Defect SummaryFederal mogul is recalling 6,903 aftermarket ball joint assemblies shipped between november 9, 2007 and march 26, 2008, which may have been packaged with incorrect nuts. the part numbers packaged with incorrect nuts are: k7147, k7329, k8683, and 104353. these parts were made for use on the various vehicles listed above.
Consequence SummaryThe nuts included in the packaging for these ball joint assemblies are missing the intended prevailing torque (self-locking) feature. if the incorrect nut was to become loose, the joining members may loosen leading to a separation of the ball joint. this may result in loss of vehicle control, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash.
Corrective SummaryFederal mogul will notify owners and replace the parts free of charge. the recall began on may 22, 2008. owners can contact federal mogul at 877-489-6659.
NotesThis recall only pertains to aftermarket ball joint assemblies and has no relation to any original equipment installed on vehicles manufactured by the vehicle manufacturers.customers may contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

I was leaving the parking lot sunday and something snapped. i got out of the car and checked the front end and one wheel was one way and other was the other direction! looked underneath and saw that the ball broke out of the socket. if that would of happened on the freeway, i would be dead or severely injured. *tr

Every year since i bought this car i've had to replace the front tires because they are wearing on the inside. tried alignment each time i've replaced them. took it to pep boys this time and they said it was the control arm bushing was bad on both sides. my 60,000 mile tires only made it 20,000 miles. they said the 2005 model was improved upon but they did nothing for the 2004 year. this is getting very expensive replacing tires every 20,000 miles. especially when these are high profile tires. *tr

While driving 45 mph a loud ticking noise was heard coming from underneath the hood of the vehicle. consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, however the mechanic could not duplicate or resolve the problem. *ak the headlights had gone out while the consumer was driving the vehicle, the wheel needed to be replaced, there was a problem with the brake line in the front, the wheel bearing was broken in half, the fog lights had gone out, there was a roaring sound when the vehicle was in motion, there was a whirling sound in the engine which would get worse when accelerated, the rotor/pads rusted, the steering pulled to the left, and when slowing down, the steering wheel would shake.
