| The dash board develops major cracks and overall material breakdown exposing wiring under the dash for a possible catastrophic failure of safety and electrical systems due to inadvertent exposure (airbags, headlights, taillights, gauges, ignition, ventilation, etc) . it threatens the occupants (riders) with possible projectile shards of plastic if there is an accident, causing more damage than an impact itself. possible injury upon exiting the vehicle if a hand is placed in the dash area and it collapses. the integrity of the structure is faulty creating a unsafe environment. the cracks are not from abuse or mistreatment of the vehicle. the part is not a wear item that mechanically deteriorates over time. the vehicle is garaged and well kept regardless of mileage. inspected regularly, registered as individual use not a commercial vehicle. | |||

| My dash cracked on my 2003 dodge ram pickup above the air bag on passenger side front . my truck is well kept and covered when setting in the direct sun. i belong to a dodge club and several members are getting this fixed as a factory defect. i was directed to the ntsb to file a complaint ... i have two other dodge vehicles that are older and they are not cracked at all... many dashes i've seen are cracked in the exact same location as mine. right above the air bag on passenger side. most people that are experiencing this problem have had it start much sooner than mine which may be due to my truck being covered most of the time i would like to have this fixed before more cracks occur and someone gets cut on sharp plastic or even worse it may affect the air bag deployment. most seem to start with this and continue cracking all across the dash. *tr | |||

| While driving on the freeway, i heard aloud click sound. thought it was a rock hitting the glass. however, when i looked in the direction of the sound, i could see a crack spreading across the dashboard. this was not trauma related!! it just cracked all the way across and stopped when it came to the part of the dash that starts going downward. it is now slowly traveling down now, but will end soon when it gets to the next seam. it is cracked on the passenger side in one continuous crack traveling from the dash seam near the windshield straight out over the top of the glove compartment/air bag. i would expect this from an older truck but not a truck that is just over 3 yrs old. this is not the type of crack from the sun, it is an obvious defect!! wouldn't a crack like this effect the passenger airbag operation? i have talked to my dealer and chrysler and they say it is not covered. even with mymaximum care extended warranty. a new dash was quoted to me at $1800. | |||
