I was driving at freeway speed, around 70 mph. suddenly, i heard a noise from the rear of the truck and i noticed my speedometer went to zero. i was still moving at the same speed. the fault code identified a failure in the speed sensor in the rear differential. i was out of warranty, so i pulled the differential cover off and found what was left of the speed sensor in the bottom of the housing. i also found pieces of what was later identified as c clips from my lsd clutch assembly. the inductive portion of the speed sensor protrudes into the differential housing and was hit by the flying pieces of c clips. the carrier bearing also had a grove cut into it by these clips as they worked their way out. i am told that if i had not caught this, it would have resulted in carrier bearing failure and lock up of my rear axle. i removed all of the metal c clip pieces and removed the remaining c clips that had not yet fallen out. i don't know if there is any connection, but my left rear leaf spring cracked in half on the lower main leaf. i had to replace the spring assembly at my cost. i now have a permanent whine at low speeds and currently have 125,000 miles on my truck. i am certainly glad that i found these metal pieces when i did! there appears to be many complaints regarding this failure in my truck model, ranging from model years 2003 through 2006 ram 1500 equipped with the 5.7 hemi. at this time, chrysler has not acknowledged the patterned failures in these rear differentials. *tr

I bought an 04 ram 1500 5.7 hemi that had around 80k miles on it when i bought it in oct 2010. it was awesome the first and a half i had it, only minor repairs i.e battery, idler pulley, ignition switch. i did regular maintenance on it as well as oil changes. in late march 2012 i went to put gas in my truck and it would not let me put more than 10 or 15 cents in before it would back fill i was trying to figure out what the problem could be with that, then in early april 2012 i was driving home after running some errands, the truck had run great all day just like normal, but about 8 miles from house i hear this thunk and i have no power and i had this awful shaking and rattling noise. there were not even any warning lights telling we that there was something wrong, i called someone to tow it home that night. i did thankfully have another car to drive. in the months since i have been slowly tearing the engine apart with my dad, this week we finally pulled the heads and discovered that my # 6 piston was completely disintegrated and had punched a hole in my block! my original thought was that this was just a random fluke and it was just mine, but after reading on some dodge forums i see that it was not just mine! this is ridiculous for an engine that has no more miles than this and had been properly maintained. my parents have a 1999 ford f150 that has almost 300k on it and has not been maintained nearly as well... as my dad puts it it has been run hard and put up wet this engine has run like a champ! it even still has the original battery in it! there are many more reports of this happening to this engine both in the durango with that year hemi as well as the ram on this forum http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f1dd4b2/270. *tr

The drivers door lock just stuck in the locked position. i got out of the vehicle, locked it and walked into work, when i came out, the door would not unlock. it can not be opened by the remote key fob. it can not be opened by pulling the door lock latch. with substantial force you can turn the key enough to release the latch. the door will open from the inside handle only.

2004 dodge 1500 ram hemi 5.7 quad cab with faulty cruise control. turning on cruise control and off functions normally. selecting set on the left hand side of the steering wheel fails to engage cruise control desired speed with cruise control on. this happens 10-15 times out of 75-90 times selected during a period of a month. also, periodically during the 10-15 times a month, cruise control will be engaged with a current speed set, and while driving the truck slows down and prevents re-engagement of set on the left hand controller of the steering wheel while cruise control is still on. changed battery with no effect. throttle body is functioning normally. no blown fuses. seems that temperature extremes of 45 degrees or below and 90 degrees and higher heightens the effects of this deficiency. when turning ignition from off through intermediate to on position (not start) with trip button held in greater than 15 secs, c-code displays 67 15 then displays 00 00. truck has 66945 miles currently.

My 2004 dodge ram 1500 pick up with a 5.7 liter engine began to stall upon braking and coming to a stop. the engine would lose rpm and die (stall) leaving me with no brakes or steering. it would restart easily but occur again frequently. took the vehicle to a repair shop and after extensive and expensive diagnosis was found to have a failing throttle body and associated electrical failure. a new throttle body was obtained from dodge (different part number from original) and installed. total cost for the work was approximately $2,500.00. my research shows that this problem is extensive in this model and is dangerous.

The anti-lock brake controller in my 2004 dodge ram pickup truck caught fire and burned. the wiring harness completely melted through wires and all, and the brake control mechanism itself melted and burned. the part was inspected by chrysler but in their determination since i am the second owner of the vehicle they are not responsible for any repairs. the service manager at my local chrysler dealer has told me that he has seen this problem before, and i have been told by independent service tech's that this is definitely a manufacturers defect. that the braking controller is drawing more amperage than it should be. chrysler has told me that there is nothing more they will do in this situation. *tr

About 1 month ago the dash board lights and gauges started to act up so we carried it into the local dealership where we purchased the vehicle. they stated that there was condensation in the fuses. they said it was repaired and charged us about $100. then a few days ago it started to do it again. before we could take it back to be looked at it burst into flames in our driveway at 2 am on 3/2/09. fire dept. states that the fire started under the hood. i've been searching on the internet for an explanation and i've found that there was a recall on 2004 dodge ram's, a short circuit in the generator harness can cause under the hood fires! i've contacted the dealership and dodge customer service. they say that my vin # is not included in this recall. it seems like it should... our vehicle was purchased brand new, it had 5 miles on odometer when we left the lot. it had 68000+ miles when it burst into flames. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 dodge ram 1500. while driving 45mph the throttle stuck and the pedal extended to the floor. he was able put the vehicle in neutral; however, after starting the vehicle it accelerated without warning. the vehicle was towed and the dealer stated that the failure was due to a cracked battery. they also stated that there was a software problem with downloading the computer diagnosis to the vehicle. the insurance company stated that the vehicle shut off on 2 occasions when they attempted to start it. the insurance investigator stated that the failure was caused by acid leaking from the battery. they stated that the alternator could have caused the crack in the battery. the vehicle has been at the dealer for 2 months. they stated that the failure was electrical; however, the would need to remove as many components as possible to determine the failure. the cost for the repair was approximately $6,000. the dealer was unable to determine how long it would take to make the repair. the dealer stated that the repair was not covered under the warranty. the manufacturer stated that there was nothing they could do. the maintenance on the vehicle was up to date prior to the failure. the dealer replaced the throttle module, pcm unit, the electrical harness, the battery and the battery tray were replaced; however, the failure worseend. the current mileage was 53,235 and the failure mileage was 53,229.

My husband bought our 2004 dodge ram 1500 (hemi) in jan 2004 and has about 130,000 miles now. we had problems with the breaks and rotors just like every one else on here in march of 2005 when driving down the highway with cruise on and the truck lost all power. the rpm went to zero but the truck was still running . to get the rpm to come back on we would have to turn off the truck and restart the truck. every time the electrical light would come on, all while in traffic at 65-70 mph. this went on from march 2005- jan 2007. we have been to the dealer many times and they couldn't get any codes to come up. then in january 07 we got off the highway to stop at a store and had to make a left turn into the store. the truck made a loud pop noise and died. when my husband started the truck back up it was sputtering and wouldn't stay running without keeping the truck above 2000 rpms. i took the truck to my dad who is a robertson tire repair tech. he couldn't get any codes to come up. then about 45 min after letting the truck sit he ran the codes again and got about fifteen codes. we replaced all the sensors and it didn't help so went to the dealer again. they couldn't get any codes and couldn't tell us what was wrong. why it wouldn't stay running. so i just thought i would file my complaint and let everyone know what happens after its done stalling what happens next. i will not buy another dodge. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle stalled while coming to a stop and while idling. the dealership determined the seals in the electrical system of the transmission (wiring harness) leaked allowing water to get into the electrical system. the wiring to the wiring harness was corroded. the dealership cleaned several connectors and replaced a ground wire. the dealership informed the contact that if cleaning the connectors did not correct the problem, the entire wiring harness would have to be replaced.

Dt: consume rowned a 2004 dodge 1500 ram. sometimes it will stall while consumer was driving. once it caused the consumer to bump a brick wall. which caused a slight dent in the bumper. it has a vibration that seemed to be coming from the transmission. sometimes the vehicle will not start. the rear driver side door would not unlock. when the dealer ran a diagnostic test they said that it was not showing the codes for these problems. after five tries the dealer was able to get the door lock fixed. as for the other problems the dealer put a new computer in the vehicle. this fixed the problem for about a week, and then the problems came back. the manufacturer was the one that said to put the new computer in. *ak

I own a 2004 ram 1500. this is truck number 2 of this year and model. i am experiencing the same problems with this vehicle that i was with the last. 1. the rotors and brakes are wearing prematurely. 2. it has stalled on occasion usually when decelerating to make a turn. 3. the transmision will hit a flat spot when excelerator is depressed to the floorboard. 4. the radio does not display properly while opperating. it puts out jibberish of numbers and letters. i say this is truck number two because i went to the dealer where i bought the truck and complained of the same excact problems several times on truck one. they were less than helpfull blaming everything other than the truth. i tradded the first truck in and sited my problems with the vehicle. they then stated that it might have been a bad batch. they paid off the first truck and i bought the second one. now i regret that decision. i should have gone with my instincts and contacted my lawyer. because it is still the same problems in a different truck. that is not a lemmon its a poorly built truck fetching top dollar for their company, who will do nothing to correct the problem hopping we go away or out of warrenty!! .

Truck was purchased new, problem started about 1000 miles. truck stalls, usually happens at slower speeds such as when you remove your foot from the gas petal to turn. idle drops very quickly and the engine stalls. several times i have come close to hitting someone because the vehicle is hard to stop or turn when you loose power, you also loose the power steering and the brakes. i took it in and they did an update on my computer. update has not stopped this from happening. dealership has told me a new update will be out soon, but that was 5 weeks ago, and it still has not happened. in the meantime the vehicle still stalls out when you are moving!

The right lamps are not receiving the proper current, only receiving current while utilizing the park lamp. no brake, hazard or turn lights. ! using the test light i tested every fuse within the power distribution center which indicated in no failures or blown fuses. yet when utilizing the right blinker the relay has a muffled click that was barely audible unlike the left blinker where the relay sounded nice and strong with or without the trailer tow harnesses being utilized. upon research i found that this was a very common problem with various years of dodge lam?s. ii believe that this problem that varies in low or high mileage dodge truck?s needs to be addressed by the manufacturer due to the vast amount of complaints and queries for the same exact problems. i have been told by the dealer that the problem may be the integrated power module), $ 300.00 just so happens to control everything including most importantly the air bag system. *ak

While driving in rain my wipers often stop working on high speed which make it difficult to see in a down pour. also my blower fan for the a/c defroster heater etc. stops blowing when tilt wheel is moved to some positions. it has proceeded to the point of not blowing at all and sometimes will start blowing when i am not in my truck with the key out of the ignition. i was told by a dealer mechanic that it is a faulty ignition switch and that he has changed several. he said it is caused from the wiring harness hanging to loose and repeated tilting of the steering wheel causes the ignition switch to break and have a bad connection. this is also probably what causes some trucks to stall while driving. these are all very dangerous situations if they occur at certain times. *jb
