ENGINE

Upon start-up of the vehicle a ticking noise is heard. this sound is less noticeable as the engine warms to normal operating temperature. similar cases have been seen in 2009 models caused by broken or loose exhaust manifold bolts for cylinders 7 and 8. contacted the dealer but they stated my vehicle was not affected by that recall even though it is the same year and engine type.

I pulled into work and shut my truck off, but the engine did not turn off. the truck was in park and the key to the truck was in my hand and the engine continued to run. i pulled the battery terminals off the battery and the truck continued to run. the truck ran while i was in work without the key in the ignition and the battery terminals disconnected. when i was done at work the truck was still running in the parking lot. i drove the truck home disconnected the battery terminals again and began pulling fuses out of the fuse box one by one until the truck finally shut off. *tr

Exhaust manifold bolts (as now known under dodge tsb same subject) are defective and of wrong material type as per tsb. bolts may fail causing exhaust leak at manifold to engine gasket, allowing exhaust fumes to enter the cabin. noxious fumes in cabin may cause driver to become poisoned over long trip times resulting in loss of consciousness and vehicle control or situational awareness. failure of bolts also allows release of pre-catalyst exhaust to be discharged into the atmosphere. contact:[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
