2004 dodge ram 1500 pickup, every winter i have owed this vehicle, the abs and brake warning system lights come on, warning of abs failure. each time it has been fixed the dealer has claimed it is due to moisture in the system....can't believe the same thing can happen over and over again. *tr

I also have a 2004 dodge that has had rotor damage for no apparent reason! i purchased my truck in 2007 with 56,000km. it now has 100,000km and i have had to have the rotors resurfaced twice and completely replaced once. i have also had the brakes done twice. my truck is only used for highway driving, never any towing or hauling and there is no feasible reason for the rotors to be wearing so quickly. i as well have a shudder in the front when breaking on the highway or over 50km/hr. i have had this checked and they cannot find a reason. a heads up to anyone with these trucks get your spindle nuts checked! i took my truck in because it had an odd squeak all of a sudden and they found that my spindle nut was extremely loose! if i had continued on the highway without getting it checked immediately i very well could've died as my entire front driver's side wheel would've apparently come off! also for those of you who have had unexplained stalls when driving get your egr valve checked. i had the same problem and that is what it turned out to be. i have not had any further problems since having it changed about 8 months ago. i love my truck and generally am a fan of dodge however this rotor issue needs to be addressed as it is obviously a defect. *tr

The anti-lock brake controller in my 2004 dodge ram pickup truck caught fire and burned. the wiring harness completely melted through wires and all, and the brake control mechanism itself melted and burned. the part was inspected by chrysler but in their determination since i am the second owner of the vehicle they are not responsible for any repairs. the service manager at my local chrysler dealer has told me that he has seen this problem before, and i have been told by independent service tech's that this is definitely a manufacturers defect. that the braking controller is drawing more amperage than it should be. chrysler has told me that there is nothing more they will do in this situation. *tr

My husband bought our 2004 dodge ram 1500 (hemi) in jan 2004 and has about 130,000 miles now. we had problems with the breaks and rotors just like every one else on here in march of 2005 when driving down the highway with cruise on and the truck lost all power. the rpm went to zero but the truck was still running . to get the rpm to come back on we would have to turn off the truck and restart the truck. every time the electrical light would come on, all while in traffic at 65-70 mph. this went on from march 2005- jan 2007. we have been to the dealer many times and they couldn't get any codes to come up. then in january 07 we got off the highway to stop at a store and had to make a left turn into the store. the truck made a loud pop noise and died. when my husband started the truck back up it was sputtering and wouldn't stay running without keeping the truck above 2000 rpms. i took the truck to my dad who is a robertson tire repair tech. he couldn't get any codes to come up. then about 45 min after letting the truck sit he ran the codes again and got about fifteen codes. we replaced all the sensors and it didn't help so went to the dealer again. they couldn't get any codes and couldn't tell us what was wrong. why it wouldn't stay running. so i just thought i would file my complaint and let everyone know what happens after its done stalling what happens next. i will not buy another dodge. *nm

There was no incident however a dangerous situation was caught and cured before an incident occurred. i own a 2004 dodge ram 1500 4x4. somewhere around the 13,000 mile mark on the truck i started noticing a shudder in the steering wheel while braking at highway speeds. i finally had my 15,000 service done at 18,697 miles. during that service i had the dealer look into the shudder. it was determined the front rotors were out of round and needed to be resurfaced. this is the issue. those rotors had absolutely no reason to need servicing at all with that low amount of miles on the truck. the truck had never been used for towing or any other heavy work or braking. there is definitely a manufacturer defect indicated. also, the dealer did not replace the brake pads when they resurfaced the rotors as according to the dealer, this was dodge policy on warranty work. however, according to ase standard, it is imperative to replace pads when resurfacing a rotor or to resurface the rotor when replacing the pads. i would suggest an investigation into the number rotor resurfacing services that have been performed on this model of dodge truck with less than 30,000 miles. disc brakes and rotors should last no less than 40,000 miles. *nm

8/11/04 i stated to the service rep that the brakes had a shimmy to them. the service tech stated that he would check them out. i left the truck at the dealership so that they could perform the service. i later received a call from the service tech, he stated that my rotors were warped and they would need turning at a cost of $160.00 or replacement all together. i asked why this was not covered under my warranty. his response was that the rotors are only covered up to 12k miles where i had 13000 miles on the vehicle i was out of the warranty range and that the rotor are a wear and tear item. i contacted dodge and this is how they replied: thank you for contacting daimlerchrysler concerning the brake rotors on your dodge ram 1500. rotors wear or warp for various reasons - road conditions, driving habits and even the weather can play a factor. additionally, rotors and pads are a wearable item, this is why they are warranted for 12 months or 12,000 miles. please review your warranty manual. i understand your frustration, particularly in view of both the cost and inconvenience involved. one way we are able to gauge what kind of problems our customers are having is through correspondence from owners such as yourself. your concern has been addressed. the manufacturer's defect warranty has expired, therefore, you are responsible for the repairs in question. thank you for your understanding, and have a good day. unacceptable. *ak

Dt*: the contact stated while driving under normal conditions and at any speed, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on 6 occasions for this problem. the first 3 times the vehicle was inspected, the problem could not be duplicated. on the fourth time the pcm, map sensor and the ngc controller were replaced. this corrected the problem for only a short period of time. the stalling returned and the vehicle was taken back for inspection two more times however, no repairs were made. there is also a problem with the transmission, it has been overhauled 2 times and the vehicle is still having engine hesitation problems. the vehicle was taken to the dealer 5 times due to the abs. when the brakes were applied the rear end of the vehicle pulsates. no repairs were made to the abs and the manufacturer was alerted.

Warped rotors at 9,000 and the front end jumps all over the road making it very dangerous to steer, the dealer resurfaced rotors and then at 13,000 miles it is happening again. we have complain several times about this and got no wear. now that our warranty is up i guess we get stuck replacing the rotors after paying 35,000.00 for our dodge, we are looking for a smaller suv also and will probably not buy another dodge, chrysler, product again. never had this problem with our tahoe @ over 60,000 miles.i think this is unfair to consumers! please help investagate this matter. p.s. i seen a adv.for dodge 2500 and it said largest brakes in class that is a joke!*ak

2004 dodge ram 1500 - brake rotor failure the brake rotors have failed 3 times on the vehicle. the rotors were failed by 9000 miles, 18000 miles, and 24000 miles. the dealer replaced the first two with oem equipment. dodge claims there is no problem and that this is considered a maintenance item. vehicle was driven almost exclusively on highway traffic for the 18000 to 24000 mile interval. the 24000 mile rotor replacement was done with performance aftermarket components. *jb

I have encountered a series of brake rotor failures on my 2004 dodge ram 1500 truck. dealer has twice turned the rotors and once replaced them and the truck has less than 30,000 miles. i was told today that the rotors are warped again and need to be replaced. this truck is not driven hard and there is no good explanation for this problem other than poor quality parts or repair. dodge will not warranty the brakes or their repairs to brakes. i have now spent over $400 at my local dodge dealer...and no satisfaction. this is my first and last dodge truck. hopefully nhtsa will investigate the problem and force dodge to act. *jb

At 15,000 miles on vehicle -- vibration, sometimes severe, when braking at speeds over 30 mph. dealer found all 4 rotors warped. after 3 trips back they performed repairs authorized by chrysler in technical service bulletin 05-001-05 (replace pads, hub, cut rotors). did not fix problem. dealer claims nothing else he can do.

Vehicle has approximately 16,000 miles on it. at approximately 11,000 miles, the brake rotors became warped. initially, the condition was barely noticeable and progressive escalated until it became a violent shudder. the rotors were resurfaced at the dealer at approx 12,300 miles (at my expense). the vehicle has again begun to show signs of this occuring. refer also to complaint numbers 10059615, 10087061, 10086270, and 10087061. *ak

I have a 2004 dodge ram that barely has 12,000 miles on it, and the rotors are already warped. the brakes are getting to the point that you can almost loose control of the vehicle even at low speeds. i haven't been to the dealer yet, but already know the likely out come. this has been a known problem with dodge/chrysler vehicles for years and continue to plague even the new models. there is an extremely large number of websites posting complaints on this very issue and dodge/chrysler has refused to do anything to correct the problem other than put on a quick band-aid. then they won't even do that after 12,000 miles. i previously owned a 99 grand cherokee with the same exact problem and am very disgruntled that it is still a problem almost 5 years later with the new vehicles. i do not think people are too happy spending 25k to 30000 on a vehicle that they have to take in and get the same thing fixed over and over every 6 -10k miles during the life of the vehicle. this is truly an issue that needs to be investigated extensively.*ak
