| The agency, particularly in recent months, has been informed of incidents involving allegations of personal injury and death claimed to have been caused by safety defects and failures to conform to minimum federal motor vehicle safety standards (fmvss) on rental car vehicles for which a safety recall to remedy the safety defect or noncompliance had allegedly not been performed prior to the rental car company's lease of the vehicle.nhtsa understands that there is presently a petition before the federal trade commission (ftc) seeking to prohibit at least one rental car company from renting vehicles on which safety recall campaign remedies remain outstanding.the purpose of this audit query (aq) is to investigate recall remedy completion by rental car companies on the above-listed safety recall campaigns.these campaigns were chosen due to their inclusion of vehicles used in the rental market.this information is expected to provide the agency an indication of how completely and how quickly rental car fleets, in general or individually, perform necessary recall-related repairs or other remedies on the vehicles owned and then leased for use on the roadways.this aq is opened. | ||||||

| The vehicle was parked and when i went to open the door with the handle as usual it broke in my hand. i was unable to get out of the vehicle because of this. i have researched this matter and it has happened to a large amount of people. i feel that this is a flaw it the vehicle and the design of the door handle is poorly made. | |||

| Drivers side door handle snapped is now just hanging. in order to exit vehicle need to roll window down , open door from outside , roll window back up , then turn vehicle off. this is a hazard......in an emergency...if power goes out while in car...i will not be able to exit vehicle.... what if my electric window stops working...then i am stuck....not safe.... | |||

| I own a 2007 dodge nitro. the car is less four years old and i am having major repair problems already. i understand that wear and tear of a vechicle will result in repairs, but i have never had an ac compresser go out within four years. needless to say, dodge is refusing to fix the problem. i have researched the problem on line and their are countless dodge nitro customers with the same problem. if there is a defect with the compressor, it's not my responsibility to pay for it. dodge really needs to investigate this complaint. i requested to speak to a supervisor at dodge headquarters, and i was told that would not happen. the customer service representative went on to say the repairs would be my responsibility. | |||

| After filling up my 2007 dodge nitro gas spew out with force on myself and the side of the suv. when unlocking or locking my vehicle sometime the the cooling fan and radio will turn on. both of my back windows don't not work. | |||

| First repair: vehicle would jerk (as if it was shifting too hard) when going over bumps in the road and would stop (rpm gauge drops to 0, lose power steering, would have to coast to shoulder and re-start vehicle). fuel injector was replaced. second repair: vehicle would not start without several attempts, once it started it would stop driving (rpm gauge drops to 0, lose power steering, would have to coast to shoulder and re-start vehicle). relay was replaced. third repair (about to go back to shop tomorrow)- car started normally and then stopped while driving (rpm gauge drops to 0, lose power steering, would have to coast to shoulder and re-start vehicle). this is the third time in 2 weeks that the car has been in for servicing for the same problem, and the manufacturer's dealership cannot figure out what is wrong with the vehicle. this has become a major safety concern, as i do not know when the vehicle will stop unexpectedly while driving. i have rented a car until i can have my car repaired again, because i am afraid to drive my car. | |||

| With normal usage by two responsable adults, and no children, the front drivers side door handle made of plastic, broke as my husband was trying to exit the vehical. we bought this vehical new and have had reasionable service out of the vehical, there are how ever way to many plastic parts that have broken through no fault of our own. if the power should go out on the vehical where the window would not go down we would be trapped in the vehical, and heaven forbid a fire should break out. it is a life threatening problem and should be covered under your recall program an refitted with handles that will not break with normal usage. we have owned dodges for years and have never had the problems that we have experienced with this vehical... | |||

| Nhtsa complain report. done on 08082810 at 754am dodge nitro 2007, engine stalling when wet or just after raining - it happen already more than 10 times, went to dealer and they reprogrammed some electronic component, problem went away for a while. but now, not only car stalls, meaning engine shuts off but also the esp/bas, abs, and the skidding car icon lights all are on, suddenly brakes started pulsating when driving probably at about 30/25 mph, decided go back home before getting into the freeway which speed limit is 60/65, so after reading recalls at nhtsa official web page i am going today to the dealer for those two problems, and other one i found in same web page, thanks to the people that works for nhtsa for giving us all this information. | |||

| Uncontrolled accelleration of 2007 dodge nitro, w/3.7 litre, has happened 5 times in six months of owning . cant be fixed by dealer cause doesn't show code or able to duplicate when they have it , only way to stop it is to put in neutral and kill engine . have had other problems like idle rough and surging , and like someone turning key off and on for split second while driving at highway speeds. there has not been any pattern to when sudden acel happens , it has been random and can seemingly happen w/out notice. the dealer keeps telling me to keep driving it till it does it again so they can try to get codes or something to trouble shoot it. but this is very dangerous as you would think. im at a loss to what to do , i have contacted dodge complaint line and they don't seem to worried about my safety as it would seem , do to them wanting me to keep bringing it back to dealer . also no parts have been changed in order to try to correct ,only hook up scanner and drive around block and flash programs at it which has seemingly had ill affect on it as in my fuel mileage has went 23-24 highway to about 15-18 now, and they cant get it back where it was, now it is parked in driveway and family wont drive because scared of it, and i m still paying on vehicle that is unsafe and no idea how to fix , or dodge i should say, cant fix. *tr | |||
