ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

My 2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4 keep stalling when decelerating. the engine will start right up again when i turn the key but unless i keep my foot on the gas it dies again and again. it's always at low speeds like in a parking lot or approaching stop signs or red lights. this is very dangerous in traffic. i have had it to 3 different mechanics and we've replaced the alternator and the battery (twice on the battery) and it is still doing the same thing. sometimes it runs fine and then it just starts quitting on my. *tr

Tl-the contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 mph, the accelerator pedal became stuck after she depressed it. she depressed the brake pedal but the pedal was still stuck. she was able to pull over, shift into park and turn off the vehicle. the contact's husband inspected the vehicle and stated that the gasket from the carburetor became stuck inside the carburetor which caused the failure; he repaired it at that time. the contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. the current and failure mileages were approximately 126,000-bk

Dodge (2001) 1500 ram pickup (4x2) --- 1- major lower engine failure. engine oil pressure warning lamp activated followed by engine making ticking noise. in doing research, i have found that this oil pressure / major engine issues is common for the dodge ram. 2- second major dodge issue--- transmission had to be totally replaced. again, in doing research, i have found numerous documented issues with the 2001 dodge ram transmission failures..

Had to replace cylinder heads at 68000 miles, not due to wear and tear according to repair shop. 10 out of the last 12 dodge trucks into the shop have had to have the same thing done. i was told to keep my peperwork, because there is an obvious problem and they are seeing more and more dodge trucks with around the same mileage being brought in. repair shop feels there probably will be a recall on them. major problems with the dodge trucks.*ak

I purchased a 2001 dodge ram 1500 quad cab, vin # 1b7hc13761j577007, from fowler dodge in oklahoma city. the vehicle was sold as is with engine problems. upon taking the vehicle to a mechanic, i was told that it will need over $2000 in repairs in order to be safe and reliable. the problems are as follows: #1 engine cylinder has burnt valve, not creating adequate cylinder pressure #5 cylinder has burnt valve, not creating adequate pressure #8 cylinder has burnt valve, not creating any pressure brakes rotors require replacement transmission slipping between 1st and 2nd gear headlights operate in full high beam only, all the time. faulty headlght switch the mechanic i took the vehicle to has reccommended that i get a lawyer, write to you and chrysler and give fowler dodge a chance to make the repairs under good faith. the mechanic also stated that on numerous dodge ram maintenance forums, this is a common problem. i have seen these first hand and it is true. i have seen posts with people stating that their dealer told them there was a problem with the cylinder heads which lead to burnt valves, requiring cylinder head replacement.

I own a dodge ram 1500 sport 4x4 which has 6700 miles on it. at 3800 miles the transmission went out. mark thomas motors in albany said they will replace the transmission because there isn't a reason for it to have gone out, at no cost to me. at 67k miles both the engine heads were cracked from running to lean and advanced timing. that cost me $1000 and mark thomas motors again adjusted the cost. althought i have been treated extremely well from this dealership i should not have experienced these problems this soon. various forums discuss these topics in great detail. dodge has known of these issues and has never addressed the problems. i'm now waiting for my f250 to be delivered, i'm done with dodge for now.*ak

While driving the vehicle to college it just quit on me. it would not start again. i had it towed to the dealership where purchased and it is still under warranty.the next day they called and told me there was sludge build up in the engine and that it was locked up. they took a oil analysis test and said that we were liable for the damage caused by not having recommended oil changes. i have receipts showing oil changes but i was denied by chrysler any work done on it. in my experiance of having been around a mechanic the only way an engine locks up is if there are defects in the engine or there is no oil in the engine. there was oil in my engine and there are only 35,800 miles on my truck. now i am stuck with a truck still making payments on it and i have to replace my engine myself at my cost because chrysler doesnt want to fix it. i looked on the net and also found another person on there who has filed a complaint saying there was gunk build up. that odi number is 8015189. if there are any others out there please let me know. i would like to have the problem taken care of before i have to pay out of my pocket for something that the dealership or chrysler should have to fix because it is still under warranty.*ak

My truck has an engine miss, that is confirmed by the manufactures own engineers who say there is no known solution. dc refuses to honor their comittment and has failed in their so called attempts at repair. the clockspring has twice been replaced, first after it broke two days after the dc rep inspected my truck but refused to do anything with the concerns. second time was the recall 982 which was performed on 7/9/01. the noise in the steering wheel has since returned and the steering at times gets tight while turning right. the first clockspring that broke was also after the vehicle steering wheel was turned to the right. the brakes will shudder when coming to a stop, and the dealer replaced the rear drums at one point but refused to procede further. on 5/13/01 coming to an intersection the trucks rear tires locked up and the truck entered the intersection approx. 1/3 to 1/2 the length of the truck, on 11/17/01while returning home i noticed a burnt odor at the rear of the truck, a further inspection showed smoke coming from the wheels, touching the rear wheel it was extremely hot to the touch. so hot in fact i pulled my hand away before i was burnt. front tires still show extreme signs of wear , dealer has refused to do anything further. in fact dependable dodge of vero beach on 5/14/01 told me dc ordered that no further work be done on my truck. they in fact stated they will breach their warranty. *ak
