VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
02/25/201349500
Vehicle stalls when slowing down for a stop sign, traffic or red light or when turning.

2004 dodge 1500 ram hemi 5.7 quad cab with faulty cruise control. turning on cruise control and off functions normally. selecting set on the left hand side of the steering wheel fails to engage cruise control desired speed with cruise control on. this happens 10-15 times out of 75-90 times selected during a period of a month. also, periodically during the 10-15 times a month, cruise control will be engaged with a current speed set, and while driving the truck slows down and prevents re-engagement of set on the left hand controller of the steering wheel while cruise control is still on. changed battery with no effect. throttle body is functioning normally. no blown fuses. seems that temperature extremes of 45 degrees or below and 90 degrees and higher heightens the effects of this deficiency. when turning ignition from off through intermediate to on position (not start) with trip button held in greater than 15 secs, c-code displays 67 15 then displays 00 00. truck has 66945 miles currently.

2004 ram 1500 5.7 hemi stalls at low engine speeds, often at stop signs, traffic lights, or parking lot maneuvers. will usually start immediately back up, sometimes requires slight accelerator pressure when cranking in order to obtain self-sustaining engine speed. during decelerations, engine rpm is erratic and will often encounter a transient drop in rpm's to approximately 400 rpm before engine dies. issue seems to be more common and severe in cold weather, or when engine is cold, but has occured under all conditions. this has been a persistent problem for about two years, happening anywhere from once a day to a dozen times. multiple dealerships and mechanics have looked at this, without result. the computer has been updated, the sensors, egr valve, and intake manifold cleaned, and the throttle body has been replaced. still not fixed. vehicle has been well maintained and has less than 55k miles. this is an expensive, dangerous, and frustrating condition.

Vehicle was traveling at a slow speed and the engine quit without warning. the engine stalling usually occurred s in low speed situations, like in town driving. when the engine stalled power steering failed without warning. since that date the engine has quit a number of times, more than 10 times. it will restart after key was switched to off. i took the truck to a dealer on 2-28-07, and i was told the problem was with the throttle body. there were enough throttle bodies failing for these trucks that the supplier was out of units until almost a month later. also, i was a told that this part wasn't under warranty. the truck ran erratically at low throttle settings.*ak

2004, dodge ram 1500, 5.7l. truck will sometimes stall while slowing for a stop or turn. had the tsb 18-013-05a done by the dealer and the problem still exists. this is a dangerous problem especially into turns because the vehicle loses its power steering. *jb

Driving approx 35-40 mph speedometer will not show correct speed, and jump up and down. abs and brake light will not shut off, it has stalled on a few occasions, and has accelerated on its own while backing up. resulting in hitting a lamp post, and causing rear bumper to de dented and as well as some buckling in rear panel. *nm
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL - CRUISE CONTROL

My 2004 dodge ram would intermittently drop the cruise control when i hit the drivers side down button. i took it to the dealer several times and was told it wasn't throwing a code and they didn't know what was causing the issue. several months ago, after parking my vehicle in the garage, i woke up to discover the drivers door had caught fire. it sure looked to me that it started on the circuit board inside the door. the vehicle was totaled. *tr

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle's cruise control would not maintain speeds and would fluctuate up or down by 6 mph. the service dealer stated this was a normal issue with these vehicles and they could not fix the issue.

Cruise control will shut off if i use 2 or more of the power windows at the same time. cc will also shut completely off when you hit the brakes, not just disengage. took to local dealer and they said there isn't a fix for the problem but they also stated dodge is aware of the problem. this happened once with the window switch problem while i was passing a slow vehicle with my cruise on. i rolled up 2 windows and the cruise shut off during the pass.*jb
