Fuel filter assembly. fuel heater element wires deteriorated and fuel began to leak through seal around wires. i noticed the smell of fuel and upon investigating found the shorted wires evaporating/burning the fuel collected around them. the assembly was tooo hot to touch. after contacting dodge i was told that the unit was discontinued and a new kit was available for replacement at a cost of approximately $1300. *tr

Fuel injector pump failed just before entering the freeway, was towing stock trailer when i lost all power. had to have the 1999 dodge 2500 diesel towed along with the stock trailer, the cost is $3150.00 for the fuel injector and $124.00 for towing. i searched the internet and found numerous complaints on this same issue and not only on the 1999 model, so i called dodge to find out if there was a recall issued, the answer was no! i believe this is a safety issue especially when you loose all power, we were lucky that we had not entered the freeway yet we were still on the on-ramp and it was not safe with the 18-wheelers and other vehicles increasing their speed to enter the freeway. i believe the manufacture should be responsible for the cost not me. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 2500. while driving 60 mph, the engine lost all power. the power steering and brakes completely failed. the vehicle eventually stopped on its own without a crash. the vehicle was towed to the repair shop where it was discovered that the fuel pump and injection pump needed to be replaced. the current and failure mileages were 136,000.

Fuel injector pump stopped working and from all of information i found it seemed to me it should have been a recall. we had a accident in 2005 from the stalling of the pump, and was told by the body shop it was the cause of the wreck. we have spent money on sensors trying to repair to finally be told that the vp-44 code was the fuel injector pump, and will need to be replace and that certain companies have made a special part to repair this and could prevent this from happening. why can't dodge repair? does it take someone to die just to get something repair right, which should have been done during the making of the product? *tr

Towing a 6000 lbs trailer up hill when fuel injection pump stalled caused truck to stop. word is that its not a recall, but should be. happens a to a lot of dodge trucks. luckily there was a shoulder to pull off to. lucky us we were not going down hill!!! *jb

Driving n.w. on a 4 lane road, my truck suddenly had no acceleration, i pulled into the median. i found out my fuel transfer pump had failed, causing the fuel injector pump to also fail because of lack of fuel. i found out the hard way that there is an after market sensor that could have prevented the damage done to the fuel injector pump. cost to consumer: $340.00 for a fuel transfer pump and $1,590.62 for the fuel injector pump. cost of the sensor $60.00. shame on chrysler! my 1999 dodge ram 24 value diesel had 94,891 miles but the warranty was out in years.

Dodge ram lift pump failures failure of fuel system fuel oil transfer pump (lift pump) leads to immediate engine stalling. when towing (as which truck is designed for), upon engine shutdown at hwy speeds, immediate loss of power brake and steering performance. this leads to loss of control of trailer and/or load. property damage and fatalities would be dependent upon drivers experience level while towing. mfg (damilerchysler) knows of the problem, in some cases will replace pump dependent upon detailed proof from vehicle owner. not all dealers following company policy and is will actually flat refuse to address that a problem exists, even though the mfc has issued a tech service bulletin (tsb). *nlm

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 65 mph the fuel pump failed without warning. this caused the vehicle to loose all power. the vehicle was coasted off the road without incident and then towed to an independent repair shop. although the fuel pump was replaced the mechanic was unable to determine what caused the failure. the manufacturer was alerted.

The vehicle stall while driving 55-60 mph. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed the failure as a failed fuel transfer pump. please provide any further information. *jb

Vehicle stalled while driving. consumer stated that the fuel pump was corroded, and replaced it. *ak the engine had shaken harshly when it stalled. the vehicle was difficult to steer the over to the shoulder. the consumer found a positive wire on the fuel transfer lift pump had corroded and broken off causing the engine to stall. the wires for the transfer lift pump had no protective cover and were exposed to the elements. chrysler redesigned the fuel pump. *sc

Failure of rubber gasoline fuel lines between the right and left fuel rail. there are no clamps and it is rubber line that sits under the air cleaner assembly which can rub against the line, causing it to seperate and expose gas. *ak

I have a 199 dodge quad-cad 2500 cummins diesel 4x4 truck. on 6-5-03 my truck die while i was driving it. at the dodge dealer they told me my fuel lift pump was bad (cost $255.00) they replaced it then called me 3 days later and said my fuel injection pump was bad (cost $1700.00). when the fuel lift pump goes out it causes the fuel injection pump to go out because it runs dry of fuel which causes it to go bad. so why don't dodge cummins put a relay in there that shuts down the fuel system when the fuel lift pumps stops working. so instead of a $450 bill now i have $2400 bill instead. *jb

Vehicle is experiencing problems with the power steering, it locks up while driving and loses power steering while sitting still and without foot on brake, dealer has replaced the power steering pump twice, power steering gear box, installed a vacuum booster, and installed power steering lines, however vehicle still experiences problems. fuel leveling unit was replaced and the sending unit was also replaced, dealer also replaced the instrument cluster due to a faulty fuel gauge. consumer felt pulsation in brakes, dealer found rear drums warped and rotors out of round. *slc

I have a 1999 dodge ram 2500 with a 5.9l engine. it has 57000 miles on it. for the third time in 3 years it has developed an intake manifold leak. this causes it to lose power at highway speeds and consume oil. this problem occurred at 35000, 47000 and 57000 miles. chrysler paid for the first 2 repairs but will not pay for this one or any others that may occur. many owners of these trucks with this motor have informed me that they have had similar problems yet everyone associated with chrysler continues to tell me that it is not a common problem. i'm looking for help in pressuring chrysler to take care of this common problem. thank you

1999 dodge cummins diesel had the lift pump fail and took out my injector pump because it starved it of diesel fuel do to the falure of the lift pump. i had a new lift pump installed and a rebuilt injector pump installed.*ak i understand this is a very common problem wit the electric lift pumps i talked to several mechanics who said they see it happen all the time. very costly fix!

While traveling down a city street in heavy mid-day traffic, my 1999 dodge ram 2500 4x4 pick-up truck stopped running. i had no warning. one second the vehicle was running fine and the next second it was dead. since it is a cummins turbo diesel equipped truck, i lost power steering and power brake assist. luckily, i was able to wrestle the steering wheel and guide the truck into a mostly empty parking lot with the vehicle's momentum. i had to apply great force to the brake pedal to bring the vehicle to a stop. my biggest concern is, if my wife had been driving instead of me, the loss of power steering and brake assist would have greatly enhanced the chance of a crash and/or personal injury. the problem which caused the engine to stop running turned out to be the inoperative bosch vp-44 injection pump. a re-manufactured pump is the only form of repair available for these vehicles. after much internet research, i have found that the vp-44 injection pump is notoriously unreliable and extremely failure-prone. i feel that daimler-chrysler should be held responsible for repairing these vehicles with a more reliable injection pump and/or refunding money spent by owners on repairing this issue. this is a very serious safety issue that the nhtsa should become involved in. *jb
