| I have had numerous cars in my time and i would like to say that the dodge neon that i purchased is about the worst investment that i have ever made. i have experiencd numerous problems with this vehicle. for start, the brakes keep failing, and two, the wiring harness is so poorly designed that it has fused wires together causing the whole car to malfunction. dt | |||

| Peeling paint on my 1995 dodge neon. i am on my third transmission, replaced air conditioner because of smoke under hood, brakes, rotors, fuel leaking, valve cover gasket, head gasket, no oil in engine had it towed. i also in the time i own my neon i have had all kinds of problems. after replacing all this i only had one recall sent to me on the steering coupler. i had that fixed at the dealer. but, i haven't had any other recalls sent to me. 2 transmissions and alot of money spent on a lemon. *tr | |||

| The brakes on the car are just terrible. i bought the car in 2002, it was a 1995 neon dodge(best i could buy back then). but in less than a year since i've had the car i've had to have the air conditioner fixed one time, the paint is basically peeling off by itself, but the worst part are the brakes, i've had them changed three times in less than eight months. once i almost got in car accident because they failed on me. since i bought it in a small local dealer shop much could not be done, but i am looking foward to getting a better car with better safety features. | |||

| Dt: the caller said that brakes will not work one has to hit the brakes at the last minute. she said one can feel a pop, and then the brakes fail. she had to run into a ditch to keep form hitting someone. the police were called, and there a report was taken. there was a crash. there were injuries to the pedestrian. she said the hub assembly was bad and had it replaced. also, the tie rod wobbled and had it replaced. had another accident with the brakes when the car in front of stopped suddenly and brakes did not work. police came and a report was taken. the lady in the other vehicle was injured. dealer will take the car to dealer, and they will talk about it. manufacturer has not been contacted yet. caller said she was not informed about the problems the vehicle had when she bought it.*ak | |||

| My daughter was driving my 1995 dodge neon when the steering wheel locked and caused her to have an accident. she was traveling at approx 35 - 40 mph .there were no abnormal weather or road conditions. suddenly the steering wheel jerked the car off the road towards the right, at that point she had a loss of steering and no control of the vehicle. she was not applying the brakes or making a turn, just driving along as she normally would. previosly we have had problems, serious problems with the antilock brake system failing. when applying the brakes on two separate occasions the front wheels locked up once causing a minor accident , the other just caused damage to the tires. the accident when the steering failed was fortunately a minor one . but could just as easily been a very serios possibly fatal. since at the time of the steering loss, there was no way to control the direction of the vehicle, which resulted in damage to a residential homeowners yard and personal property that was located in the yard. the vehicle came to rest between two trees because it was stopped by a tension wire attached to a telephone pole which was struck and became wrapped around the front left tire. if not for that she would have struck a concrete culvert only a few feet away.. we are presently involved in proceedings to have the citation she received dismissed due to faulty equipment. also i did inquire with dodge motor corp re safety recall info...which i was informed that my vehicle has no incomplete recall work , but i also received a car facts report from consumer guide stating that there was a recall and there is no information stating the work had been completed by dodge to correct the problem. which if it had been corrected the info would have been updated to show that. if you could please help me with this matter, and possibly save someone from this mess. also i have a friend who lost her arm from her 95 neon crash from steering failure of which i was unaware until after mine.*ak | |||

| I bought the car (1995) used in 1998. a few months later, the master cylinder went out in road construction nearly causing an accident. had to replace calipers, rotors, brakes and master cylinder. i had a warranty but was told it was not covered. it cost me 1000 dollars. two months later, i had to replace the brakes again. had continuous brake noise throughout the next year with a couple more added brake replacements. in dec. of 2000, had to replace brake booster. costing me another 500 dollars in repairs. i am scared to death to drive it. on jan. 12 of 2001 the abs light came on and stayed on. i called to see what the worst case scenario would be and i was told 1000 dollars to fix a sensor!!! i want dodge to pay for the on going brake problem. this is a very serious problem and should be addressed. i have come so close to getting into accidents from the failures of the brake system!! this is a life threatening safety feature that should never had any problems besides the normal wear and tear of the brakes. i am afraid to drive it. please respond and tell me if there have been any recalls. i was told there was a service bulletin on the brake booster and now i want dodge to pay for it. thank you.*ak | |||

| Fuel pump - has extra port that is capped with a non-reenforced rubber cap. the rubber cap appears to have exploded on the end of the cap while the car was sitting in a parking lot. the rupture of the cap allowed gasoline to drip about 1 drop per second. on this car the exhaust pipes are close to the fuel tank. gas fumes were highly noticeable in the passenger compartment. thank goodness for nonsmoker, no sparks, and a guardian angel...my daugther drove the car 7 miles home. this reminds me of the ford pinto fire possibilities. mopar parts does not stock the rubber cap (maybe $1) but will sell the entire fuel pump for just under $300 plus installation. 2) engine - engine failed on cylinder 4 with lost power, etc. had warranty and most of part/labor covered. called chrysler hotline several times and was assured there were no problems being reported with this car (same story at dealer). 3) brakes/air conditioner - failure occurred after car 1 yr old, warranty covered most of costs 4) the failure of the fuel pump component is the most startling of the problems with this car. i sincerely hope that no other neon owner ever experiences this part failure. *ak | |||

| 'ive had my car since 9/94 and now with 123,000 miles. i like the shape and the color and comfort of the car. i was told by several dealers to drive it to the end. i will never get what i paid for a trade-in. as of now, ive use my exetended warranty, cant afford to put in shop, 2/98 made a call to holzauers and asked about my skruntched in bits pieces rotor. they checked for squeeks and didnt tell me about a bad rotor. squealing and no brakes. a new brake system was done and still squeaking. now back brakes are bad. ive had lots of bad things happen. but ive had lots of compliments ofthe color. one week after i got it a car spun rocks & scratched the hood paint. the paint job is not good. im getting rusty spots now. water leaked inside and holzauers rigged it to stop. when it get 90/100' hot weather, air bag light stays on, heat/air fan dont work til car cools. i use phillips 66 gas w/93 oct most of the time. 10% ethonol is bad. it will flutter w/low oct water based gas. in reverse gear it grinds and wont go into gear. ive tolerated most of these things til it wont move or start. im glad to have a car. at the price then 13,000$ is not fair. my rights as a consumer w/anew car have not been met. arbitration turned me down over my windows and doors out of adjustment. said my mileage was too high. but for months w/low mileage i was ignored. chrysler just wanted money. i did recommend a newer neon to my aunt. she purchased one. i love my car. but without defects. my window still leaks, my left turn sig. dont go off, brakes squeek, engine light stays on, coil wire loosens, my car shocks my boyfriend, ignition is lose, suspension is bad, car hops around bumpy corners at 30 mph. paint is chipping, i ve had 3 sets of new tires, 2 new batteries, a new fuel pump, airconditioning unit, oil pump is weak, engine makes crakling sound when accelarating. ok! | |||

| I bought the car (1995) used in 1998. a few months later, the master cylinder went out in road construction nearly causing an accident. had to replace calipers, rotors, brakes and master cylinder. i had a warranty but was told it was not covered. it cost me 1000 dollars. two months later, i had to replace the brakes again. had continuous brake noise throughout the next year with a couple more added brake replacements. in dec. of 2000, had to replace brake booster. costing me another 500 dollars in repairs. i am scared to death to drive it. on jan. 12 of 2001 the abs light came on and stayed on. i called to see what the worst case scenario would be and i was told 1000 dollars to fix a sensor!!! i want dodge to pay for the on going brake problem. this is a very serious problem and should be addressed. i have come so close to getting into accidents from the failures of the brake system!! this is a life threatening safety feature that should never had any problems besides the normal wear and tear of the brakes. i am afraid to drive it. please respond and tell me if there have been any recalls. i was told there was a service bulletin on the brake booster and now i want dodge to pay for it. thank you.*ak | |||

| On august 12th while driving on scatterfield dr, an area of high construction, my 1995 dodge neon suddenly stalled and quit right in the middle of traffic. i had a full tank of gas so i knew that was not the problem and luckily it was a construction area and traffic was moving rather slowly. i was able to pull off the road and the car would not start so i caledl peyton well auto at (765) 644-1111, who on august 11th had just repaired my car for similar problems that included my battery light coming on and then the car may or maynot start.they sent a tow truck to get me. a month earlier the car stalled and just quit and i had it towed to this same dealership who charged me 300.00 to fix the electrical suspension and harness. on august the 11th i was told it was the starter and that cost me another 300.00. after researching the recall list i found recall information # 94v033000 that identifies powertrain control module problems that should be replaced. this was obviously never completed on this vehicle. i am scared to drive the vehicle. the peyton well service advisor ben woodfill stated if anything like this happened again they would fix it for free but this was after telling me that the main harness to the motor needed replacing and that they had found some corrosion on another electical part and cleaned it up on august 12th. my fiance spoke with the service advisor and stated that we were under the impression the problem was fixed the first time when we had it towed in but now they were telling us that it would cost and additional 700.00 to get this so called main harness replaced. it was then that mr. woodfill confered with his manager and they stated they would fix anymore problems like the ones i have had for free. to me this is unacceptable. if they know there is aready a problem then why not go ahead and fix it. don't wait until my car stalls in 65 mph traffic and it is too late. please help!!! *ak | |||
