Vehicle failed state inspection third year in a row all for same reason and it gets worse. in feb 2011 which is first year i owned the vehicle and got the inspection myself, it failed for rear brake rotors and they were not able to be resurfaced. in feb 2012 the vehicle again failed for rear rotors and again they were to bad o be resurfaced. in feb 2013 i checked my brakes before going in cause i had heard noises and screaching from them for about a couple months leading up to inspection time. rear rotors were indeed bad again. the right rear rotor wore a 7 mm groove into it and the pad incidently had a mirroring groove where it had not worn. next both rear calipers i found were seized (i do know these are screw type calipers instead of compression calipers). 3 years in a row i have changed rear rotors and pads. front brakes are fine and have had normal wear. i have only changed front pads once and had the rotors resurfaced once. calipers are fine.

I purchased this car in august 2010 (it is a 2009) and since then, i have had the vehicle in the shop 33 times. i have had to replace all brakes and rotors, had front passenger-side window motor replaced, driver-side is going out now, had leaking from the ceiling, replacing the cracked radiator right now, had the emergency brake fixed, needed new rods and bushings, fuel injectors run loud, there is a drone noise from the right side of the vehicle when going 1800-2000 rpm, electrical systems short out, had the electric throttle indicator light come on, car dies all the time, yet the battery is fine, ...bottom line, this is a lemon. i have the r/t model which the dealership likes to claim is just the noisy one. that is a very poor answer towards a consumer. i take very good care of my vehicles and to put up with this is upsetting. i have spent over $3000 in repairs in the 2 1/2 years that i have owned this suv. chrysler has made no attempts to help with these common problems and i know that i will not support this company buy purchasing with them again. when i bought a journey...i didn't realize being able to drive it without problems, would be such a journey. *tr

Electrical system failure due to wiring harness melting, radiator cracked because bracket for ac is connected too tight when car is manufactured, battery died prematurely because of failed wires, rotors warped causing car to shake violently when braking. all these problems and others for a car with only 60,000 miles. have spent over $2000 to date in repairs that numerous people have had related to this vehicle. based on online complaints and talking to mechanics who have worked on this car no one can believe that the correct electrical recall has taken place. there have been electrical recalls on vehicle, but not for most common failure. no one understands why brake issue has not been recalled and no one understands why the radiators keep failing without a recall. will it take a serious crash? safety of the consumer is at risk. you pay $20,000 for a car and think it will last awhile. this car has major problems that are consistent from buyer to buyer.

When i bought my car in 2009. i noticed that my brakes squeaked when i stop i took it back to the dealership, i was told that nothing was wrong. keep complaining all the time, then the vibration started and i needed rotors and brakes. the aftermarket brakes doesn't fit had to replace them with the dealership brakes. had to replace a two tire sensors. had to have my rotors resurfaced will need new rotors. recently the engine coolant overheating light came on. the fan stop working its electrical the mechanic can't figure out why it stop. my car sometimes doesn't start, took it to a mechanic. no reason why. when my air is on it takes the car longer to gain speed on the highway. i contacted the dealership where i purchased it and dodge. both were rude and didn't offer any help. i purchased the extended warranty and it didn't cover anything. *tr

I brought car used feb 2012 with around 78500. shortly after i got the car i started noticing the vibration when i applied the brakes. so i took it and had the brake pads and rotors replaced on the front. well it still was vibrating when i would apply the brakes. so i was told that maybe the calipers was bad. so a couple weeks later they put on new pads, rotors and calipers. well the vibration stopped. well at least for about 3 months and the vibration when i apply my brakes came back. so i took it back and was told that they are going to put some dealer pads and rotors on and that should take care of the problem. so im waiting to get those put on and see if it will make a difference like they say. *tr

Brakes and rotors have been replaced on this car at least 3 times already. along with numerous other problems that journey owners have complained about including: steering sounds when turning, power windows hesitating to work, car not starting, battery replaced too soon. cosmetic problems such as visor mirror cover broken, seats staining, and seals around doors and tire wells fall off. this car has so many complaints online i don't know why we can't get something in return for all these problems. *tr

This journey has had premature wearing on the brakes and rotors. we have had the car 3 years now and have had brakes done at least 6 times and it only has 47,000. this is a huge safety concern. also in order to change your batter you have to take it to the dealership, so if you break down you have no choice but to have it towed and taken to the dealership which is hundreds of dollars. also my husband is handicap, and this poses a big problem for him or anyone else. this car was made poorly. we cannot afford brakes every 6 months and even after you get the brakes done it is constant problems. we try to use our other car we win driving with our kids for fear the brakes will go out or something. *tr

Purchased vehicle in 2010, test drove vehicle asked dealer to check the following components engine, brakes, transmission. dealer took car to a repair place stated everything was fine, went on with purchase. had a oil change not long after purchase facility mentioned front and rear brakes, rotors and calipers were bad..which i had noticed pedal to brakes were not engaging properly, severe safety issue. took to a second brake repair same problem.(s) on occasion engine stalls while driving, sometimes will not start at all. some electrical components do not work in the vehicle. then driving vehicle home from store transmission dies, car will not go over 20 miles, almost hit from behind by another vehicle due to sudden loss of speed luckily about two minutes from home. parked vehicle for a few hours car would not go in park or reverse. took vehicle to transmission repair, transmission tech examines transmission, transmission is defective and needs to be replaced. called manufacturer dodge/chrysler stated there was nothing that they were willing to do, same statement they have said to many consumers, without concern for buyers safety or inconvenience that their vehicles cause. please i need help this is the only vehicle that my family has, and i am concerned about all of our safety. *tr

This vehicle has been in the shop several times for the brakes malfunctioning and still no real solution dodge has a commercial for the journey stating that they are insurance institute for highway safety. top safety pick for 2011 if the brakes fail it does not get any more unsafe then that it is obviously a problem and the consumer has no one to turn to please do something before someone dies should not you be proactive instead of reactive at the very least investigate to see if there is a problem. thank you *tr

I purchased a 2009 dodge journey (vin: [xxx]) on september 19, 2011 from the stetler dodge car dealership in york, pa. it was a certified pre-owned car. since that day i bought the car i have been back there over 4 times for various problems. the first time was about 2 weeks after i purchased the car (10/3/11), but this last time was it for me. the car makes a hissing noise when i press the brakes, not all of the times but a lot. during the winter months, i hadn't noticed anything else occurring along with the noise, but i had still taken it back to the dealership not long after i bought the car. i was told that it was nothing because they couldn't hear the sound. so, when it got very hot, i turned the air conditioner on in the car. i noticed that if i take a long trip, about an hour or so drive on the highway, a fume/gas smell is released into the car when the air it on. i took it to the dealership on 7/10/12 for this issue. they couldn't get the smell to occur, but i told them that it happened after i took long trips. there is also a grinding/humming noise that occurs sometimes while driving and it happened twice when they were driving it with me in the car, but they don't know what the problem is they say. i was told to bring it back if the problem got worse, even though i had already told them it was already getting worse, that's why i took it in. the steering wheel shakes when i press the brakes. the brakes and rotors are not good. the gear shift moves easily without the brake being pressed so it will go into park while driving. the car finally stalled while driving on july 25, 2012. it's in the shop again. they say a box or case is leaking badly and needs to be replaced. countless other problems but not enough character space allotted to tell. i have 3 pages of problems. scared to drive this car. want my money back now. help! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl-the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that while braking at 55 mph, the steering wheel shook. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, where the brake pads and rotors were replaced. the failure occurred at least four times and each time the dealer had to replace the rotors and brake pads. also, the engine would take at least a couple of minutes before starting. the manufacturer was notified and stated that the contact should notified nhtsa. they offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 18,115 and the current mileage was 47,000. sm.

I had a complete break failure and ran off the road, lost control and spun backwards striking a buried boulder bending my exhaust pipe, this was at 19k miles. right front break pads blew apart, towed into dealership, didn't work on it due to out of warranty and they stated it would be approx 1000 to fix it, took it to midas, spent 400, replaced front rotors and pads, at 23k miles, brakes worn down to metal, took to midas, said dodge problem, dodge would not work on it stating it was midas' issue. got letter from dodge to fix brakes after 100 deductible, they replaced front rotors and pads, 2 days(two days later) brakes failed and ran through hwy interchange and almost got side swiped by a big rig. pucker factor +20, taken back to dodge and spent all day there and they stated they turned rotors again on the back rotors but when i went around to the service bays, the front rotors and back rotors were off and they were replacing the brake pads again. this needs to stop and the only way dodge will do anything about it is for someone to be killed, it's not going to be me......

Constant brake problems with 2009 dodge journey
11/05/201016343
My front brakes went out at 16,000 miles 6 months ago. i had to replace the break pads and rotors. now at 23,000 miles my rear breaks have gone out (no prior warning, just all of a sudden constant squealing when i drive) and i've been told i again have to pay for new brakes and rotors. all of the expenses have been out of my own pocket, but i just was told yesterday to send my receipt for the front brake job to chrysler for a refund but that the rear brakes are not covered. i sent the receipt in but have yet to be reimbursed.

I have an 09 dodge journey that has issues from day one. 1st the a/c broke. they fixed it that was only 2 weeks after i bought the car. the car was new and bought in 01/2009. at a little over 12000 miles my brakes were gone. i had to rotate rotars and put new brake pads. ever since then i have had to change the pads (2 times the rotars completely all other times rotating the rotars)5 more times. i have called crystler and all they have done is made the warrenty to 36000 miles but that is not fixing a problem. i have gotten online and researched. i am not the only one having this problem . there are thousands of others and there are actually lawsuits out there for this reason. i was in a fenderbender in dec. 2010 and i can not help but wonder if i would have had brakes there were 100% if it could have been avoided.with all the complants i am wondering how much it will take for a recall or something to be put into effect. i hope it does not take people getting killed for this to be corrected.

After 27,000 miles my 2009 dodge journey needs a set of new brakes for the front tires. i have had several suv's to far surpass this millage with no new brakes needed. after taking my journey to a local mechanic, i was told that 15 minutes before he had had an identicial 2009 dodge journey with the exact same problem. when i came home, i researched dodge journey brake problems online and was shocked at what a problem this was for journey owners. i think a recall should be demanded. my husband and i bought this car to buy american..... and this is what we get.

After only having 25,000 miles, my 2009 dodge journey needed to get all new brake pads and rotors. this came on suddenly as my car just began having a grinding sound every time i pressed the breaks. i have two small children and feel that this could have been a dangerous situation. after much research, i have found that there have been many reported incidents of the same occurrence with the 2009 dodge journey. after discussions with chrysler dodge, i suggested that this be looked into for a recall so that this unsafe situation not occur to another person, possibly ending much worse than my situation did. i am awaiting reimbursement for a portion of the amount paid toward the brakes, and as much as i would like to be fully reimbursed, i am more concerned with the safety of the vehicle and the safey of others.

Front brakes rotors and pads needed to be replaced at 12000 miles, rear brakes pads and rotors replaced at 20000 miles and front brakes needed to be replaced again at same time steering wheel vibrates horribly dealer said needed rear wheel alignment and 2 new tires at 20000 miles had it done brakes still squealing and grinding and dealer says can't find anything wrong steering wheel starting to vibrate again at 23000 miles dealer says nothing wrong can't hear squeaks in brakes unbelievable it is ear piercing and they grind intermitently i am sure soon to be grinding continuely and then they will tell me i need new brakes again have spent 1200.00 dollars out of pocket vehicle isn't even paid for yet i have lost faith in chrysler and don't know what to do can't afford these costly repairs on a car that is basically new i am afraid that one time the brakes will fail completely that is how fast they wear out

2009 dodge journey suv breaks and rotors premature wear, leaking roof, and more... breaks and rotors on the car had to be replaced twice on the front at less than 34,000 miles and once on the back at less than 39, 000 miles; this is a serious problem with this make & model and can cause some one there life. there are numerous complaints about this and they are not being accountable. chrysler-dodge needs to be held accountable for this and make the recall on the 2009 dodge journey and stop blaming this problem on the people who purchased it.

My first experience was the windshield wipers completely stopping while pouring down rain. i almost rear-ended someone. the wiper motor has been replaced numerous times. my car completely shuts off while i am driving or sometimes just putting my car in reverse. it is currently in the shop again. plus, my brakes are already gone and the car is only a year old.

I own a 2009 dodge journey and have had to replace the front brake pads and rotors twice and the rear pads and rotors once. the last replacement for the front brakes was on july 26th 2010 and i was informed today that they need replaced again, after only 11,000 miles. there are many other problems with this car like the paint peeling off, the tires waring badly and now they all 4 need replaced even though i have them balanced and rotated regularly. however, i feel the brake problem is not just my problem, but is also a safety issue for other drivers.

I own a 2009 dodge journey that i bought brand new. in 2 years i have gone through multiple brake pads and the car has almost no mileage.
05/03/201125000
All four brakes on my 2009 dodge journey have failed after only 25,000 miles. brake parts have broken and the front two brakes are considered under warranty but the back brakes are not under warranty. the dealership stated the car was unsafe to drive until the brakes were fixed. donavan dodge in sierra vista arizona has repaired the brakes but the dealership is not taking any responsibilty for failure of equipment for the back brakes. this type of failure placed me and any passengers in danger. i requested the broken parts for the brake equipment that was not under warranty. they have to send the ones under warranty back to the dodge corporation.
06/30/200914000
I purchased a 2009 dodge journey in august of 2008. i have had repeated problems with rotor and brake wear. the rotors have been replaced twice and all 4 brakes have been replaced twice with the front being replaced 3 times. tje first of which occured just past 12,000 miles. this is when brake and rotor wear warranty ends. i have also had signifigant problems with the wiring senser module, resulting in stability control and anti-lock brake light to come one. i also have power ports in the vehicle that do not work as well as a lift gate that does not lock. i currently have 48,000 miles on the vehicle and now have issues with leaking. i am unsure how water is entering the vehicle, possibly thru the air conditioning drainage system. the entire drivers side floor boards are wet as well as the built in cooler behind the drivers seat being completely filled with water within several days of emptying. this occurs when it is not raining or wet outside. i now have mold issues in the vehicle. myself and my children have signifigant allergies and asthma. this vehicle is unsafe to drive. the electrical problems resulting in air bag failure are definatly scary.

Purchase a dodge journey 2009. i inform the dealer that the windows were not coming down as they should. didn't get fixed. the keyless remote was suppose to be with the car it wasn't, they installed a after market keyless remote, don't work correct. the brakes were sweaking and could hear air within the car when applying brakes. i was told that theres nothing wrong and it was normal. it has been 4 to 5 months later now its not starting . contact chrsyler llc , told me i had to have it towed to a dealer , get diagnoise , get it fixed and i have to pay for it all and they will remiburse half for the part , labor is all on me. the vehicle has done this no start problem 3 times in 2 and half days. also notice that the steering column gets hot for some unforseen reason . inform the dealer i purchase my journey from , i was told that is normal. still have the journey can't trade in back because i have no money , so i am stuck with it . having it towed to dealer to get problem looked at and all expense is on me. what do i do . i think chrsyler will not repay me. i have to borrow money to get this done becasue this is my only transportation. i am scared that i might have a electrical fire while driving and will not notice it until it too late. what do i do. please help in richmond va.

We purchased a 2009 dodge journey, it has approximately 24,000 miles on it. we were recently told that it needed new brakes. there was squeeking and then grinding within a matter of days. we were also told that the rear brakes were also close to going bad. i have never owned a car that the brakes lasted so little a lenght of time!
03/20/200911930
I purchased my 2009 dodge journey in june 2009. the brakes started to make a grumbling noise when i stepped on the brake. i had only 11950 miles on the car. it was 3/2010. i took it to the dealer and they said it was the brakes and wanted me to pay for the repair. i tild them it was still under the 12k warranty, so they did it free of charge. i took it home and it was still doing the same thing. i took it back the next day and asked them to please have the technician drive the vehicle to determine what was wrong. i was 3 miles away from the 12k mile warranty expiring. this time they replaced the rotors. now it is 9/20/10, and the vehicle is at 21100k. it started to make the same grumbling noise and when i took it to the dealer, they had to replace all 4 rotors. three days later i had to take the vehicle back because when i go over 60 mph it starts to vibrate and feels like i have a flat tire. i took it to the dealer ad they rotated and balanced the tires. when i got on the interstate, it is still doing the same thing. i emailed chrysler 2 times and have spoken to them twice. i no longer trust this car. i am afraid everytime i get in the car to drive it, i am putting my life in jeopardy. i know i will have to continue replacing the rotors every few thousand miles

Brakes do not last. had to replace rear and front brakes and rotors at 40,000 miles, only 500 after we purchased vehicle. when braking at a high rate of speed the entire car shakes and steering column vibrates violently. we have not found a solution, the dealership says they cannot duplicate the problem the car will randomly not crank. it has left me stranded twice. after sitting for an hour it will crank with no problem. we have been told that is may be a problem with the internal security device that recognizes the key.

I was driving in january 2010 and crunching sound and shaking when brakes applied in my 2009 dodge journey, took it in they informed me i needed new brake pads at 25k miles. got new pads for $300 kept driving, now vehicle shakes hard to stop and crunching sound again when attempting to stop (stopping can be difficult) now june-- took vehicle in again and again they stated front pads are 11/32 (in 4 months?) and rear pads are 1/32 almost metal to metal. car's brakes appear to be way too small for vehicle size and it appears the pads wear very quickly (can find tons of same complaints in various review sites) dodge always blames the drivers for riding their brakes but there are thousands of us. they estimate brake pads last 14-16k miles!!!! but i can tell even the front one being below half are now effecting the vehicles stopping ability. this is a safety issue they need bigger brakes for the vehicle. i am concerned that one day it will just fail as the brake pads wear so quickly.

I am concerned about the safety of my vehicle. i have had to replace the brakes 3 times and am going to need to replace them again. i only have 26,000 miles on the vehicle. i know the sweep area is insufficient for the weight of my vehicle from what research i have done. i am worried that the brakes might fail with my kids in the car or on the freeway. i know i'm not the only owners to have this problem. it is a persistent problem among dodge journey owners.

New 2009 dodge journey purchased in april 2009. september 2010 i was informed that the front brake pads needed replacement and the front rotors needed resurfacing with only 17000 miles on the car! $250.00 now today 3/19/2012 i am informed that the rear brake pads need replacement and the rear rotors need resurfacing and the front rotors need to be turned! because chrysler issued a service bulletin stating the front rotors should not be turned, they should be replaced under the extended warranty (that we barely qualify for because our 3 years is almost up) it is recommended that we just replace the front brake pads again and replace the rotors. total cost for brake pad/rotor related service #2 $400.00 with only 28750 miles on the car! so with only 28750 miles on the car both front and rear break pads and rotors have been serviced, the front set twice now!

Had hard time bring car to a stop when to a dodge dealership to have them look at it.they said that it was so bad that i could not drive it until it was fixed ,it was not fixed until monday feb,28,2011 they charged me 50.00 dollars for the repair. then on march 19,2012 had to go back to same dodge dealership and have them replace the rear brakes & rotors the car only had 31000 mile on it. they charge me 100.00 dollars for repairs said the did not know why the brakes and rotors gave out ,but would only charge me 100.00 for the repairs. there is no way that the brakes & rotors should wear out this fast they need to recall all journey's with this safty problems and put the proper size brakes on .

Dodge journey serious brake problem, 2nd time in less than 32,000 pads and rotors are needing to be replaced. dodge has acknowlded a problem and then did sent out reimbursement option, my first repair was paid for. however, the problem has not been solved with the vehicle, the same repair is requried again. a search on the internt indicates this is a rampant problem, a recall from dodge has not been put in place, class action law suits exist. mechanic at midas indicates many dodge journeys at his facitlity with the same problem.

I purchased the car in january and had to put front brakes and rotors on it. in october the rear brakes and rotors had to be replaced. now it's november and the front brakes are going out again. i have checked the calipers for proper operation and they appear to be fine. the brakes just keep wearing out. i owned my last vehicle for much longer and never had to replace the brakes on it. the brakes on my journey were new when i bought it. i see no reason for a vehicle to need at least 3 sets of front brakes before it even hits 60,000 miles.

This car was purchased from a dealer used with 40,000 + miles on it. it had break issues right from the start. it seemed like the abs brakes did not work correctly and the car shook when the brakes were applied. after owning it for 14 months the front pads had to be replaced. the vehicle continued shaking and we were told the rotors were bad. we then replaced the front rotors and the back pads. the front brakes started making grinding noises within a couple of weeks. now just one month after replacing the rotors, the front pads must be replaced again.

Premature break failure. front and back brakes had to be replaced at 17179 miles.

Dodge gave me an extend warranty on this car to 36,000 miles. started having brake problems and had them fixed at a shop before the 36,000 mile warranty was up. then after fixing the brakes noticed a shake in the front end. took it back to the shop at 36,400 miles and they then told me about the problems with the journey. i called the dealer who completely blew it off. i have paid for the repair and was told to submit a claim to chrysler which i did and it was turned down. this is just not right!

In two years, five (5) times for brake prloblems. with 3,000 to 6,000 miles between each broke. two times engine support mount. two times with power train problems. today (10/06/2011) the journey 2009 r/t is in the service center of alberic colon chrysler/jeep in kennedy ave, san juan pr for the same problems and also : for the air conditioner system, suspension, motor cooling system problems, leaking grease in the back of the right front wheel. and guess!!!!!!, brakes again. both, chrysler and the dealer has refuse to obey the law that says, they have to provide a vehicle in cases that repair least more than 5 labor days including saturday.also, to adeed more problems, mr. lucas figueroa(pr chrysler service manager), has refused to authorize the brake repair. saying that is normal, that a brake system that was repair in 02/16/2011 needs to be repair again in 09/19/2011(22033 to 30200 m). i have being without transportation for three weeks, causing me an my family a lot of problems because, is our only vehicle for all the family matters including, that i am a cardiovascular patient. someone could tell me is these seems to look like a big jucy lemon question is, who could help us with this giant abusive corporations?

Around 14,000 miles the brake pedal would sink. dealer found bad master cylinder. during further inspection of brake system they also found front brake pads worn. at 24,000 the rear pads and rotors are no good. you can feel car shimmy when slowing down on freeway. pre-mature failer on pads and rotors. car is mostly freeway miles with no hard braking.

Purchased vehicle new in june of 2009. front brakes gone and eating into rotors by 26,000 miles. little over a year. 90% of driving is freeway driving. very little stop and go. replaced brakes and had rotors turned. rotors warped and fromt and rear brakes gone again at 35,245 miles one year later. replaced front rotors and all 4 sets of brakes. front struts have gone out now as well. definately too much weight for vehicle brakes and suspension. if not watched complete failure expected before recommended maintenace changes!!
11/06/200925120
The brakes for this vehicle repeatedly continue to fail. since the first repair (11/6/2009) we have had to have had 10 repairs to the brakes in less than 2 years! our mechanic says that there is obviously a design flaw. the last repair (on 9/9/2011) the mechanic said it appeared that the rear brakes were not being used and all braking is being accomplished using the front brakes. i don't believe that is how the braking system is supposed to work. i believe most of the braking should fall on the rear brakes. the front brakes are overheating and causing the rotor to warp and the brake pads to fail (literally fall apart). dodge obviously realizes there is a problem as they sent a letter offering an extended warranty dated 6/1/2011 for vehicles that have had early braking system failure. since 6/1/2011 we have had 5 repairs to the front rotors and/or pads! dodge did compensate us for much of our expense. i appreciate the compensation but that is not resolving the problem! the problem is that there is a constant failure in the braking system. i would like dodge to address the problem and either repair the design flaw or replace the vehicle! my fear is that the car will not stop while i am driving in houston, texas traffic and someone in my car or someone else's car will be seriously injured or killed as a result. it appears that dodge will wait until there is a death or injury to take responsibility for the poor or inadequate design of the braking system in this vehicle. unfortunately, i am not in a position to buy another car or i would get rid of this vehicle and never purchase a dodge vehicle again!

The braking system on the 2009 dodge journey is, in the opinion of a specialized mechanic consulted as a result of the failure of the brakes, defective. the front brakes had to be replaced at 9,000 miles and the back brakes are at this point worn down, with the car having less than 20,000 miles on it. having called dodge, i was advised that it was a problem with the type of brake pads, not the actual braking system, and that dodge is paying for replacement brake pads. however, the opinion received from a specialized dodge mechanic and state vehicle inspector does not support this view. my overtures to chrysler have been utterly pointless with the company stating that the temporary solution proffered will resolve the problem. i am not convinced. the nhtsa must immediately commence an investigation into the nature and breadth of this problem and instruct chrysler to issue and immediate recall on the 2009/2010 dodge journey on the grounds of safety and consumer protection. chrysler is refusing to acknowledge the extent of the problem and seems to believe that it is acceptable to placate customers with a temporary solution to what it seems to me is a permanent and recurring problem, hence the urgent need for intervention from the nhtsa.

2009 dodge journey, bought brand new, on 4th replacement of front and rear brake pads and rotors. car needs brakes and rotors between 3rd and 4th repair at 5,000 miles! metal to metal sound, feels like tie rod is breaking and steering wheel shakes very badly. vehicle is a lemon and chrysler will do nothing to help. due to the number of complaints on brakes a recall or repair should be being addressed by chrysler not carried by the consumers pocket and health. if i have an accident in this car, all of the complaints on this site will be referenced for my subsequent lawsuit. last dodge of 4 previous vehicles that i will purchase!

2009 dodge journey sxt. in the year i have owned it, i have replaced brakes twice, as rite now i am replacing them cause they started squeaking a week ago and today they locked up. also replacing one of the calipers. any time i take a hard left turn, there is a loud grinding noise. i have replaced the tires already, and have had to replace the rear 2 again recently. any time i go to brake when going over 40 mph, the steering wheel shakes uncontrollably. i have also recieved a recall from a local dealership for a wiring harness in drivers side. when i went in to dealership, they put it on order and said they would call when it came in, but never did. that was 6 months ago.

Received a letter from dodge a few weeks back which referenced possible brake problems on the 2009 dodge journey we purchased new in 2009. our daughter is a college student and has only put on 22,000 miles over the past two years. an appt has been made with a local dealership, but when i drove it for the first time today, i could not believe the metal-on-metal sound that emitted from the front brakes. the brake pedal had to be pushed down with force to achieve a total stop. we have never had a vehicle that required any type brake repairs after such a short period of time and i totally resent the fact that there is anywhere from a $50 to $100 deductible for something that should be covered by dodge. these brakes sound like there is absolutely nothing left. the sound even remained for a while even after i took my foot off the brake pedal. why must the consumer pay for shoddy, poor quality parts?

Front rotors and front and rear brakes all had to be changed at 21,000 miles and again at 31,000 miles. now rotors require turning again due to pulsation.

This vehicle model has an obvious premature brake wear/failure problem. i replaced the front pads a year ago, very early in the life of the vehicle as compared to normal brake wear. i have now also had to replace the rear pads and have the rear rotors cut. i have been told that the front pads and rotors also have to be replaced due to excessive wear. the rotors are too thin and must be replaced. i drive mostly highway miles. i do not ride my brakes. i am a very conservative driver. yet, i have had to spend about $700 for brakes within a year. and, all of that before a normal brake issue should occur on a vehicle. i have read many other complaints about this issue on the internet. and, there are already at least 2 class action lawsuits filed related to it - in ca and nj. please investigate and force chrysler to fix the braking system on these vehicles.

Rotors turned and pads replaced at 19,200 miles. rotors started warping after first trip of over 200 miles. rotors replaced at 26,000 miles. started shaking after first long trip and then consistently after 2000 miles. rotors replaced at 52,000 (using best quality wagner rotors) same results. shaking, during braking, at highway speeds. this is a known issue at chrysler. i called chrysler customer service and was told that because i didn't use chrysler parts, and wasn't the first owner of the vehicle, there would be no assistance. this is a critical safety issue. when the brakes are applied, at highway speeds, the steering wheel shakes uncontrollably. my wife had to hit the brakes on a two lane exit, due to a car swerving into our lane and the combination of turning, with the steering wheel convulsing erratically, caused us to run off the road and almost have a very serious accident. but is it an accident when the manufacturer knows that the calipers are inadequate to safely stop the vehicle. through research, i have found that the sweep area of the journey front calipers is one fifth the sweep area of other cars of this class/ weight. please investigate. this is a definite safety concern

2009 dodge journey brakes and rotors are failing way before normal cars should. based on my experence it was 25000 miles with no warning, i.e. normal sound of brake pads wearing down. i had to pay to get all the rotors and brakes replaced out of pocket with no help from the dealer. i looked online and their are too many complaints of the same type for this to be a fluke. i believe someone could get in a major accident causing a death if this problem is not fixed and it seems dodge does not want to admit there is a problem yet.

I purchased a 2009 dodge journey in july 2008. when i took the vehicle in for an oil change at 8000 miles, i was told the brakes pads would need to be changed soo. by 12,000 miles the brake pads were completely worn and had to be replaced. by 46000 miles the fron brake pads had been replaced 4 times and the rotors were serviced as well as the rear brakes being replaced twice and the rear rotors were replaced once. the warranty did not cover any of these repairs. on april 29 at approx 10:30 the brakes gave out completely. they did not engage at all which resulted in rear ending a charter bus on a busy street. there weren't even skid marks indicating that the brakes had been engaged at all. to top it off, when we tried to move the vehicle off the road, the brakes wouldn't even engage enough to allow the gear to be shifted out of park.

2009 dodge journey front brakes (pads and rotors) completely worn out and needed replacing at 26000 miles. hundreds if not thousands of complaints exist on the internet of similar owner reports. brake issues pose an extreme safety concern with this vehicle. chrysler is aware that there exists a problem with these brake systems as they have extend the brake warranty from 2 years 24000 miles to 3 years 36000 miles with a $100 deductible. after the warranty is up all owners will be faced with the full financial burden of brake replacement but of more concern and importance would be the danger of brake failures while driving causing injuries or death. chrysler has an obligation to provide a long term solution to this problem prior to any injuries or death instead of just extending the warranty.

Premature brake wear due to inadequate brake system to the weight of car. 12k miles brake calibers locked up; 14,500 miles replaced from brake pads and rotors so bad had to be replaced; 26k miles again front rotors had to be turned. now 3 months later 28k miles i need front and back brake pads and all 4 rotors turned. can't handle the car on road for excessive grabbing of brakes and steering unable to hold onto when brakes applied. dodge has had many complaints and law suits filed in nj. they just recently extended the brake warranty to 36k without no notification however, since i had already been told unwarranted and had to get brakes repaired on a weekend stranded and didn't use mopar parts they will not warranty and now telling me that the rotors are warped due to excessive heat. yes excessive heat because their is a law suit due to inadequate brakes for the weight of the vehicle. please help dodge journey owners and anyone on the road near them. unsafe conditions, it is the new toyota. how many people need to die before corp. are held accountable they know. the service mgr even acknowledge but states he didn't design it, didn't build it or broke it

Heard rear brakes squealing and took journey to mechanic. mechaniis said the brakes were more worn on the inner pads than the outer pads. mechanic said brake pads are suppose to wear evenly and this was a brake failure problem. he also stated the calipers need to be replaced and that was also unheard of with a vehicle that only has 40000 miles on it. he recommended taking the vehicle back to the dealer to have them fix since this was a brake failure problem and not just normal wear and tear.

I purchased my 2009 dodge journey new, in 2009. the vehicle now has 18,329 miles -- it's basically still brand new -- its still under warranty!!!!. unfortunately, i have just had to replace all four (4) brake pads, and had all four(4) rotors resurfaced. this cost over $500 -- and the warranty does not cover this! it is my understanding that this is a known issue that the manufacturer is fully aware of. still, there has been no recall issued, and no warning has been given to the owners (that there's a potential of an under-designed braking system on these vehicles. apparently (my understanding -- you probably know better), dodge knows that the brakes on this vehicle are too small (?). if that is the case, then there is a problem that could lead to an accident. i have had other cars in my life, and have never had both front & rear brake pads and rotors completely wear-out in less than 20k miles. even if the manufacturer installed pads that were too soft, or to thin, there should be a warning given to the consumer -- if for no other reason that that the consumer not install the same pads as a repair. moreover, after-market dealers, like midas, should be alerted -- because they continue to follow the manufacturer's recommendations for replacement pads. it is ridiculous to think that a company the size of dodge would put at risk, the safety of the very consumers that keep their company solvent -- if they're willing to sacrifice our lives (and the lives of our families) simply to save face, then who will be left to purchase their future products? from reports i've read, other people have literally spent thousands attempting to fix their journeys. while i haven't spent as much as others, i should not have had to spend this type of money on a vehicle that's still under warranty.

Our dodge journey began having braking issues. a trip to the dealer revealed that at only 30,000 miles, the front brakes were basically non-functional. we needed to replace pads and rotors, which were far beyond machining, on the front and pads on the rear as well as having the rear rotors turned. this is unacceptable for a vehicle driven under normal circumstances with only 30, 000 miles.

Since purchasing my new dodge journey i have repeatedly been going back to the dealer's with the same issue. my vehicle keeps on vibrarting and pulsating when braking. it is occuring between 3 to 4,000+miles and everytime i take it in it's just spin/cut rotors and replace pads. i even wrote an angry letter to chrysler and they made arrangements for a cust service rep to meet with the dealers to resolve issue. which does help, but for only a short period of time they are not looking into the reason the brakes and rotors are being used up so quickly. replacing the parts is great but for how long is chrysler going to ignore the overall problem. there is a problem with the braking system of this vehicle. i have numerous job records to show how many time's i've been to the dealers and all that is happening is more of the same cut rotors replace pads. only on my last visit was i made aware of a warrant extension for the same problem only now i have to pay a deductable. i called chrysler customer service and they made me aware of the fact that they extended the warrant based on complaints, but issued no recalls because the brakes are still deemed safe. i have been to the dealer's at least 6 or seven times for this issue and i have a hard time believing that all that's being done is an extension of warranty. what's going to happen after the three years. i have lost my personal time sitting in a dealership's and now it looks like my wallet will be taking a hit from deductibles evertime this issue arises. this is so aggravating.

I have had the dodge journey for less than 2 years and it only had 28000 miles took it in for a noise coming from front of car. the dealer told me it needed front brakes and rotors and it was not covered by warranty. i took it to a local mechanic and he did the front brakes and rotors and said the back brakes and rotors needed to be replaced also and that he has never seen the back brakes with only 28000 miles that needed to be replaced. $700.00 on a car that isn't even 2 years old and still under warranty????? not very happy with the car or chrysler the company. they need to put out a better product.

Passenger rear tire kept losing air. the goodyear service garage broke the tire down and cleaned up seal area and i noticed it still leaked air a week later. the sensor came back on.. i put air in tire and it lasted another week took it back to service garage. they discovered the stem with the sensor had a crack in it. if it wasn't under warrenty it would cost $40-$60 to replace. that's a lot of money for a valve stem. this sensor is a waste of money. look at your tires save money. while the service center fixed that they saw my front brake pads worn down to almost nothing and the rotors almost completly shot. having only 16,500 miles on my journey i feel a sensor would have helped for this $360 repair job. i get a new but barley legal rotor you sell for new. can;t even turn them down any more. having to replace them with only 16,500 miles it a bunch of --ap!! where's my warrenty on this. just send me my $360 and we'll call it even. the say driving a safe automobile is top priority. let's fix these rotors.

At 19,100 miles i took the 2009 dodge journey to a missouri required safety inspection station. the inspector called me and reported that the front disc brakes where near failure. in particular the rotor on the front drivers side is worn very thin. the estimated repairs are approx $800. the mechanic's optinion is that the rotors were defective or insufficient, and that the uneven wear could be caused by defective calipers.

Brake rotor and pad wear failure at 15k miles. brakes had to be replaced front and rear as the rotors had warped on a 2009 dodge journey with 15k miles of mostly highway driving ($1100). fault was noticed due to vibrations during braking. dodge refused to accept any liability for this issue and blamed poor braking. when replacing the rotors with new dealer supplied parts they are visibly thicker than the originals and i was advised by the dealership that these were more suited to the vehicle. should this not be the case when manufactured? check additional site for similar cases - http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/journey/2009/brakes/premature_brake_and_rotor_wear.shtml. there are 104 reported cases on this site alone.

I have a 2009 dodge journey stx i recently had to replace the brakes on my car- they were not stopping and made a terrible rubbing noise. my major concerns are these: since i purchased the car- new if you stop suddenly the whole car bucks forward and skids. the other concern is the very early wear of the brakes.. upon further research i found that many other dodge journey consumers have had early brake wear. i have never replaced brakes in any other vehicle before 40,000 miles. i drive mostly highway short distances it is very scary not knowing when the brakes are going to wear. it is not a covered warranty item. it is very costly and time consuming. there are class action suits on the this same issue in 2 separate states.

At 2000 miles on my 2009 dodge journey i started having problems with my front passanger window sticking, and brakes squeeking. also car not shifting when taking off and when you slow down and try to speed back up. i took it in. they told me maybe sap in window and brakes fine. three days later window acting up again. took it in. same reason. cleaned and greased. this is the eight time ive taken it in. they have replaced motors, switches, tracks, seals and now wont roll up or down . the brakes have been an issue since the start. at 21000 miles the dealer tells me i need new pad and rotors. take it to brake shop and they tell me all i need is pad. brakes working fine right now but still squeek every now and then. they have replaced electrical harnesses that may catch on fire. the squeeking noice now has turned into other parts that are having to be replaced. my computer chip has been reset 4 times and cheep plastic mirrors on visers and sunglass holder and light on inside roof. the springs on my back doors have popped out leaving the door stuck open. went to to eat with 23000 miles on the car and after leaving the car would not start. called dealer and they called a tow truck and wanted me to pay for that also. my car has been in two different dealerships on 10-15 different occasions for repairs. they still have not got these issues fixed. what can i do?

Purchased a 2009 dodge journey sxt in 02/09; took car in to dealership 11/30/10 for routine oil change/maintenance and was told the front brakes were shot even though the car has less than 21,000 miles on it and vehicle has had stringent maintenance. was told by the service dept that journeys are just hard on brakes. then contacted several local brake shops and was told this was way too early for brakes to be failing. no warning light on dash; only indication brakes were bad was a little grabbing or mushy feeling upon braking, occasional slight sqealing noises but this was infrequent. upon checking the internet i found hundreds of complaints from other dodge journey owners of premature wear on brakes. contacted dodge corporate office; spoke with service rep and explained the problem. she agreed front brakes should not be wearing out this early; she contacted the local dealership where i bought the car (which i had already done). she called me back and said they had worked out that i needed to take the car in and replace the front brake parts and upgrade to heavier duty parts. kicker is that i was supposed to pay for everything; i pointed out that the factory parts originally issued on the car were obviously not heavy duty for a 3800 pound car and that the brakes were a design defect. she stated that it was considered to be normal wear and that dodge would not replace parts; dealership stated the same. asked if it would take someone dying in a crash from brake failure to get dodge to recall vehicles and no answer was given. took car in to local brake shop and mechanic said front brakes were totally gone and were cutting into the rotor. this is a hazard issue. i take the car in every 3000 miles for maintenance and had never previously been told brakes were going bad---- which they shouldn't be at barely 20,000 miles! these cars should be recalled due to defective parts and have the company to replace brakes.

At 31,000 miles my 2009 dodge journey began shaking when brakes applied. had to replace both front and back brakes and rotors at a cost of $450. currently a shake exist in the chassi of the vehicle when i reach speads of 50 mph or greater. tires where balance 3 times and final diagnosis by dealership is that i have one egg shapped kumho tire that kumho will not take responsibility for and would cost me $267.00 to change as there is only one manufacture of this tire.

Tl-the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey rt. the front brake pads and the rotors are worn and had to be replaced at least four times. when the brake is being depressed the vehicle shakes badly. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that was normal wear and tear on the brakes. each time the vehicle was taken in for repairs she had to pay the cost due to no warranty or recalls on the brake. the manufacturer was contacted and informed her she would be responsible for parts and they would pay for the labor. no other assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 27,000....mw

At 11k miles i had to have front brakes replaced. shortly after that my back brakes had to be replaced and my back rotors were warped. the dealer told me i had exceeded the 12k manufacturer warranty and had to pay for repair. after researching consumer reviews and having read of numerous complaints on brakes / rotors i sent a letter to chrysler along with complaints. i did not receive any letter, not a phone call, just a check for repayment of brake work. since then i have had my censor light come on twice for the tires and up until now, after reading from this website was i unaware this vehicle appears to have problems with tires as well. my vehicle is currently in the shop. i had taken in twice for a noise that was coming from the front passenger side. the first time i was told they could not find anyting. the 2nd i was told it was a computer chip that needed adjusting and it would be fine. it wasn't fine. the noise got worse. my power locks on driver door and my remote key would not work. i took my vehicle in for both the noise and the power locks/key not working. i have been without a vehicle since monday (it is friday) and it is due to having to replace a wiring system and alternator. an alternator? my vehicle has 25k miles!! please help.....there are almost 200 complaints for all the same problems i am having. this is not right.

I have a 2009 dodge journey. the brakes started to make a grumbling noise when i stepped on the brake. i had only 14000 miles on the car. i took it to the dealer and they said it was the brakes and wanted me to pay for the repair. i took it to my mechanic because i didn't want the same dodge brakes onit. we used bendix brake pads. i was ok until i hit approximately 21 k miles. the dealer then told me i need new rotors. i then took it to my mechanic and replaced the rotors with the holed aftermarket rotors because they stay cool and will not heat up. within 300 miles after i relplaced the rotors and shoes, the car started the same symptoms again. shaking when the brakes are applied. dodge should come out and recall the brakes on this crossover. my dealer told me that they use car brakes on this truck and they should have equipped it with truck brakes because it is too heavy. i bought this car with the expectation everyone has from a new car and i am very upset with dodge. they never covered any of the brake system under warrantee and i am pouing all this money on this car that i do not trust. dodge should be sued for this car !!!!!

We have had the brakes repaired three times on our 2009 dodge journey. the calipers never seem to disengage after braking causing constant wear on the brakes. we have discussed this with the dealership and have been told that it is not their responsibility. the first repair had to be done shortly after the vehicle was out of warranty. the brake check location that we are using states that the issue is due to poor design and possibly an issue with the parts. i see numerous complaints on blogs regarding early brake repair needed on dodge journeys.

I own a 2009 dodge journey . i took the vehicle in for a oil change service when they told me that all brakes and rotors need to be replaced. the brakes and rotors are prematurely worn out. this should not happen at such a low mileage. there have been no repairs at this moment. the failure mileage was around 21,300. also, the front end makes loud noises when i back up and/or turning to the right.

Vehicle has poor brake performance. front and rear brake pads worn out at 21,000 miles. dealer replaced pads and turned rotors. brakes have delay before slowing the vehicle (pre and psot repair) and the vehicle requires a large distance to stop (greater than our previous suvs including chrysler pacific, dodge durango, jeep grand cherokee, and jeep liberty).

Tl-the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that the braking system failed; the rotors and brake pads were worn. he noticed a slight shimmy when braking. the vehicle was taken to a repair shop for an oil change and noticed the premature wear. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership at the time of the complaint. the manufacturer had not been notified. the current and failure mileages were approximately 14,000-bk

I had no signs of problems with the brakes on my 2009 dodge journey. during routine maintenance (oil change, tire rotation), the dealer informed me that my calipers were sticky and that i should soon have the brakes done. then i started to hear a squealing noise a week or so ago. two nights ago i stopped at the mailbox and got out to get the mail and my rear brakes were glowing red, sparking and spitting. i took it to the dealer the very next day to get the brakes changed. turns out i need a complete overhaul of the entire brake system. new pads, rotors, calipers in the rear, and only 10% remaining in the front, for which i imminently need pads and rotors. dodge has got issues with their brakes that make them very unsafe -- and i have no choice but to replace the old shoddy parts with the same quality product. the same thing is going to happen again and again. i have never had to replace complete braking systems in the first year, in all my 30 plus years of owning a vehicle.

Brand new car with brakes that are not substantial enough to carry the vehicles load so brakes prematurely wear as well as ruining the rotars have less than 23,000 miles on the car and also other owners have made same complaint on the same model and year manufacturer will fix if you have less than 12,000 miles but will not uprgrade braking system to correct the issue nor will they even split cost the cost of brakes if you are over 12000 miles on vehicle this is a one year old 2009 dodge journey bought with 17 miles on it can substantiate my claim with other complaints on the dodge forum complaints website

2009 dodge journey brake problems. pads and rotors replaced on front @ 20k miles, rear pads replaced @35k miles. dealer claims 'normal wear and tear'. finally involved in an accident. car did not brake appropriately and rear-ended another car. safety concerns now over the engineering and design, perhaps the brakes are undersized for this car.

I drive the dodge journey for 13 months from new. the car has now 32500 miles on it. i had to replace brakes - pads and rotors three times. recently i found out that the rear tires are also worn - the lower part of the inside wall on both tires is worn not evenly? the local dealer, supported by dodge officials, claims this is normal wear and tear for this car, shirking the manufacturer's responsibility.

2009 dodge journey sxt 6 cyl. 3.5 l engine. 2wd. front brakes started to squeel and gouge the rotor on the front left (driver side) after only 20k miles. replaced pads and could not afford to turn rotor also. 58 complaints on autobeef.com and carcomplaints.com about the same problem, same vehicle, same year, same results from dodge and dealers. 'it's normal and over 12k or 12 months not covered under warranty. all complaints about this to chrysler/dodge and nhtsa have happened between 7k miles and 24k miles... no recall or acknowledgment of this problem by dodge. they refuse to recall and state that they have not heard of this problem from anyone else. read the complaints on autobeef and see how many people have called dodge about this. in most cases, the pads were replaced and new rotors were replaced at owner's expense. in alot of cases, the dealers told the owners that if they turned the rotors, they would be too thin and had to get new rotors. keep in mind that these are cars under 25k miles. the caliper has not been addressed as part of the problem but the pads and rotors have to be replaced again after only another 10k miles. i think it may be the calipers. dodge needs to recall based on this problem. as a result of the premature brake wear the front tires have wear on the outside treads. it is the brakes and tires!!! safety issue!!!!!

I have a 2009 dodge journey and the front breaks failed after 29,686 miles. the dealer claims it is normal, this is not true. i am very conscious about braking, i keep my distance and do not make hard brakes unless needed. based on posted reports, many are having the same problem. i have never owned an automobile with a brake failure with less than 70,000 miles on it, never. brake failure is a safety concern of mine, it could harm the people in the car as well as some one else. dodge is not taking any responsibility for this design or material defect, what ever the case is, but they don't have any problem taking your money to keep repairing the problem. i am sure dodge will do nothing until a couple of people are killed due to brake problems with this type vehicle.

Front brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced at 12k miles on our 2009 dodge journey. now we just had all brake lights go out. we took it to our mechanic and they found only 1 bulb bad. after the 1 bulb was replaced, all lights started working again. why would they put these bulbs in series rather than parallel so that only the bad bulb would be out rather than all? that is a big asafety problem in my opinion. also one tire now has a bulge in the sidewall and needs replaced. the vehicle has about 15k miles.

At 21,500 miles i was informed that my 2009 dodge journey r/t v6 needed new pads and rotors. i was further informed that this is normal. upon researching the issue, i have learned that this appears to be common and likely a design flaw that may put myself and others at risk on the road.

I owned a dodge journey 2009 and all of the sudden my breaks started to grind. it felt like i had no break power and sounded like it was metal to metal. i took it immediately to our authorized chrysler dealer and i was told i needed to replace front rotors and brake pads. i had purchased with this vehicle an extended warranty but was told rotors and pads were not covered even in case of premature wear : my car has only 22000 miles. what is frustrating is that the breaks never squealed . how could i anticipated this ? the dealership is asking over $400 dollars to have the car repaired and based on what i am reading in this database, my break problems might happen again very soon.

Tl-the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while driving approximately between 50-55 mph on a mountain road, the brake pedal was applied and the vehicle began to vibrate severely with a squealing noise. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the front brake pads and rotors were replaced. the identical failures occurred on a separate occasion which involved the rear brake pads and rotors. the contact expressed concern of the premature brake wear at such low mileage. the vehicle was being taken to an authorized dealer for repair. the failure mileage was approximately 28,000. js

This is a follow up e-mail to phone call. my comp# is 274123. my last name is spelled wrong and there are a few discrepancies. also wanted to give an update. i own an 09 dodge journey in which i had to replace the front brake pads at 12,800 miles, just after warranty, relaced by midas in dec.09. at 19,8oo i felt my steering wheel shake when i applied the brakes. upon inspection i realized my rear brakes pads and rotors were shot. being suspicious of this premature brake issues i googled 09 dodge journey brake problems and found hundreds of the same exact complaint! premature brake failure. hundreds of people who needed their pads and rotors replaced from 5k-22k sometimes even more than once! at the average expense of $360.00. i also noted that there are numerous of the same complaints from chrysler town & country and dodge caravan owners. when i contacted the dealer i was told by their service clerk that the ceramic pads originally installed at the manufacturer are wearing prematurely and that they are being replaced by a totally different pad with extended life. in most cases they are being replace in good will(free of charge). a service tech also confirmed this but told me he could not promise that this service would be free until further inspection. when we dropped the car off at the dealer our main complaint was the rear brakes and rotors. we asked (in writing )that they be replaced in good will and that they also inspect the front brakes an rotors because they were replaced at 12,800 with the same ceramic pads that are causing all the problems. the dealer called and said they would replace the front pads and cut the rotors free of charge but would not replace the rear pads and rotors. the tech said they were already doing enough good willrepairs on the car and that if we wanted the rear brakes repaired it would cost us $370. i called chrysler directly and got the same response. it's amazing! the front pads need to be replaced again after only 7k

Tl- the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that the brakes started grinding after 12800 miles. a midas mechanic stated that this should not happen on a vehicle with so few miles. a service technician for dodge stated that this was a problem with the ceramic pads the manufacturer used and it caused the pads to cut into the rotors and that the vehicle would need to be inspected. after inspecting the vehicle the dealer stated that they would replace the front brake pads and shave the rotors, but would not replace the rear rotors because they were to thin and cost to must to replace under a goodwill repair. the vehicle is currently at the dealership. the system did not accept the vin at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was 12800 and the current mileage 19800.rl

I bought a brand new dodge journey in april 2009, this is june 2010 and i have 17,459 miles on it. brakes started squealing when i back out of my garage and sometimes when i'm pulling up to stop sign or red light. had them checked with my regular oll change and was informed today that i had less than 10% left on my front brakes!!!!!!! i live on a barrier island for gosh sakes, i'd have to ride the brakes 24/7 to wear them out that fast! called dodge corp. and they say its not covered under the warranty after 12,000. miles, ha!!!!! i traded in a new chev impala with greater than 60,000 miles and still had 40 % left on the brakes and i was the driver......this is definitely a default in materials and has to be addressed before someone gets killed. i wasn't even going to ask them to look at it as i would never suspect a new car needing brakes. i make a new car payment so i won't have repair bills, this is not right. from what i have researched this is an ongoing problem with dodge and has not been addressed.

We bought that car a year ago brand new, earlier this week we heard grinding which we thought was abnormal and took to dealership and they said the brakes are so bad they could go out at any minute. we dont have the money to fix it and it is not covered so it is not safe to even drive the car. this is way too early and from what i found online, everyone is having this issue. we need a recall.

Tl- the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. as she was pulling up to a stopped sign she applied her foot to the brake, it didn't stop, she felt a shimming in the steering wheel and you had to keep pumping the brakes to get the vehicle to stop. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. she was told the rotors needed to be turned. she didn't have the repair work done there, she then took the vehicle to midas, they showed her the rotors and they were nothing left of the front brakes.the brakes were replaced at midas. chrysler manufactures were called and they will reimbursed her the cost of $184.89 because the vehicle parts are still under warranty. she was told by chrysler to call us to file a safety report. the failure and current mileage was 16,000....dwh

I purchased my 2009 dodge journey in may 2008 -- at 17000 miles and 2 years later i have been told that my front brakes are totally worn and rotors can not be turned and need to be replaced. i recieved no warning of the braking failure other than one day grinding and screaking noises while i drive. i took my car to the shop that day !!! how can a braking system go bad in one day with no warning? i've been told by chrysler that this is normal wear and it was not covered ... how can a braking system fail in 2 years !!! when i mentioned the numerous posts from consumers about the same problem. they offered no other explantion other than they must be using soft pads ... but we still do not cover this under the warranty.
05/23/201013500
The brake system is horribly undersized for the vehicle. pads and rotors have to be replaced at every 13,000 to 15,000 miles? car has only 30,000 miles and i am having to replace the entire brake system again! also the car now has problems starting with the fob key. sometimes it will start, sometimes it won't. really dissapointed with the vehicle and really do not feel safe in it. i am currently trying to trade it in or sell it due to the poor reliability.

At 15,200 miles, my 2009 dodge journey began to make a grinding/crunching noise when brakes were applied, making driving the vehicle dangerous(did not know if the brakes would fail!). service department told me that the rotors, brake pads and calipers needed to be replaced. only the calipers were covered under the warranty. when questioned on how the brakes could go so quickly, staff told me that the vehicles come out of the factory with softer pads and the traction control wears them out quickly. just a nice way to describe inferior equipment. i do not have the parts that were replaced, was told they had gotten rid of them prior to my picking up the vehicle after repair.

Bought 2009 dodge journey in june 2008. beginning in late april 2010 at appx 26,000 miles brakes began a grinding noise. took to get brakes looked at 2 weeks later and was informed the brakes/rotors were shot. one rotor was completely metal on metal and all the pads needed replacing. for a brand new car with less than 30k miles on it, there is no reason the brakes should have failed. i called the dealership to find out if the rotor was covered under my extended warranty and was told only the first 12k miles were covered. i have owned numerous cars over the years and have never had the brake damage/repairs needed on this car after so little time and miles had been driven on the car. after reading numerous complaints regarding the same issue, chrysler needs to look into the problem. brake repairs cost me $400.00 for a car i bought brand new less than 2 years ago.

I purchased a 2009 dodge journey in may of 2009. within a month of the purchase, i had the brakes and rotors replaced. since then, i have complained numerous times about the brakes pulsating when applied and the steering wheel shaking. this has been a safety issue since the purchase of the car. i have all the documents to show where i have complained to the dealership. now they are saying the brakes are no longer under warranty and i would have to pay for any service done to the brakes. i am not understanding why i should have to come out of my pocket with this expense when i have been complaining since i purchased the vehicle. i have a grandson that i transport daily and don't feel safe driving something that i am paying for monthly. i recenty had a vehicle pull out in front of me and went to put the brakes on and the brakes made a grinding and took a long to stop. the steering wheel shook as i applied the brake. my grandson was in the vehicle, but he was not injured.

I purchased a 09 dodge journey in march 09.had front brakes pads/rotors replaced at 9k miles, rear brake pads/rotors at 10k miles. i just took back in today for another set of front pads/rotors today at 25k miles. i have also contacted chrysler regarding lemon law in statie of tn. upon investigation online found that numerous owners are having the same problems, can you please investigate this? i am happy with the car, just very nervous when driving with my 2 children in the car. i have owned numerous chrysler/dodge vehicles and never had a problem like this. in fact my problems began in july 09 and i have been trying to work with the dealership to get this corrected, i think someone else needs to step in and help the consumers!!

At 15,000 miles on my 09 dodge journey, the front brake pads are gone and the front routers warped. the back pads are fine but the back routers are warped. i was told by the dealership this is normal wear. i have owned numerous new cars and this is not normal. dealership is unwilling to correct this problem.

On monday, march 8, 2010, my wife, two year old daughter and i suffered a third episode of the following dangerous malfunctions: steering, transmission and drivetrain issues that, without notice, result in an unbearable screeching and grinding noise emanating from underneath the vehicle at speeds between 15 and 30 mph, a pause and hesitation in acceleration between speeds of 15 and 30 m.p.h. that causes the car to jump forward, the immediate loss of accurate steering and a burning smell throughout the car interior we suffered the most recent episode, without notice, while driving through rush hour traffic at 7:45 a.m. we waited two hours for a tow truck to arrive. fortunately, my wife and daughter were only shaken, but not injured. in the last three months, we have had an unsafe rear tire replaced, sunroof parts replaced for constant leaking, a new electronic module installed to prevent the episodes of the entire electronic system malfunctioning causing the loss of car function and door locks and multiple power steering parts replaced.

I have a 09 journey, bought a year ago. brakes front and back have had to be replaced and need replacement again. interior lights dim when wipers or other electronic controls are operated. engine makes noise as though the lifters aren't getting oil--had it in shop for that and they can't find anything and it is getting worse. right side front wheel sounds like bearing is having issues too. product is dangerous--brakes and not being taken care of under warranty--dealer, have 26,000 miles on it

Premature front brake wear on 2009 dodge journey. at 13,000 miles the front brake pads had to be replaced for state inspection. this was in may of 2009. now that the car has 27,000 miles on it the front brakes started grinding suddenly. now the front brake pads and rotors will have to be replaced. never had to replace brakes on a car every 13,000 miles. checked the internet and found very similar complaints. is there a recall or a permanent fix for this problem other than replacing brakes every 6 months? *tr

Dodge journey 2009. we had to replace the front pads with 21k miles and front rotors had to be turned twice to get them even. now with 27k the front rotors need to be replaced and the pads in the rear need to be replaced, as well. this must be a manufacturer problem. (do customers always need to wait until someone dies -- toyota!!). *tr

2009 dodge journey had to have brakes and rotors replaced at 16,000. brought vehicle in for tire rotation and found out everything needed replacing. unheard of. vehicle repair technician informed me that he has been seeing an abnormal amount of 2009 journey's/caravan's with the same issue. dodge must be putting on sub-par brakes for this to be happening. no accident occurred...but i wasn't expecting to replace at only 16,000. i've seen others on a dodge forum website that have had to replace even sooner. whatever you can do to help. it's like david fighting goliath. *tr

My 2009 dodge journey required new rotors and brake pads at under 20k miles - the back brakes needed to be changed by 25k miles. dealer service center could not give a reason as to why both sets of brakes would need to be changed so soon. after researching on the internet this was found to be a common problem. brakes that need to be changed before 15k miles or you have to change the rotors as well seems to be a defect to me. i believed the squeak was due to dirt in the wheel wells, as i was told when i took it in at 15k miles.... this is very dangerous as well as costly. i am now at almost 30k miles and the squeak is back. changing brakes every 15k miles is ludicrous. *tr
