| Make: dodge model: neon type: passenger car year: 2000 summary: as noted in other complaints, with any heavy rainfall, the floor in the back seats fills with water (up to an inch or more). appears to be entering through the trunk area, as the spare tire well also fills with water. using sponges and a shopvac to soak up the water and then leaving windows open to dry it out is my only remedy to the moisture and odor. this has been occurring since the vehicle was purchased in 2001. the dealer is of no help because (mercifully for others) that deal went bankrupt a year after purchase. i have a litany of other concerns with the 2000 neon. i've had to replace the engine (chrysler refused to honor warranty - partly a problem with records as the dealership of purchase/initial maintenance has gone out of business), each time i start the car, the fuse warning light comes on, though all fuses have been checked and look ok. an electrical harness has failed and as a result i have no functioning interior dome lights or exterior backup lights. repeated efforts by several repair facilities to locate the correct harness have failed. vehicle has under 72,000 miles of relatively easy city driving (commute to workplace) or divided highway driving), yet most front and rear suspension system components have failed and been replaced (all struts, sway bars, etc). transmission fluid hose or connector failed on feb 19, 2006, resulting in sudden and complete loss of fluid. *nm | |||

| I owned a 2000 dodge neon. i last drove the vehicle on may 25, 2004 and it had been parked outside my apartment since that time. according to the police report, on may 27, 2004 at about 2:45am my car while parked outside my apartment caught on fire. i was unaware of this and was asleep in my apartment at that time. according to the police and fire department, the fire was confined to the engine compartment and had to be put out by the fire department. according to the insurance fire investigator, the heat from the fire was so intense and engine and front end damage so severe that he was unable to determine an official cause but suspected the fire to be electrical in nature. officially according to my insurance, the cause is unknown. my insurance determined my vehicle to be a total loss. i have no reason to expect arson or that it was deliberately set fire. the police and fire departments also did not suspect arson and are not pursuing further investigation. the consequence of this fire was a big finacial loss for me(based on my annual income) due to the insurance reimbursing only half the original cost of the car. i also am thankful that i was not operating the vehicle when this happened which could have caused me serious injuries. i did have two prior accidents to the front end of this vehicle with one of the crashes requiring the engine to be removed and put back in. this crash, however, took place over a year ago and i had no problems with the neon up until may 27, 2004. as a result, i do not suspect the prior repairs to be the cause of this fire. with the recent recall of the chryslar pt cruiser, i thought i should report this neon engine fire to protect other neon owner's safety. | |||

| When applying the brakes, the vehicle will start to pulsate at any speed. also, extended stopping distance. contacted dealer. *ak the consumer states the following as problems occured: the passenger air bag, throttle blade icing, defective rotors, charging system over charging-no trouble codes; 3 battery replacements(defective per mechanic), many gas tank repairs/replacements(would not take gas without clicking and ticking/filler tank/gas tank), warning brake light and buzzer chimes when brake is applied also with the gas pedal when applied (due to defective rotors and lack of brake fluid, transmission problem-grinding noise/won't go in reverse, brake noise in rear tire/brake booster replace per recall-needs rotors & pads in front, a/c blows warm air-compessor clutch wouldn't engage(found broken wire), problem with the voltage regulator, and noise in the power steering. *scc | |||

| The car idles very high and then accelerates to higher speeds without touching the accelerator pedal. there is a high acceleration boosts and spurts when first accelerating from a stopped position, causing car to lunge forward at high speeds. the car refuses to start when not used daily, such as a problem with the starter or the alternator, but no problems have been found with either parts upon inspections by a mechanic. front axles pop when turning. key is hard to disengage or remove from the ignition. brakes are constantly squealing and wear every 3-6 months regardless f how the car is driven. though it may or not be a problem for some, the fold down seats in the rear seat do not have a disengage lever from the trunk. over-head dome light does not function properly and has faulty wiring, so that even though all doors are closed the dome light never shuts off. there is constantly a fuse light that flashes in my dash, though all fuses have been checked numerous times and all are in perfect working order, though they have been replaced, the warning light still flashes. the utility outlet/cigarette lighter outlet doesn't and has not ever worked since the car was bought in 2004. fuses have been replaced multiple times, but the problem still has not been fixed. water leaks in from rain or windshield wipers causing musty odor in the car. car constantly over-heats during travel over 35-40 miles and leaks anti-freeze, though no leaks or pin holes of any kind could be found. trunk sticks making it hard to open or disengage, caused key to be broken off inside the trunk lock. *jb | |||

| Dt: was driving to work and first stopped at the red light on the outside lane the green light came on ,and the car was in first gear. when trying to place car in second gear consumer was unable to shift and felt that the vehicle did not have gears. the consumer was able to coast the vehicle off the road to the nearest turnoff lane. a police officer followed consumer as to see what was wrong. had to have vehicle towed to a dealer, and the dealer said the crossover cable broke. no explanation as to why this happened. consumer had this repaired and had no problems since repair. *ak the batteries have been replaced in the consumer's vehicle. the gasket were replaced because water was getting inside the car during rainstorm. the right front motor mount cracked. *nm | |||

| Bought car from father in law, he bought the car new. he had no problems with it.soon after i bought from him in 2000(it was still new!),power windows quit working then started working again.cruise control went out, still dont work. front end crash 2003 may, 4783.45 in damage, air bag did not deploy at 40mph !!! i had car repaired by non chrysler garage as per advice of erie insurance co. erie wont cover because they say its chrysler's problem, chrysler says its my problem because work was done at non daimler chrysler garage and they were rude and hung up on me! erie told me to have diagnostic check done on it becuz in aug 03 the air bag lite started to come on and horn wont work. i had the check done and they said clockspring needs replaced. not erie or chrysler will fix. | |||

| I will try to only refer to the visits made to the dealership to repair my vehicle directly relevant to this issue, though keep in mind i have been in service on 8 different occasions with my car. on may 7, 2001, i got in my vehicle to go to work in the morning, the car was dead and would not start. i called roadside assistance. my car was towed to the dealership, and i was told that the battery had a dead cell, and was replaced. *ak | |||

| The original battery was replaced 12,000 miles ago and less than 3 months later this new battery died. chrysler & dealer refused to replace regardless of the fact that the battery lasted less than 3 months. the cause of this second battery failure like the first was determined to be its closeness to the engine block and its intense aount of heat generated during normal use combined with the tropical climate of florida. i beleive that chrysler is aware of this but will not offer a protective shield to reduce the extreme heat that the battery must endure. i contacted chrysler today and the associate not only was rude but like the dealer did not offer any possible solution. the dealer claims that another replacement battery for my automobile will cost $110.00 plus tax and would not offer any further assistance. *ak | |||

| Since 1/15/01 the battery is dead if the car is not driven every day. if we let the car sit for one full day, the battery is dead. the dealer has replaced the module and radio thinking that is the problem. it is back in the shop now because the battery went dead after one day of not driving the car. the technicians cannot find the problem of why the battery goes dead.*ak | |||

| Vehicle has been doing this problem since the day i purchased it. i am tired of taking it to the dealer and they not fixing. service manager told me that there was in fact a problem, but because the computer isn't registering any codes, they can't fix it. he told me he wanted the car to die. i personally do not want it to die because it is dangerous!! the engine completely cut out on me when i was going 65 mph and has also done so at a stop. the vehicle stumbles and hesitates at accelaration between gears and then will cut out with no prior warning except a slight shaking of the vehicle. the dealership (ourisman dodge) keeps telling me that they can't fix it until the computer registers...well, that may be too late.*ak | |||

| Ignition switch-i stop to the store one monrning and when returning to my vehicle to start, i couldn't turn the ignition switch. i had to have the car towed to the dealership and they had to replace my ignition cylinder because it locked up, which cost me $386.02. i had this car for only 3 years. will it be every 3 years i have to spend close to $400 to replace the cylinder again?*ak | |||

| I bought the vehicle 2 months ago. since then i have put $750 into repairs and have estimates for $1000 more worth of repairs. the manufacturers problems included a rear main oil seal leak, an oil pan gasket leak, and a distributor switch leak. there was also a bent wheel, damaged tire, and bad starter. the dealer (dick morris chevrolet) will do nothing to fix it. *jb | |||

| Air conditioning suddenly went out from cold to hot air. code in system is p0645, says a/c clutch relay circuit, an open or shorted condition detected in the a/c clutch relay control circuit. i bought the service manual for dodge 2000 neon. i went to the dodge dealer and they said a wire breaks on the black harness attached to the clutch relay on the air conditioner. i hit a bump in the road when the air went from cold to hot air. i checked all fuses are ok. there is no power though to the harness to the high pressure cut out switch or the low pressure cut off switch or the black connector on the air conditioner. the service manual says this may be caused from defective wiring - fuse - or relay. i can't afford to go to the dealer and have them trouble shoot the problem. any ideas to what my problem is and how to fix it? i'm still paying my car off and already spent 400.00 to replace brake rotors etc.., now my air conditioning is faulty. help! help! *jb | |||

| I have been driving my car back and forth from college and running errands around town. i have a completely stocked 2000 dodge neon es. i use the headlights most of the time, even during the day, to increase visibility. one night, i was driving through my town. i smelled something burning but not thinking anything of it since i was near a rural area that could have camp fires lit. this happened about 2 months ago. then i noticed that my headlights were not working as they used to. the fog lights would turn on sometimes and other times not. i figured that it was just a switch and not a big deal so i did nothing to fix it. then my high beams stopped working about 2 weeks ago. i did a bit of research to try to determine the problem. i stumbled upon a website and read about looking at the multi-function switch. several other people have had the same problem. i just got finished checking out my car. the wiring harness that connects to the mfs is melted as has evidence of burn marks. the headlights currently work but the fog lights and high beams do not. i have taken several pictures of the melted harness and will send them to whoever i need to. i have read up on replacing the wiring harness but it is rather expensive. especially if it will melt again sometime in the near future. i believe the part number is 5183442aa based on several sources. i will be replacing this part probably on my own to save some money, especially on a part i should not have to be ordering in the first place. *jn | |||
