| My 2002 dodge intrepid has had many problems since i bought it roughly four years ago. i was informed that it had a rebuilt engine and transmission. just recently it has been having problems shifting out of know where. i was at the stop light and when it turned green i pressed on the gas and it did not want to go. i let up the gas and it kicked in to first gear. when i am driving and getting up to about 30-35 mph it would go up to 3rpm and not shift. i do regular oil changes on both the transmission and engine. this problem can cause an accident because the car is just doing whatever it wants to. after reading all these other complaints it is very similar to my problem. i am understanding now why dodge stopped making intrepid. i am very disappointed and will never buy dodge again. | |||

| Bought a dodge interpid the engine has been replaced twice it's an 2.7 v.6 .... the car stalls , the light fickers on an off as well as my radio!! my sensor are faulty because it give my car fauly rreading to the wrong errs not only, that i have had build up in both engines grime and broken down pariticals! my speed is off sometime my car picks up speed by it self or it don't gain speed at all! the car also loses power for no reason at all! drain my battery four times! over heat without warning! had my trermastat replace twice!!! to many problem keep ocurring and i can keep up with any of this!! texas dmv told me about this site told me about that these cars are not any good!! please help what do i do with this car? | |||

| I own a 2002 dodge intrepid with a 2.7 liter engine. engine oil light keeps flickering. also, sometimes the check engine light comes on and then off again. i did a code check to find it was the camshaft position sensor and oxygen sensor. i took this vehicle to the dodge dealership. when i spoke to the service adviser and a mechanic, they stated that there is not much i can do, this is an on-going problem with these engines. i was shocked, way to go dodge! even your own employees don't have any faith in your products! i regularly change the oil myself every 3,000 miles with synthetic. | |||

| I own a 2002 dodge intrepid it has approx. 125,000 miles on it just got out of the shop 300 for transmission and it is not fixed it started to rain really hard mid june 10 since then car goes into what i know now as limp mode it goes into second gear and wont come out unless you pull over turn off and restart was fixing to call actual dodge place then read on the internet of all the problems that are being had with these transmissions and engines as well. my car has started over heating. no warning has fluids. for 300 had everything services with fluids etc and an additive put in and told dont know how to replace transmission then i read person after person saying they are replacing the transmission over and over again and it is quiting in the middle of the road or continues to do what mine does. i am afraid i am going to get hit i was almost hit about a week ago by a disel because it went to about 43 then jerked and went into second gear disel right on my tail furious because i had to slow down rpm went up to 4 afraid going to blow the motor up no shoulder due to construction was trying to get out of the way before he slammed into me it is scary when it jerks i am afraid at some point i wont be able to get out of the way or i will be in a bad area and have to shut it off and it will lock up like so many others have. so now i don't know what to do with the car. | |||

| My car's transmission became disengaged from the third or fourth gear and dropped down to second gear while i was on the freeway. the rpm gauge went up to 5000 rpms before i let off the gas realizing the car would not shift. with oncoming traffic behind me and my car preferring to be in 2nd gear, i was at risk of being rear-ended. researching the problem revealed that it was a transmission speed sensor that had failed and further investigation into online forums for problems with the make and model revealed that others had similar issues in the past with their vehicles. | |||

| The intrepid has had to serviced about every 3 months. first it was the engine light came on due to the 02 sensor going out. then it was the fan that belt broke on the car. then it was the tires the would wear the tread really easily. then it was the passenger door handle it broke on the inside. the it was the transmission that started skipping gears then it would make the rpm's go up. now the whole transmission has gone out. we have only had this car for two years and we have taken good care of it. *tr | |||

| I purchased a 2002 dodge intrepid 2.7 liter engine from honda cars of mckinney in may of 2005 for $7000 and felt very happy about my purchase until a about a year and half later, the engine begin leaking oil. i followed the normal maintenance schedule and had the oil changed every 3000 miles. i took my dodge to allen samuels of fort worth, texas and they fixed my oil leak problem for $893 but was never told about the 2.7 engine design problems which cause major oil sludge problems. after about 2 months, the engine light came on again. i took the vehicle back to the dealership and they ran another check and found that there was no oil leak (engine burns oil now) but there was a small transmission leak. i was unable to get any further with the dealership without paying more money? since then, i've been unable to get my car inspected and have received a number of citations for expired inspection. i was even told by a policeman that i could check with the air texas program for repair cost help. i sent in required documents and found out from christian brothers automotive that it would cost more the car is worth to fix. the state of texas has given me a $3000 voucher to replace this pos dodge. the problem now is that i'm unemployed and can't afford a car that qualifies for this benefit. i am in the process of sending a complaint to robert nardelli with chrysler but i saw this link and thought i would get the word out. the dealership and/or chrysler owe me the cost of the oil leak repair, cost to either replace engine/trans and the expenses to try and get it inspected. *tr | |||

| We have had so many problems with our dodge intrepid leading up to the failure of the engine. first, the engine starting stalling, we would have to restart the car and it wouldn't shift from one gear to another. then there was a leak in the coolant pipe so we had to replace that. my boyfriend then drove the car for few hours straight to go visit his family. he couldn't get the car started to come home. finally he got it started and started driving home. it died on the way home and hasn't been running since. we have been without a car because it costs so much to get it repaired and we can't sell it because we would hardly get anything for it. *tr | |||

| After a short 5-10 minute drive, the transmission kicks into a low gear and will not shift. i can travel about 40 mph with the tachometer reading around 4500 rpms. it sounds like the transmission is going to blow up. i had it checked by a transmission place and even though the check engine light has stayed on for the past 2 months, they cannot isolate the problem. the recommendations of the error code does not reveal the parts as problems. i can turn the car off and put it in park and the problems stops for another 5-10 minutes if i am lucky. it seems there are many complaints about this on this website and it sounds like it is time for someone to force dodge to fix their problems. i want the call to last long enough for it to be paid off and from reading others problems, i doubt that i will make it. one word needs to be said: recall. *nm | |||

| I have a 2002 dodge intrepid. in 2003 i had the torque converter replaced. now in 2006 i've had transmission problems again . i took it to daytona dodge and they said it was under warranty. then they told me i needed a new torque converter again. then they called me about 4 days later and said i needed a engine block too because the ear that lines up the transmission was broke. they also said i needed to call my car ins. because it was due to a impact. to make a long story short both chrysler and allstate have denied me twice i don't know what to do. i fell they messed up when i had the work done the first time by not lining it up right. the car has been there since jan. 26. i've had to rent cars for about 2000.00 (25.00 a day) till i couldn't afford it any more i bought a 600.00 car and the dodge is still there i hope you can help me. *jb | |||

| My wife's 2002 dodge intrepid, has operated well until a week ago. after about ten minutes of driving, the engine light comes on, the transmission drops harshly into second gear and stalls in the middle of the busy, busy street. a trip to our long trusted mechanic revealed a common known problem within the auto repair industry that the 2.7l chrysler automatic transmission usually needs replacement at about 50k on the 1998-2002 intrepid models. the vehicle has been regularly maintained and carefully operated since purchasing. the opening of the transmission by my mechanic revealed no metal filings within the system. a change of sensor, filter, and fluids were hopped to solve the problems with the warning by my mechanic to start saving up quickly for more transmission work soon from his experience with this model. two days later the problem recurred with the same problem. i contacted chrysler on november 10, 2005, spoke to davey, to make a case file claim report. i asked what will be done in my situation. davey transferred me to another person. forty minutes later, tony picked up the phone. i asked what chrysler will do as the car is about a year out of warranty. his response was 'nothing'. when i asked to have a contact number to speak with the chrysler zone manger, tony stated that there was 'priority information' and he would not give out that information. tony also stated that even if he did it would do no good as they would do nothing either. i completed my discouraging conversation with tony by asking why should my next automobile be a chrysler product? since my wife is a public school teacher and cannot wait indefinitely for chrysler's assistance, the two of us waited until the traffic was less and crept in first or second gear to a nearby recommended transmission shop for repair to paid out of our pocket. *nm | |||

| Hello i own a 2002 dodge intrepid, this vehicle has been giving me serious problems since it reached 60,000 miles. it all started with the oil light flickering on and off and the engine light would also do the same thing. then the water pump and thermostat went out. next the water outlet housing started leaking. now the transmission is acting up and the car makes big jerking motions when driving and the rpm rises up. my wife has been in the car with our children and the car would just stall, while driving. finally i had enough the safety of my family is number one priority. it seems dodge owners around this country are having similar problems at such low mileage. my neighbors, friends and family members are telling the same story. these vehicles need to be recalled, due to engine defects. i have spent hundreds of dollars already in repairs. every family deserves a vehicle that is safe for their family, friends, and neighbors. the dodge intrepid's need to be recalled, because they are very unsafe to drive. it shouldn't have to take a death to recall these vehicles. put an end to this engine failures and demand a recall. we need your help to solve this safety hazard, with these engines. i have parked the vehicle even though i still owe 4,900 dollars because i didn't want to trade the car in and put another family, in danger. my wife and i purchased another vehicle, has over 70,000 miles and runs really well. please recall the dodge intrepids, help keep are streets and highways safe, from defected engines. went out and the water outlet housing leaks. *jb | |||

| Have had 2002 dodge intrepid in the dealers shop in various occasions re: the transmission not going into gear or shifting hard at the wrong speeds. we have had issues with the gears since the day we bought it '2003. we are continuously told nothing is wrong that they cannot duplicate the action. last month it wouldn't go into gear or when it did it moved slowly then the engine shut off. we were told once again they couldn't find anything wrong with it. recently 8/8/05 it begin kicking and bucking while driving on 8/9/05 the service tech told us it is something totally different a cam sensor that they think is possibly bad or more internal issues with the engine. all through it they cannot duplicate what we have been complaining about. the check engine light is on now and the air bag light is on yet, they cannot seem to repair these. we have an extended warranty on the car yet, we feel the dealership is being dishonest with us. we also feel that we have been sold a lemon. we have record of each time the car was at the dealership and they have a journal of all visits in their database. we have kept the car well maintained and at 49k miles it should not be having these issues. *nm | |||

| When you first start the car it would not move when you put it in any gear, then when it did finally move you may start moving and then it was like the transmission was shifted into neutral. took the car in to the dealer, and had it checked, said it was a quart low on fluid, car was sent back home with me, a few days later did the same thing, took it back and the dealer where the transmission was replaced, new transmission would not shift out of low gear, had dealer tow it in, stated to me the the transmission controler needed reprogramming, it was reprogrammed and sent back out on the road, about 100 miles later it was a repeat, would not shift out of low gear, had the vehilce towed in again, dealer replaced transmission and controller, picked the car up from the dealer, i found a bracket that they had left loose that was within a fraction of coming in contact with the rack and pinion steering, returned to dealer to have bracket reattached. i have filed lemon law on this car. *ak | |||

| Car began with not accelerating. it would feel as though it was sticking. i would be driving and between it changing from 2nd to 3rd gear (40-50mph), it would jerk or feel like it was popping into the third gear. i bought the car at 19,000 miles, took it to the dealership at 30,000 miles and they said there were no fault codes, (warranty ended at 36,000 miles) transmission ok. now at 50,000 miles, my car has electrical and internal transmission problems. it will cost me anywhere from $1700-$2100. i have not had the car a full year. called the manufacturer, nothing they can do for me, called the dealership where car was purchased, nothing they can do for me.*ak | |||

| Transmission intermittently bump shifts or slams into gear. when driving at around 40-50mph and flooring it to accelerate then letting off the accelerator pedal there is sometimes a bang or bump, sometimes harsh felt in the front end or transmission. this is sometimes so hard that passengers feel it and complain in regard to it. bump is sometimes felt on deceleration in lower gears nearing a stop. sometimes feels like it's shifting rough in lower gears. gear selector feels stuck sometimes after parking and trying to shift into reverse. transmission sometimes makes whining noise, not sure if this is normal. transmission seems to hesitate sometimes before kicking down in low gear or upshifting. took vehicle into dealership, shop foreman says there are no updated transmission control module (tcm) revisions after checking. also states no fault codes were found from transmission. states that transmission issues could not be duplicated.*ak | |||

| The car has only 65, 000 miles on it and the transmission has failed while no longer under warranty. while driving the engine light came on the rpm's revved and the car would not go over 35 miles an hour. diagnostics equipment has said the modulators and electronic componenets for the transmission need to be replaced just short of rebuilding the transmission. the car has been serviced regularly and driven under normal conditions. i think this type of failure is unwarranted. i have been told by my mechanic that there is a trend in dodge 2.7 engines and transmissions.*ak | |||

| Consumer complained about automatic transmission gear position indicated (prndl) problem. while vehicle is parked, the consumer's child can move the gear shift without the key being in the ignition. the vehicle was in the drive way and the consumer's son inadvertently was able to push gear shift in to neutral, this resulted in a collision off of a rock retaining wall. the child was slightly shaken up inside the vehicle. the manufacturer and the dealer are aware of the problem. | |||

| Dt*: the contact stated while the vehicle was in park, without the keys in the ignition, the contact's unattended grandchild shifted the column shift and the vehicle rolled downhill and crashed into a tree. no injuries were sustained. the vehicle sustained moderate damage to the rear and left side panel area. a police report was taken. the dealer was alerted. | |||
