll backwards. after the vehicle stall it could be restarted, the vehicle would stall repeatedly for the rest of the day but the next day it would run properly. the dealership has attempted to repair the problem three times but they haven't been able to permanently rectify the problem. the transmission is an automatic. the consumer is also having problems getting recall work done on her brakes. all the dealer would do is run a diagnostic test and charge her more money. the manufacturer has not been contacted as of yet. *nm | |||

| Air came from the brake pedal , upon starting the vehicle and depressing the pedal. consumer tapped the pedal and it felt frozen. mechanic upon inspection indicated that the brake booster had gone out. vehicle was flat bedded to the dealership. dealership kept the vehicle for 7 days, ran 3 diagnostic test, before replacing the brake booster. within 10 miles of picking up and driving the vehicle from the dealership the engine light came on. the consumer pulled over add 3 quarts of oil and proceeding on. suddenly the transmission made a clung noise ,flowed by the engine stalling. the vehicle coasted to the side of the highway. the mechanic found metal filing in the oil. *nm | |||

| Engine in 2000 chrysler intrepid started tapping noise at 58017km brought to dealer with complaint, told they would not take engine apart to check noise. i told them i had been told that the 2.7 engine had problems with sludge that prevented the oil from circulating properly. they still refused to check engine. at just over 62000 km engine became noisy. brought it back to dealer who kept the car for two weeks, then told me engine needed to be replaced at a cost of $6500.00 and there would be no warranty coverage or goodwill. i gave them a complete history of maintenance records showing that proper maintenance was done with in the required mileage and time. they have told me that the invoices do not clearly identify my 2000 black intrepid and that it could of been another car. i only own one 2000 intrepid. the invoice shows the work the mileage and my name and date. next me they told me the invoice numbers were too close together. the work was done at four different garages. then they told me there was sludge that showed the vehicle was not properly maintained. then they asked me the brand of oil the garages used as it may have been faulty. end result is that they refuse to change their position in regards to warranty coverage or goodwill repairs and i will have to replace an engine that was bought brand new in may 2001. i am frustrated and do not know where to turn. any assistance would be greatly appreciated. | |||

| Since i bought this car on october of 1999, i have taken it to the dealer 31 times to fix things. i have been without a car 100 days. i have paid out of pocket $3,137.64. i am now on an extended warranty. i still owe $8,000.00 on my car. it has 60,000 miles. i have maintained it every 3,000 miles as suggested in the owners manual. i only use 97 octane gas. i am a very cautious driver. i take care of the car but the car has left me stranded in the middle of highways putting my life and the lives of my passengers in danger. i never know when the car is going to break down again and where so i am always under terrible stress. i pray as i drive that i make it to my destination. this car has been a lemon since i bought it. the biggest problem is the engine blowing. my brother in law was driving and i was the passenger on south dixie highway (us1) in south miami when we were at a red light and then started to go when the light turned green and without any warning lights, noises, or anything the car stopped running. it died in the middle lane. we had to push it to the side. it was rush hour and this highway is filled with very aggressive drivers. they were all cursing, beeping, signaling, and driving so close to us as to almost touch us. i was petrified. i thought a car was going to hit us. i paid for the engine repair out of my pocket, because the extended warranty company told the dealer they could not cover it because there was sludge build up. they send an adjustor who reported it to them. the dealer told us to fight it because the sludge was normal for that type of engine. we provided the extended warranty all the receipts for the maintenance that we religiously did about every 3000 miles. we also had another mechanic go in and look at the car. the other mechanic said that these types of engines always had the problem of sludge build up and that it was normal for the engine and that the extended warranty should cover it. | |||

| Brake pad on right rear (outboard pad) was on rivets and suddenly grinding into rotor with no warning. only one pad was worn completely out- the pedal dropped and stopping distance was affected. all of the other pads have quite a bit of material left on them-about 25000 miles worth.(the car is all highway miles- approx 100 a day) why are there are no wear warning sensors on any of these brake pads- that should be a safety issue.there was a brake master cyclinder recall, but we have not been notified if this car is affected. the caliper is not seized. the piston on that caliper slid back freely as did the slider sleeves. there may be a safety defect here- the rest of the pads are fine with a lot of material left. the dome light is very distracting-especially at night as it is intermittent and illuminates at random times-no rhyme or reason. dealer can not duplicate-so of course-no fix yet. the light will come on briefly and then go out just as quick. it doesn't matter if you are turning or just driving straight ahead- i can not seem to find any pattern, but it is a safety problem as an unsuspecting person may be startled and have an accident.there must be an electrical short somewhere. car bought from doan dodge in rochester, but i will be taking to closer dealer (barry)as we have moved.i had to replace the brakes and rotors, but i have saved the parts. the car is all highway miles, and it is not simpily that the brakes are worn. the rest are ok, just one worn completely down into rivets.*ak | |||
