Tl*the contact owns a 1998 dodge ram 1500 club cab. the contact stated that the vehicle has faulty brake lines. while driving 25 mph, the hard line failed. the brake lines were replaced once before. the contact stated that the weather conditions were not a factor, and she feels that this is a safety issue because it could lead to a serious crash. the current and failure mileages were 150,086.

Problems with wear of brake shoes. since i purchased my dodge ram 1500 in june 1998 i have had constant problems with my front brakes. i am having to replace them at least 3 times a year. i understand that normal wear and tear on this part but having to replace them this much in one year. i do not ride my brakes like i have been told i do. even riding my brakes i still do not think replacing them this much is necessary. *nm

From the day i saw that 96 dodge truck rolling down the street i fell in love. i saved every way possible to purchase the big bad 1500 4x4 5.9(98)with every option avail. had everything and from week 1 had problems. front windshield cracked while driving due to frame stress it about 2 weeks into it. brake failure cause serious assault on guard rail, and dodge said i must have been driving to fast (@ 30 mph). they refused any warranty because nothing can touch the wheel and since the incident occurred after 93 days lemon laws did not apply so after (2) $900 brake jobs two weeks apart everything was fine. not to mention damage to body i paid for out of pocket. now i just go through an entire set of brakes every 6 months. but i stop until then.. i replaced the transmission at 38 k miles, note the warranty on that is 36 k miles. i have had steering linkage become so loose instantaneously (or 3 separate occasions) that it felt like i was running over my own axle, which is another $1000 each time. for the past three emissions inspections the on board computer fails so i have to take it to the dealer while they charge $200 to fix it, but will not give straight answer to what is problem. and to night as i type, i spread the grime of engine crud across my keyboard as i try to figure out why the fuel filter suddenly stopped. amazingly i have had this truck for 5 years because it has kept me too broke to buy something else. any legal suggestions on what can be done would be appreciated. i recognize i have spent more than $15,000 trying to keep this thing running right, and that is too much for a late model truck. i would love to blame a dealer but i have been to just about all of them around here and with the smiles on there faces i hear that will be another $950 sir.. good grief. *nlm

I had a problem with the right brake ever since i bought the truck. i took it into the dodge dealer in victorville who told me that i did not have a recall so it would cost me to chnage the rotors since it was damaged. i just had my husband replace it with a new rotor which was very costly since i was not able to stop anymore because i had no brake pad on the inside of the right rotor since it has always been stuck and just finally wore out everything. *ak

I have contacted chrysler too many times about these problems, especially the brakes, which i admit is an intermettent problem. however i have demonstrated the problem to the service manager at riverhead dodge. no repairs were ever made. apparently after searching on the internet i find i am not the only one who has these same problems. how many people have to be hurt before dodge does something about this? does this have to evolve into another firestone problem before anything is done? *ak

After impact on the drivers side at the door, i turned the steering wheel to the right and it locked up, i applied the brakes and found that i had none. i traveled across three lanes of traffic (no brakes no steering) and hit a concrete barrier head-on at approximately 45mph, and the airbags did not deploy. had my steering not locked up this would have only been a minor accident, now my truck is totaled.*ak

The front brake pads required replacing at 16,000 miles, 8,500 miles before suggested maintenance. at 35,975 miles the front brake pads and rotors required replacing. dodge informed me this was normal wear, not within warranty and not considered a problem. they did not inform me of the tsb already released stating the known problem of early wear on front brake pads.

Brake pads wore prematurely at 18000 miles.thompson dodge who is doing the work said dodge will pay for parts but not labor which will be 100.00 labor.they also informed me the new pads are of a better design and should last between 40000 and 50000 miles under normal conditions.75%of the 18000 miles on my truck are highway miles so i feel that the pads should not have worn out so soon.i that dodge should reimberse me the 100.00 that i paid out of my pocket for labor.dodge's decision on this matter will dictate if my next vehicle purchase will be a dodge product. *ak

Front brakes rotors required replacement after only 20,000 miles. i have noticed other recalls on ram 1500 front disc brakes (rotor problems: fatigue but not on my particular vin). i also need to take the vehicle in yet again for the same problem only 5 days after initial repair! i love my dodge ram, but i feel there is something definitely wrong when myself and others have to replace brakes so early on a relatively new vehicle. perhaps chryslers recall # 788 should be reopened for further investigation?*ak
