Defect SummaryChrysler is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 dodge ram 2500/3500 4x4, manufactured from february 14, 2008, through march 28, 2011; model year 2008-2011 dodge ram 3500 cab chassis 4x2, manufactured from february 14, 2008, through march 28, 2011; and model year 2008 dodge ram 1500 mega cab 4x4, manufactured from february 14, 2008, through august 15, 2008, because the left tie rod ball stud may fracture. this condition tends to occur during low speed parking lot type maneuvers when the customer is making a tight turn. additionally, model year 2003-2008 dodge ram 2500/3500 vehicles may have received the affected tie rod assembly as a replacement part during normal service.
Consequence SummaryThis condition could result in the potential loss of directional stability in the left hand front wheel, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect the tie rod ends for relative orientation and replace the left outer tie rod as required and perform a front end toe alignment as needed. this service will be performed free of charge. the safety recall began on october 3, 2011. owners may contact chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

 Tl-the contact owns a 2005 dodge ram3500. while driving at approximately 35 mph the steering wheel became very stiff. the vehicle was pulled over and towed to an authorized dealer where he was informed all of the mechanisms within the steering system were obsolete. the vehicle was repaired. the failure and current mileages were 54,000. sm.

 Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge ram 350. the contact was driving approximately 30 mph, suddenly, the vehicle traveled across the road without warning. the contact was able to gain control of the vehicle. when the vehicle came to a complete stop, the tie rod detached from the passenger side of the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the tie rod, drags and links were replaced. the vehicle was inspected at an authorized dealer prior to the failure. the failure and current mileages were 87,900.

 2005 dodge ram 3500 4x4 laramie hit a rough seam in the road causing the front of the vehicle to shimmy. *kb ***nar*** the shimmy was so severe that the consumer had to apply the brakes and bring the vehicle to almost a complete stop. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who replaced a worn inner tie rod end and steering shock. the consuemr requested reimbursement form the manufacture. *nm
