EXTERIOR LIGHTING
06/02/20111050191
Headlights were on high beam and dimmed lights and lost all of the headlights . it was early morning but there was enough light for me to slow and pull over to the side of the road. i kept moving the dimmer switch back and forth between high and low beam until the lights finally came back on. i left them in low beam and drove the rest of the way to work on low beam. when i got home later after work i waited till night time and pulled my truck into my car port and repeated what had happened on that morning. on about the fifth try the lights went out again , i then repeated flipping the dimmer switch back and forth between high and low beam and after many attempts was able to get the headlights back on. the next day took it to the dealer for repairs , they replaced the dimmer switch and the mechanic who worked on my truck told me that was no the first one he had replaced and told me i was very lucky. if it had failed in heavy traffic on a two lane highway and under darker night conditions and at a higher rate of speed i probably would have wrecked. i believe this is a design flaw. ## vin passed ## dodge ram 1500 ## *tr

I own a 2001 dodge ram 1500. this vehicle however, has a defect, the dashboard cracks and is starting to basically disintegrate. i however, am not the only one with these issues. as you can see on the forums and websites below. http://www.dashcover.com/dodgeramdash.html http://forums.motortrend.com/70/6297146/pickups-suvs/is-your-2001-dodge-ram-dash-falling-apart/index.html http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/ram_1500/2001/accessories-interior/cracked_dashboard.shtml http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/ram_1500/2001/accessories-interior/cracked_dashboard-2.shtml http://www.automotiveforums.com/t429358-cracked_dash_in_2001_2500_truck.html the failure is so common there are youtube videos on how to fix it temporarily: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7wfcxsy8xi i have seen quotes to get this fixed anywhere from 800 to 1500 dollars. absolutely absurd. some people are reporting that their dashboard is cracking and pieces are falling behind the dash and creating rattling noises and some even as severe as taking out electrical equipment causing headlight failure, ac failure, etc. despite all of these issues dodge will not issue a recall. one of my biggest concerns is if i were to get into an accident the dashboard could shatter sending sharp edged pieces of plastic towards me under high impact, which could lead to severe injury and/or death. i am highly concerned with this issue and i hope that by you showing interest on mine and others behalf we can resolve this.  The dash board on my 2001 dodge quadcab pickup truck 1500 is severely cracked. this is not the normal cracking that you may expect to see through normal wear and tear. it is a defect in the equipment. large gaping holes all over the dash. if the un-attached cracked sections were removed there would be no dash at all. *tr

When raining or high moisture the vehicle dies or will not start. driving down the interstate several times it started to rain and the truck engine stopped running. leaving me with no power steering and trying to pull off the highway in traffic. if raining or damp. when try to start, there is no such luck. we have to leave it sit in the drive unusable. when you turn the headlamps from high to low beam the lights go out. the engine light stays on most of the time. *tr

2001 dodge ram 1500; after driving long distances, the low beam head lights would not come on after turning off the truck and turning it back on. this has happened 5 times, usually after switching the lights on and off a few times and / or switching from low to high beam a few times the low beams will come back. the last time the low beams did not come back for 3 days. i went to the fairfield lithia dodge dealer to replace the head lamp switch, and they said there was a national back order on the light switches with the cargo dimmer/switch. they did not know when there would be any switches available. *tr

I purchased a 2001 dodge ram 1500 quad cab, vin # 1b7hc13761j577007, from fowler dodge in oklahoma city. the vehicle was sold as is with engine problems. upon taking the vehicle to a mechanic, i was told that it will need over $2000 in repairs in order to be safe and reliable. the problems are as follows: #1 engine cylinder has burnt valve, not creating adequate cylinder pressure #5 cylinder has burnt valve, not creating adequate pressure #8 cylinder has burnt valve, not creating any pressure brakes rotors require replacement transmission slipping between 1st and 2nd gear headlights operate in full high beam only, all the time. faulty headlght switch the mechanic i took the vehicle to has reccommended that i get a lawyer, write to you and chrysler and give fowler dodge a chance to make the repairs under good faith. the mechanic also stated that on numerous dodge ram maintenance forums, this is a common problem. i have seen these first hand and it is true. i have seen posts with people stating that their dealer told them there was a problem with the cylinder heads which lead to burnt valves, requiring cylinder head replacement.
