Defect SummaryVehicle description: pickup trucks equipped with optional trailer hitch. the trailer hitch side brackets were manufactured using material with insufficient strength.
Consequence SummaryBrackets built without proper material could fatigue and fracture in the area where the trailer hitch mounts to the frame.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect the trailer hitches and replace any trailer hitch showing signs of fatigue cracking. if no evidence of cracking exists, the dealer will install two reinforcement brackets.

 Dealership failed to install the reinforcement brackets as stated in the trailer hitch recall 00v107000, but told the consumer they did. upon inspection of the vehicle by the consumer he determined that nothing was installed, and took the vehicle back to the manufacturer, and brought the issue to their attention. then, dealership replaced the part, but gave no reason why the part wasn't replaced the first time as they had indicated.*ak
 Dealer told consumer it would be at least two months before they could schedule a time to look at vehicle for recall 00v-107, dealer did not bother to inspect for crack while the consumer was there, the consumer lives 125 miles from the dealer. nlm

 Consumer took vehicle to dealer to have hitch recall 00v-107 performed, dealer indicated that before this could be done there would be a charge for the removal of the custom exhaust so the hitch could be fixed consumer reluctantly agreed but feels she should not have paid for the removal of the exhaust. nlm

 Dealer refused to honor manufacturer's recalls notice concerning a sliding camper being attached to the vehicle. seeking help from nhtsa on this matter.*ak

 While towing a trailer hitch bent. then consumer received recall 00v107000 concerning trailer hitch bracket cracking due to fatigue. dealer could not replace hitch because it was not cracked. they could put a bracket on according to the recall. consumer felt this was unsafe. also, when using anti-lock brakes, consumer would lose braking power if going over a bump or over some gravel. *ak
