For 3 to 4 weeks, intermittent braking problems with car. after driving about 3 miles from start, stopping at 4 stop signs, passing through 3 traffic lights no problems - driving using cruise control set at 55-65mph, driving up hill, often the engine is accelerating , when i put my foot on the brake because i want to slow down - the brake pedal does not move - i can't push it down on the first try. until yesterday, the second attempt at braking worked normally 100% of the time. the cruise control does not disengage until the brakes can be engaged. yesterday i had to try the brake pedal three times before i was able to push the brake pedal down and engage brakes. have been able to recreate problem several times, the incident yesterday occured when i was trying to recreate. problem has occured at least 20 times in past weeks. in 2 incidents the pedal initially resisted but i was able to push it down without making a second attempt - driving on a sort of level area. always happens when the cruise control is engaged, actively controlling speed of car. never experienced the problem or duplicated when cruise not actively engaged. no problems at interstate speeds 75-80 mph. never happens in town cruise engaged set to 35-45 mph. its been happening more and more. since the incident where it took 3 tries to engage the brakes. no longer using cruise. first visit to dealer not able to determine the problem (after 3 incidents) going back to the dealer's on jan 2. drive 66 miles round trip each work day new mexico road with many hills, high altitude above 6,200 ft. question - next section has a y/n question about oem - don't know what that is.

New brakes installed from dealer prior to purchase of this used car in may of 2008. in sept 2008, (about 5k miles later) unable to stop vehicle at 45 mph - hit guardrail causing neck injury and property damage. was determined by bodyshop that brakes failed due to leaking rear compressor, which soaked brake pads. completely replaced rear components at time of accident irepair n oct 2008. have only driven about 20,000 miles since then ...in june 2010, same situation occured with rear compressors leaking, resulting in no brake fluid whatsover. entire front and rear brakes and complete rear brake components/system have just been replaced june 2010.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge neon. the radiator clamp fell off and caused all of the radiator fluid to leak out of the vehicle. the vehicle failed and was towed to the dealer. at 9,000 miles, the front brake pads had to be replaced and an alignment was performed. both repairs were performed under warranty. at 15,000 miles, the tires caused the vehicle to shake when the gear was in drive. all four tires were replaced under warranty. at 18,000 miles, the brackets under the driver's seat failed and the seat could not be moved backwards or forwards. the repair was performed under warranty. also at 18,000 miles, the dealer had to adjust the rear brakes because they were squealing and pulsating. the squealing and pulsating occurred all the time, but especially in the mornings. the contact paid for the adjustment. the cd player failed and was repaired under warranty. currently, the rear brakes are still squealing and pulsating, and the motor mounts have failed. the motor makes a popping sound during acceleration. while driving in reverse, the motor will sink into the vehicle. the only thing supporting the motor is the exhaust. the motor is almost touching the hood of the vehicle when it is closed. he has scheduled an appointment for the motor mounts to be repaired. the current mileage was 32,764 and failure mileage was 300.

Complete brake system failure. after neon sat for approx 36 hours parked it was driven at hwy speeds for approx 12 miles and brake pedal would travel without effort to floor. using a combination of engine braking and hand brake i was able to come to a stop after pumping pedal normal braking would occur. it has been to the dealer four times now with air in the lines for no apparent reason. after a master cylinder was replaced it seemed normal only to have the pedal travel to the floor once again. dealer now states unable to duplicate. i bought the car new and only have 8k miles on it. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge neon. while attempting to make a turn at an unknown speed, the vehicle lost all brake power. the contact was able to pull into someone's driveway and apply her emergency brake to stop the vehicle. her boyfriend removed the tire and noticed brake fluid leaking onto the ground. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that they would have to order the parts for the repair because they could not be purchased outside of the manufacturer. the dealer repaired the brakes and other failures at the cost of $400. the failure mileage was 27,050 and current mileage was 28,008. updated 07/07/08. *lj the consumer stated the brake hose was installed incorrectly when the vehicle was manufacturer. the hose was the wrong size which lead to a lag in the hose which overtime rubbed and formed a hole which caused the brakes to fail. updated
