2007 dodge nitro-automatic transmission-parking brake failure: vehicle at dealer for parking brake failing to engage. dealer finds that all parking brake components are rusted and frozen. dealer states appears parking brake has never engaged. dealer states issue has caused rust to form on inside of rear wheel rotors causing premature need for replacement. have noticed similar issues on web searches. item is not under warranty. alothough later models have recall, none for this year model. vehcile has 54000 miles on it and is well taken care of.

I own a 2007 dodge nitro. i purchased this vehicle new from cortez, co in september 2007. within a week of driving this vehicle, i noticed the emergency brakes were not working properly. i was parked on a small incline, pull the emergency brake and the vehicle rolled forward. i had to keep my foot on the brakes until we were ready to go again. i have to do this in other situations or just shut the vehicle completely off. there was a recall on this particular problem and it was recent, perhaps within the last 6 months. again, the emergency brakes are failing. i have not contacted the dealership again because of this because as before they would say i have to bring it in and get repairs at my cost. their explanation the first time a week after i got this vehicle was, normal wear and tear. the vehicle had less than 50 miles on it. *tr

Defect notice rcdnn-08v525-3946.pdf reports a defect in 2007 dodge nitro parking brake system affecting vehicle safety. the recall only involves vehicles with a manual transmission. it should also cover vehicles with automatic transmission, because the same defective parking brake part is used for both models, and the same defect is found on those with automatic transmissions- that is, the parking brake will not hold on those equipped with automatic transmissions. my 2007 nitro (w/automatic transmission) parking brake will not hold the car firmly while stopped on an incline, and the cause is exactly the same as for the manual- transmission-equipped nitros. the recall should include both models. my new york state inspection requires the parking brake to hold, for safety reasons, and dodge should be required to replace the defective part on my vehicle, as well as those owned by others, in order to keep them operating safely. a short online visit to dodgenitroforumz.com will confirm that there are many other nitro owners affected by this defect, yet dodge is only recalling the vehicles equipped with manual transmissions. the rest of have a useless parking brake. *tr
