| The dashboard on my 2002 dodge ram 1500 has developed a crack (6-7 inches long) near the air bag of the passenger. i feel this to be a safety hazard as the air bag deployment could cause particles of plastic to be thrown at high speeds throughout the vehicle. the vehicle is a used ram and it is unknown if the crack was there prior to purchase or not. because of the summer heat, the vinyl expands which closes the gap and now the cold weather contracts it and reveals the crack. this continuous expanding and contracting could cause, over time, the vinyl to become weak and break down further. *tr | |||

| Hi, i read an article by channel 6 news problem solvers in orlando, florida. that did a report on dashboards collapsing in 2002 dodge ram and other models. in the article, it showed that dodge was replacing the dashboards at a cost of $100 to the customer. 2 years after i bought my truck, my dash started cracking. a friend of mine had a 2003 quad cab and he was experiencing cracks in his dash in the exact same spots. a year later he traded his truck in and i still have mine. my dash is still continuing to crack to this day. since my dash started cracking, i have had other problems with my truck. my stereo is messing up. my a/c and blower motor don't work right. my heater core leaks. in summer time i have no a/c. in winter i have no heat and no window defroster. when it rains, i have no defroster. these are a safety issue if i cant see where im driving. for the past 2 years, i've been trying to get dodge to replace my dash. they will replace it only at full cost to me! will you finally force dodge into recalling these 01-04 dodge ram, dakota and durango dashboards???????????????????????. *tr | |||

| Main dash began cracking in multiple places. forward dash panel has now cracked and split into many separate pieces creating loose, sharp, plastic materials which pose a safety hazard in the event of a crash. some of the pieces have cracked away and have fallen behind the instrument panel and some have fallen into the duct work as well. having occurred on many dodge rams, this creates a wide-spread safety issue and not just an isolated incident. i strongly feel that a recall should be issued on the affected years and the faulty dash panels should be replaced by the manufacturer to prevent any unnecessary injuries or safety concerns. *tr | |||

| The dash cap in my dodge ram 1500 has cracked in several places. this has caused many very sharp shards of plastic that would be extremely dangerous in a collision resulting in unnecessary injury to any passengers in the vehicle. i firmly believe this should trigger a full recall of all trucks affected. chrysler is aware of the problem and will not voluntarily start a recall. i myself have cut my fingers and hands just wiping off the dash board while cleaning. i beg of you to start an investigation before someone is injured very badly in an accident by these shards becoming projectiles. this problem affects hundreds of thousands of these trucks. please take this very seriously! *tr | |||

| Just what happened to the phase ram tough i've had my 2002 dodge ram 1500 since it was new; i had installed a carpeted dash cover a few months after i bought the truck so the dashboard would be protected from the sun. i even installed a retractable accordion style sunshade. in mid 2005, i was cleaning the interior and removed the cover only to find three cracks in my dashboard, since then i have noted more and more cracks with very sharp edges to the point that now i have holes with sharp edges and pieces of dashboard falling down inside the a/c ducts and into the wiring of the dash area, also i should mention that since these pieces have fallen into the ducts, my a/c unit is not working properly in that the internal doors to divert hot and cold air are being blocked by these broken pieces and no longer open or close. i feel that dodge needs to man up and put out a recall. look, i love my truck, it's my third one, and i've been a loyal customer for many many years. it's now time for dodge to show their loyalty to its customers!!! | |||

| The dash in my 2002 dodge ram 1500 began cracking in january 2010. it is now september and the rear trim section has four cracks which have allowed the center grill to fall inside the dash. the front or main dash has a crack perpendicular to the windshield over the glove box area. the center of the dash is cracked from the rear edge to the front leading edge and appears to be getting wider. what once appeared as a hairline crack now has widened and appears as though it is becoming very unstable. this type of dash while attractive should never have been used. the edges of these cracks are a very hard plastic and feel sharp. god forbid coming in contact with this material in a wreck. a padded type dash should have been used. did not do enough research before buying this vehicle. a recall by the manufacturer should be ordered. | |||

| My 2002 dodge ram 1500 has a cracked dash. there were no adverse conditions or abnormal events prior to the dash falling apart. after researching this issue, i have come to the conclusion that hundreds if not thousands of dodge owners are experiencing the same problem. i opened a case directly through the chrysler group llc. to correct the issue and they refused to help me. i find it hard to believe that a plastic dash that is cracking so badly that there are sharp exposed edges around the airbag is not a safety concern. i would like the nhtsa to follow up with chrysler about this issue and see what needs to be done to ensure that no one is injured by shrapnel from a defective dash. | |||

| I own a 2002 dodge ram 1500 and i have been noticing that the dash has been cracking and then it began to crack more to the point of having no dash at all. i don't think this is just a cosmetic defect it is a safety issue. it doesn't take a hoard of inspectors to see how this can cause damage to occupants in the truck. lets just forget about the safety issue for a second, after buying a dodge intrepid and have the motor fail at 60,000 and i said i will never buy another dodge, but i gave dodge a second chance because i liked the look of the truck inside and out. with that said i don't mind replacing the control arms where the ball joints are welded in, at a cost of 600.00 dollars. wish i would have looked at that too, but having to replace the dash is not justified as an expense that i should have to pay for. if i sold this truck to someone i know the first thing they would say, that doesn't look safe and makes you wonder what else is unsafe with the truck. it does make you wonder about the rest of the truck, did they cut corners on other parts of the vehicle? let me ask nhtsa when you get in your vehicle to go home after work and your dash started cracking, to the point of your speakers falling out when you hit the brakes would you feel safe. that's my story and i am sticking to it. *tr | |||

| Joining the group of people with cracked dash problems on our 2002 dodge ram 1500. over. 2 years ago, we noticed a crack on the front portion of the dash at the center of the windshield. this is separate to the main dash cover. now, we have a new crack near the right side air bag on the main portion. at best, it is unsightly for a vehicle as expensive as this. as a safety concern, who knows what would happen in an accident. the vehicle is garaged most of the time because it is a second vehicle. it appears a waste of time to talk to a dealership unless you have an extra $800 kicking around the wallet. if dodge/chrysler does not want to face up to the problem and the nhsta is not taking action,maybe some picketing of the dealerships and media investigative reporting should be done. is there any class actions pending? if not, it looks like there are enough people with the same problem to start one. *tr | |||

| Dashboard cracking, breaking, on my 2002 dodge ram 1500 quadcab. there have been rashes of this type of complaint on '01 dodge ram 1500's, i would like my '02 dodge ram to be included in any settlement, should there become a class action event brought against daimlerchrysler. here in central florida the sun degades many items of plastic type manufacture. i believe this is what has caused my problem with the deterioration of my dashboard, it could also be from something else in nature. i taped over the cracks with plastic tape, and bought a carpeted dash cover from jcwhitney, made for my '02 dodge pick up. in the mean time the little grille area over the center passenger defrost vent deteriorated to the extent that it fell into the vent. i fished it out, but it broke in my hands in the process of trying to retrieve it. by covering the dash, i have not seen a progression of the cracking, but i have to look at that 4x4 (approx.) sized hole every time i got to drive my truck. also, as reported on local tv the last two (2) nights, at least one of these faulty dash boards has failed, and is causing head lites to go off on their own while driving. i am a 100% disabled veteran, and use my truck to carry my elec.powerd scooter, every where i go, and do drive after dark. i do not need this kind of thing worrying me as i drive. *tr | |||

| Have had a cracked dashboard for quite some time now, i have filed a complaint before and could not get a resolution from chrysler/dodge. my dashboard has cracked to pieces causing a safety hazard. finally my electrical systems have started to malfunction due to the pieces of my fallen dashboard falling on electrical components, there was a small short/fire that caused my cruise control to stop working and my dash lights also. i feel it has been long enough and something needs to be done before, someone not as lucky as me, gets really hurt from this safety hazard issue that has haunted us dodge ram owners for a long time. we need to get our dashboard replaced asap. | |||

| 2002 dodge ram 1500. dashboard has cracked and is continuing to not only crack but to disintegrate. it has large holes in it where the plastic has fallen off leaving very sharp irregular sections. some pieces have fallen off, and some have fallen in,... into the ducts and cavities under the dashboard covering. i believe it is a danger to driver and especially to passenger of the vehicle in the event of an accident, crash or even a sudden stop. it affects the working of the front window defroster as some of the pieces have fallen into the ductwork. i have searched the internet and this is a widespread problem in all parts of the country. replacement of the dashboard is over $1000. i think that dodge should held be responsible for the shoddy materials used in the making of this dashboard. | |||

| Have had several problems with this vehicle. some haven't been reported to the dealer yet. the transmission problem has been happening since i've had the vehicle. it shifts hard at about 2200 rpm's or around 25-30mph. dealer can't duplicate. i've had other problems that were not listed including brakes and alternator. the drivers side door mirror has recently broken and now flops in the wind on the free way and is unusable. i filed a claim with my insurance company, then found that it was a huge problem with other owners of the same vehicle. the ventilation from the panel is aslo sent to the floor vents despite the dial being set to panel not floor. the tailgate cables are mismatched. the dealer told me that it was normal. i won't place anything on the tailgate in fear that the cable might break. the exterior turn signals are not synched with the displayed trun signals. the simultaneous flash is not there. also, the alternator was found to be defective at around 600 miles. it was causing a high pitched squeaking sound similar to what a defective belt may sound like. it was replaced, but started doing it again at 6750 miles. the hood has slight dents in it like someone hit it with a ball pen hammer. apparently chrysler knows about this. i'll be taking it in the first chance i get to try to have it fixed. i've had this truck a 3 different dealers in hope that the next one would be more help than the previous. no such luck. i've had to take time off from work (about 6 days total; had to wait at dealership since it was an out of town purchase ) and rent cars 5 times while having it worked on at a local dealership in order to get to work. i've had nothing but bad luck with this vehicle. daimler-chrysler has dreadful quality control and i can't say much more for the dealers. i hope i can get the issues with this truck resolved someday. dt | |||
