Defect SummaryChrysler is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 dodge ram 2500/3500 4x4, manufactured from february 14, 2008, through march 28, 2011; model year 2008-2011 dodge ram 3500 cab chassis 4x2, manufactured from february 14, 2008, through march 28, 2011; and model year 2008 dodge ram 1500 mega cab 4x4, manufactured from february 14, 2008, through august 15, 2008, because the left tie rod ball stud may fracture. this condition tends to occur during low speed parking lot type maneuvers when the customer is making a tight turn. additionally, model year 2003-2008 dodge ram 2500/3500 vehicles may have received the affected tie rod assembly as a replacement part during normal service.
Consequence SummaryThis condition could result in the potential loss of directional stability in the left hand front wheel, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect the tie rod ends for relative orientation and replace the left outer tie rod as required and perform a front end toe alignment as needed. this service will be performed free of charge. the safety recall began on october 3, 2011. owners may contact chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

On december 23, 2010 chrysler recalled (10v-657) certain 2008-2011 ram 4500 & 5500 vehicles for left (driver) side outer tie rod ball stud shear due to misalignment.the vehicles may experience a weakening and fracture of the left ball stud on the tie rod resulting in the potential loss of directional stability.odi is aware of 12 complaints of similar failures on 2008-2011 ram 2500 & 3500 vehicles.a preliminary evaluation has been opened to assess ball joint related issues on the subject vehicles.this investigation will determine if the subject vehicles have a similar steering system design that might also present a risk of ball joint failure.

Vehicle began making a hissing noise in the area under the dashboard on the driver's side. while the engine speed was maintained above 1500 there are no noticed drivability issues. when the brake is depressed or the steering wheel turned the hissing ceased. hissing independent of engine speed. while driving at about 35 mph the vehicle's power steering and power brakes failed while entering a turn. to avoid an accident i was surprisingly required to use excessive force to turn the steering wheel while stomping the brake to slow the vehicle. the cause is a small plastic insert in the hydro assist hose that breaks loose and then moves along the hose until it gets pressed into a 90 degree angle cutting off or reducing the fluid flow. *tr

I have a 2010 dodge 3500. while backing in to a parking space at work the driver side tie rod broke off. i had the recall done almost one year ago' went to dealership and got new tie rod end and put on my self.funny thing is the new part had same part number a was made in mexico. so i am assuming it is the same as the one that broke. i have had the (death wobble) since it was new .had it in shop many times and can not get it fixed. would like to see a recall. 51,000 dollars for a new truck that you cant keep on your side of the road! *tr

Upon hitting a bump, hump, or hole in the pavement while driving at highway speeds the steering wheel begins to vibrate and move side to side unexpectedly; the front end of the truck shakes and bounces violently until speed reduces to near stop. brakes and steering are near ineffective until the violent shaking stops. it feels as if the whole front end is about to break loose from the vehicle, and driver control is severely compromised. this has happened 8-10 times in two years of ownership. it is always unexpected with no warning. i have become very uneasy about road trips in this vehicle. i am about to take it to a dodge dealership one more time as the problem occurred again two days ago. i have only 700 miles of warranty left. past trips to dodge dealerships have given no relief with the comment always being we could not get the problem to occur when we test drove the truck, and all front suspension tolerances are correct. *tr

After accelerating on an interstate highway on-ramp, the vehicle went over some bumps then started shaking violently at about 45 mph. there was a complete loss of steering as the truck vibrated and shook across lanes, but i was able to somehow avoid collisions with other vehicles and safely pull off the highway. after stopping and finding nothing wrong, the vehicle was slowly accelerated to interstate speed and driven another 300 miles to destination without further incident. a few days later, a tucson dodge dealer inspected the truck and found two issues. first, the front steering damper was found to be defective and was replaced under warranty. the second item, an imbalanced front driver's side wheel, was found and corrected. the problem has not reoccurred, but i am extremely nervous about the event repeating itself, particularly if it happens when pulling a 5th wheel trailer. i am not confident that that the violent shaking of the vehicle and loss of steering was caused by a defective steering dampener and a slightly out-of-balance front wheel. this problem, an apparently somewhat widespread occurrence among dodge trucks, has been widely reported as the death wobble throughout the past 8 years or so. my understanding is that it had been fixed recently through suspension changes by chrysler engineers, but obviously not.

Left front tie rod broke at low-speed parking lot type turning maneuvers. dodge will not cover this according to there hotline because the build dates don't match there recall dates. this recall needs to be expanded to more vehicles.

 1. was backing up 2. left tie rod broke (believe fracture of left ball stud), resulted in loss of steering 3. dodge replaced part with the same - concerned failure could occur again and if at higher speed could this could lead to severe injury or fatalities

I have a 2010 dodge 3500 heavy duty that starts wobbling form right to left as i am traveling along the highway at any speed above 50 mph whenever the truck encounters an uneven surface all of a sudden. a pot hole or a bump in the road will also cause it to start wobbling from the front like crazy. the dealer states that there is nothing wrong with the truck, but there is definitely something wrong with it.
