On july 3, 2007, daimlerchrysler corporation (dcc) submitted a defect information report to nhtsa describing a defect that could result in engine stall while driving in approximately 80,894 model year (my) 2007 jeep wrangler and dodge nitro vehicles manufactured between january 30, 2006 and january 22, 2007 (nhtsa recall 07v-291, dcc recall g25).according to dcc, the totally integrated power module (tipm) in these vehicles was programmed with software that may allow the engine to stall under certain conditions.dcc will reprogram the tipm in the recalled vehicles with revised software. odi opened pe07-027 on may 29, 2007, based on 53 complaints alleging engine stall and/or loss of electrical power in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles.odi was also monitoring similar complaints in my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.dcc's analysis of complaints to dcc and nhtsa found that many described events with a momentary loss of electrical power inside the vehicle and a corresponding loss of engine power.many of the reports also indicated that the instrument cluster telltale lamps momentarily illuminated during the event. dcc's engineering analysis determined that the tipm could initiate an internal reset cycle lasting approximately 75 ms in response to error messages on the communication bus.the key on signal from the tipm to the powertrain control module (pcm) is lost during a tipm reset.if the pcm loses the key on signal for longer than 40 ms, it interprets it as the vehicle ignition being turned off and begins a power down routine.after the tipm reset, the key on signal is restored and the pcm powers back up.if the rotating components of the engine contain sufficient inertia, the vehicle may restart with no input from the operator as reported in some of the complaints.if the engine does not restart in this manner, it can be restarted by the operator.a revision to the tipm software on january 22, 2007 changed the tipm reset time to 17 ms, removing the potential for pcm power down and engine stall. odi has received 178 complaints potentially related to the alleged defect in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles and 52 complaints involving my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.two of the nitro complaints allege that a crash resulted from an engine stall incident, one of which caused minor injuries to a passenger.as of june 1, 2007, dcc identified 151 wrangler complaints and 128 nitro complaints. this investigation has been closed with dcc's recall.

The drive shaft broke in half. the aluminum insulation blanket located above the drive shaft sagged and came in contact with the drive shaft. over time, the rubbing of the blanket against the drive shaft wore away a 5 inch part of the drive shaft until it broke in half. the blanket has nothing to keep it from sagging such as wire (wire is used in other places but not above the spot on my care that allowed the blanket to sag).

On july 4th 2012 i was at a stop light. the light turned green and as i started to turn the car jumped in the air the air bags on the sides deployed. i stopped the car to see what happened. as i got out i checked the rear to make sure i did not get hit. no cars around. i looked under the car and the drive shaft was broke in half. i did not run over anything this truck has never been in a wreck. i towed the truck home started looking on line and see many other people have had the same issues. just as the others it looks like something may have rubbed on it making the shaft thin and breakable. most people that i have talked with said it was the heat shield. i believe that's what caused my issues. if we would have been on the interstate i believe my family and i could have been easily killed. *tr

Starting from a stop going to accelerate from 0-35 the vehile looses all power or surges until over 35 mph. pulling out into an intersection almost got t-boned because the vehile lost all power to engine and died. this has happened on multiple occasions and has almost caused 5 accidents to date. took vehile to dealership and they said nothing was wrong with it.

While stopped at a crosswalk. i proceeded to excelerate from a stopped position.. while excellerating my entire drive shaft spun apart and fell to the ground in two pieces. i had my nitro towed to my local chyrster/dodge/jeep dealership who was close for the weekend. i did an after-hours drop and explained the incident and told them that this obviously had to be a vehicle defect that should be covered under warranty as the vehicle has a life time power train warranty along with and extended warranty that i purchased as originally owner when i bought the vehicle. i was told by the dealership service department that the only way this could have happened was for me to have damaged the vehicle or bottomed out to something. i told them absolutely not. that wasn't the case at all. they refused to cover it under warranty and suggested i make a claim with my insurance. they also said if i wanted to have chrysler corp see if they could still cover it under warranty i would have to call them and make a claim to push it farther. i did so and was told by warranty department with chrysler that they wouldn't even mate a determination till my insurance made a determination if they would cover a claim or not. i told chrysler warranty department that it should make no difference weather they will or won't cover it. that chrysler should cover this defective drive shaft under my existing warranty. needless to say they didn't. my issue is that after doing some research and googleing, 2007 dodge nitro drive share i came across and blog that listed the exact same problem i had happen to my drive shaft happening all over the country. i even explained that to chrysler warranty department and my local service department and they said they couldn't go by a blog to determine a warranty repair and insisted i had to have damaged the drive shaft to make it fall apart.heatshieldis causing

After having a vibration in the under carriage of my dodge nitro; i then carried it to a dodge dealership and was told that it needed an induction service. i being totally displeased with the reccomendation; i decided to seek some assistance at a local garage and an investigation was done of the vehicle. as a result of the mechanic doing a few test and driving the vehicle; it was said that the vehicle had a chattering feeling coming from the drive train {automatic transmission}. the mechanic also did a google search to find that a lot of other vehicles are having the same problem!!! it was also recorded that there's some issues with the electronics and a few other parts; yet dodge is sitting back making money off the consumers for these known defects in their vehicles. why??? also is it just the manner of business now to build vehicle to breakdown on an annual basis??? see nbc nightline news invetsigation on dodge dealerships!!! please research!!! thank you a concerned consumer seeking assistance. would this be a good time to start a world wide class action lawsuit??? please reply as i seek legal counsel

Uncontrolled accelleration of 2007 dodge nitro, w/3.7 litre, has happened 5 times in six months of owning . cant be fixed by dealer cause doesn't show code or able to duplicate when they have it , only way to stop it is to put in neutral and kill engine . have had other problems like idle rough and surging , and like someone turning key off and on for split second while driving at highway speeds. there has not been any pattern to when sudden acel happens , it has been random and can seemingly happen w/out notice. the dealer keeps telling me to keep driving it till it does it again so they can try to get codes or something to trouble shoot it. but this is very dangerous as you would think. im at a loss to what to do , i have contacted dodge complaint line and they don't seem to worried about my safety as it would seem , do to them wanting me to keep bringing it back to dealer . also no parts have been changed in order to try to correct ,only hook up scanner and drive around block and flash programs at it which has seemingly had ill affect on it as in my fuel mileage has went 23-24 highway to about 15-18 now, and they cant get it back where it was, now it is parked in driveway and family wont drive because scared of it, and i m still paying on vehicle that is unsafe and no idea how to fix , or dodge i should say, cant fix. *tr

When driving the vehicle, as it shifts through the gears it may shift flawlessly or very erratically. when shifting erratically it goes from gear to gear with a hard banging noise from under the vehicle, or it shifts through the gears and bogs down with a vibration from under the floor boards. the vehicle has been in twice so far for this problem. the first time the power control module was reprogrammed but this did not help. the second time a part was reprogrammed that was on a recall but this didn't help either. *tr

With only 4,500 miles on my 2007 dodge nitro, the entire engine stalled, died, while i was driving to work, going about 45 miles per hour. power loss was complete, no radio, no engine, all lights on the instrument panel came on. the outage lasted about , i guess 30 secs to 1 minute, then the engine came back on as did the radio. i was in heavy traffic, on the inside lane and had it not restarted, i was in a wreck for sure as a big truck was behind me, another car next to me in the outside lane. i have taken it to the dealer which says it could be the ignition switch, but after reading for hours on the dodge nitro forum, i find that many have experienced this same issue and not one dealer has been able to find a fix. i have had this vehicle in the shop 7 times since i bought it. all of the problems are a problem for me as this is my only vehicle and being single, i have no other transportation to my teaching job. but this stalling issue, if not fixed, will lead to a major accident any day. chrysler need to be actively pursuing a fix or a recall for this problem before someone is killed. *tr

Transmission slams into gear when cold hard shifting until warm. while driving the transmission is slow to shift to a lower gear to allow timely acceleration, causes persistent vibrations while traveling between 40-45 mph. has not caused any collisions yet but chrysler has been unable to fix after multiple attempts. my fear is transmission failure or inability to accelerate when needed to avoid a dangerous situation. *tr

Serious transmission shifting problems caused bog down in gear changing, then surging . also, just shut down vehicle, leaving driver powerless to prevent a rear end collision. terrible problem, that was not corrected by current chrysler's tsb. i had computer update and new torque converter, and still shifting problems. loud clanking noises, bumps while shifting. strange sounds and vibrations from under floorboards. there should be a recall on this before someone got seriously hurt. crysler needed to take action on this and quit making excuses very dangerous.*ak

I am writing to you to express my concerns and also complaints regarding daytona dodge. my husband and i purchased a 2007 dodge nitro on july 7, 2008. we brought it back the very next day, because it wasn't running correctly, and also a check engine light was on. between july 8th and january 1, 2009, that vehicle has been in the service department of daytona dodge 11 or 12 times. they have had to drop the transmission on this vehicle 3 times; they brought in a corporate representative from dodge over in orlando. he test drove the vehicle with us, and did identify that there was a problem. however, after inducting the vehicle back in for service, the problem was still not fixed. i was finally told by the service manager that daytona dodges service department has done everything they were told to do, and that the vehicle is just suppose to run that way. i find it very difficult to believe that any corporation would manufacture a vehicle to run the way this nitro does. i have done some investigating, and found that there are various problems that have been associated with the dodge nitro. the nitro i have both shudders at around 40 mph and also has a problem idling, it tries to shut off periodically whilst at a red light. i feel that this is a terrible way to treat customers. please understand that i am writing to you in the hopes that perhaps you can get someone to address the issue. *tr updated 03/06/09.*jb
