I was just driving along, crack my dash cracked from front end to almost the back. the crack caused me to jump swerve my truck almost causing an accident. dodge has been no help and my dash has deteriorated even more ever since, i'm getting very worried it might affect the air bags as all the dash pieces fall into the recess where the air bags are which would be a bad thing should there be an accident. *tr

Hi, i read an article by channel 6 news problem solvers in orlando, florida. that did a report on dashboards collapsing in 2002 dodge ram and other models. in the article, it showed that dodge was replacing the dashboards at a cost of $100 to the customer. 2 years after i bought my truck, my dash started cracking. a friend of mine had a 2003 quad cab and he was experiencing cracks in his dash in the exact same spots. a year later he traded his truck in and i still have mine. my dash is still continuing to crack to this day. since my dash started cracking, i have had other problems with my truck. my stereo is messing up. my a/c and blower motor don't work right. my heater core leaks. in summer time i have no a/c. in winter i have no heat and no window defroster. when it rains, i have no defroster. these are a safety issue if i cant see where im driving. for the past 2 years, i've been trying to get dodge to replace my dash. they will replace it only at full cost to me! will you finally force dodge into recalling these 01-04 dodge ram, dakota and durango dashboards???????????????????????. *tr

About 50% of the time when i turn the turn signal to the left the right side blinks. i have to turn them off and try again and it will work. the other day i was entering a on ramp and i signaled to the left and no one would let me in. i had to slow down so i wouldnt get ran off the road but almost got rear ended. i looked down and the right signal was on but the lever was to the left. i could have died. i have also noticed that the hazard button will not stay down. it is always popped up and the hazard flashers stay on and run the battery down. i have to take the button down so the battery wont drain.

Dash board has cracked and pieces are falling into the electrical unit and ac units underneath the dash area. afraid airbag will be damaged as they are not protected with the dash missing. ac unit on passanger side is damaged and not working due to the condenser housing unit being exposed. other electrical issues have occured like loss of function of the speedometer and all gages. called the ram specialist at 866.726.4636 was instructed not under warrenty and nothing they could do to help. it would be our responsibility to cover the cost of 926.00 plus tax at our dodge dealership. this is a manifactor defect that should be covered by dodge.

Have had a cracked dashboard for quite some time now, i have filed a complaint before and could not get a resolution from chrysler/dodge. my dashboard has cracked to pieces causing a safety hazard. finally my electrical systems have started to malfunction due to the pieces of my fallen dashboard falling on electrical components, there was a small short/fire that caused my cruise control to stop working and my dash lights also. i feel it has been long enough and something needs to be done before, someone not as lucky as me, gets really hurt from this safety hazard issue that has haunted us dodge ram owners for a long time. we need to get our dashboard replaced asap.

I own a 2202 dodge ram 1500 and my taillights/running lights suddenly stopped working. i was nearly rear ended by another vehicle. i checked with a technician and he stated this was a common problem due to moisture in the fuse box. it was going to cost me close to 1000.00 dollars to be repaired. the tech stated this should not happen and it is a manufacturing defect. he stated a replacement comes with a shield to protect it from shorting out. it sounds to me like this is a problem that dodge should be liable for since it is a manufacturing defect

I was driving home one night from shopping at walmart and was pulled over by the local law enforcement for not having any tail-lights on my 2002 dodge ram. come to find out , none of my parking lights worked, but the signal and brake lights did work. upon further investigation and a visit to the local dodge dealer to find out that the parking light circut had blown and i woulg need a new fuse box ($550.00) and a front control module ($250.00) and an hour and a half of labor ($133.50) + tax, totals close to $1000.00 to repair a defect that chrysler/dodge kwows about and has the diagnostic equipment to search for such a problem. according to the parts person at that same dodge dealer i went to, this a common problem with dodge trucks. from my investigation on the internet, i found i am not the only person with this problem and that this is not the only model year that has this problem. there should be a recall on chrysler/dodge's part before this result in an accident and/or loss of life on the road due to a faulty circut on a circut board. they are making money on an item that involves public safety.

2002 dodge ram 1500. dash has been cracking for last several years and i just now started researching on internet for fear of some electrical short or serious injury. this is an apparent very common defect with dodge, that dodge does not want to rectify. i've always used a sunvisor and tried my best to protect the dash and interior. 1. events leading up to failure - defect in materials used by dodge. 2. failure and occurrence - dash keeps cracking. 3. actions taken to correct - filing complaint.

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 4dr 4wd.i just had my truck inspected and all lighting worked fine.i was pulled over easter evening by a new york state trooper and notified that my rear lights were out including parrking, running, and license plate lights,as well as front running lights.i was informed to turn 4 way flashers on while driving at night to my destination.after checking all fuses, bulbs, relays and wiring are all good.when i checked for similiar problems via internet and my local mechanic and a dodge dealer i was notified that the fuse box would have to be replaced and the front control module.this is a part that should not go bad as you have to change the whole box for just lights going out, which dodge says is an unserviceable part that corrodes within a sealed box?and that has to be changed as a whole unit.there are numerous complaints via internet etc of this problem and that dodge will not budge to fix the problem that they are very aware of occuring.the consumer should not have to pay for this repair estimates are anywhere from $250 to over a $1000 dollars just to replace the defect.and also that dodge has a back order of these because of the numerous problems with them. the consequences are that the lights will go out without notice or a bulb out light being signalled theeby causing another vehicle to rearend or seriously injure someone without these lights at night.the trooper stated also that he has seen this before on dodge trucks.

Driving through a puddle after a rain storm, several safety features stopped functioning: wipers, turn signals, horn, headlight control. i'm not sure what else is not functioning but these have been verified. narrowed the problem down to the fcm (front control module). the fcm is connected to the ipm (integrated power module). come to find out the ipm is not sealed from the elements. the circuit board is exposed from the bottom which allows water to splash into the module thereby shorting the fcm. i believed dodge knows this is a poor design and is unsafe because i've read that they've designed a replacement ipm which is sealed from the elements. this is dangerous because of obvious reasons. *tr

The heater / ac fan became inoperative at anything other than the high speed setting. when i removed the fan speed resistor block i found the area to be packed with dry and burnt leaves and acorn caps, consistent with those from the coast live oak trees on my property and in my community. the resistor block power supply is equipped with a spring-loaded solder connection apparently designed to interrupt power if the circuit becomes hot enough to approach the melting point of the solder. the system partially worked by cutting power under extreme heat conditions. i feel though, that allowing a large quantity of combustible materials to enter and collect in an area where heat approaching the melting point of solder is present is unacceptable. i photographed and retained all of the dry tree material possible that was removed from the resistor / fan area. much of it was reduced to a black carbon powder. the volume would be approximately 50 cubic inches of loose material. i resoldered the spring-loaded connection and re-installed the resistor block. initial tests showed that it was operating correctly and cool to the touch. several hours of driving this past weekend produced the same results but i would like to replace the resistor. *tr

My 2002 dodge caravan has numerous electrical problems. the passenger and back windows only work intermittently. the inside door panel on the driver's side is also becoming loose. the air conditioner started only working on high speed. then it wouldn't work at all unless you giggled the key a certain way. now it won't work at all. these trucks have been subject to a recall for this issue. the electrical connector at the bottom of the steering column contains an under-sized terminal for the hvac blower motor circuit. per the recall

 1) interior blower fan: (24,000 miles) fan would shut off at times. first told by dealer the air intake was blocked with leaves and they cleaned it out. two weeks later, i got the recall that the wiring harness for the blower was overheating. i had the dealer do repair for recall. they clipped the two lighter wires and replaced them with two 10 gauge wires. fan still shuts off due to tilting steering wheel with heavier wiring not being flexible enough. wires still get very hot. 2) radiator fan control relay: (90,000 miles) check engine light came on and code was for radiator fan control relay circuit. relay was replaced. 3) engine: (129,000 miles) oil sludge caused oil not to circulate properly causing oil pressure gauge to drop to zero and back up to normal about 4 times. engine over heated, warping heads and doing interior damage to rods and bearings. engine had to be replaced with used engine. 4) passenger window switch: (for the past 20,000 miles) passenger side switch works intermittently. 5) parking lights: (149,000 miles) was informed by another driver that i had no tail lights. checked fuses and relay and everything was ok. took truck to garage, they checked and could not find a problem. garage called dodge dealership, they told them it would probably need the front control module replaced. the garage did not charge me and told me they did not want to just start replacing parts costing over $200 trying to pin point a problem and i needed to take it to the dealership. the dealership checked it and told me i would need to replace the power distribution module and the front control module due to both having an internal short. why bother having fuses if you can just have circuit boards costing over $200 each blow out? 6) ignition park lock: (149,000 miles) got a recall notice about ignition park lock needing replaced. dealership repaired. this truck definitely has its share off defects, with the engine and wiring. more should be done as far as recalls. *tr

I turned my fan on to cool the inside of the truck and after a few minutes, it shut off. a while later, i tried it again and it worked, but soon shut off again. i took the truck to the dealership and they told me they cleaned the air intake out and it was full of leaves. they told me that is why it shut off. the problem continued. a few weeks later, i got the recall notice about the wiring being too light and it was over heating. the dealer did the repair. it worked fine for a good while. eventually it started shutting off again. sometimes i could tilt the steering wheel to a different location and it would come back on. i flipped the access panel down to find the repair, they clipped the two lighter wires and plugged in to i believe 10 gauge wire in their place. the heavy wires are too stiff to flex and when pushed certain ways the fan shuts off. i also noticed where the wires are plugged in, the wires are so hot you can barely touch them. i don't feel this was a very good fix for the problem, since although the fan does not shut off due to overheating, it still is heating up under the dash and may cause a fire under the dash. *tr

Parking lights and tail lights do not function. lamp out indicator light on dash is not on. problem diagnosed to be in the fuse box circuit boards also known as the pdc (power distribution center). apparently corrosion occurs inside the box and the ground is lost. original equipment part number is 56045433ae. that part number is no longer available and has been replaced by part number 56045433af. neither part is available for purchase from dodge dealers. there depots also show no stock and they do not know when the part will be available. as the corrosion continues other electronic components of the vehicle could be lost resulting in a serious safety issue. *jb

I had an electrical problem with the instrument cluster, which caused all of my gauges to stop working. no speedometer, odometer, battery, oil or temperature gauge. my turn signals, horn, interior lights, wipers, and power door locks also failed. i also discovered that i had no stop/brake lights or fog lights, but had headlights and parking lights even though the interior switch was in the off position. even though this truck was purchased new in january of 2002 at jerrys dodge (now safford dodge, and the three year warranty was just up, i only had 7,078 miles on the truck at the time of the incident. the dealer replaced the cluster but i had to pay. i think this cluster suddenly going out is a major safety hazard. thank god mine went out in the day time and not at night. i could have been rear ended as it is. this is the fourth incident of a failed instrument cluster that i know of. i am sure there are more, and i have read that chryslerdaimler/dodge has had cluster problems in some of their other vehicles.*jb

The heater/ac fan will continue to operate with the ignition key removed from the lock. sometimes the circuit is energized immediately after the key is removed and at other times it energize's on its own. if not identified in time the fan will drain the vehicle battery. the local dodge dealer claims they are unable to duplicate the problem. i suspect the ignition lock/switch is probably defective and is causing this problem. *jb

Excessive cracks have formed in both dashboard pieces. the plastic has become very brittle and sharp pieces are beginning to fall into the wiring underneath. nothing particular happened that caused it, they just appeared overnight. conversations with the local dodge dealer and chrysler customer service yeilded no assistance. i am concerned of the sharp edges of the plastic falling into the dashboard wiring and causing electrical failures while driving or, in the event of an airbag deployment, shards of the shattering plastic impaling the driver or passenger. *cn

Entire gauge cluster failed. headlights and running lights came on with the switch in the off position. turn signals, emergency flashers and brake lights did not operate. electric locks did not operate. it has happened twice. the first time it corrected itself after checking all of the fuses. the second time it was taken to the dealership. the dealership has diagnosed a internal short in the gauge cluster with an expected repair cost of $900.00. *nm
