Tl- the contact owns a 2005 dodge ram 3500 quad. while attempting to make a left turn, the contact heard a loud clicking noise when he noticed that all wheels were parallel to one another; however, the steering wheel was upside down and became difficult to steer similar to nhtsa campaign id number: 10e013000 ( steering:gear box:shaft pitman). the contact informed the dealer that he was hearing a loud clicking noise prior to the incident who inspected the vehicle but was unable to duplicate a failure. the manufacturer was notified and the contact was awaiting a response. the vehicle had not been repaired due to cost. the current and failure mileages were approximately 120,000. bw

I just purchased a dodge ram 3500 4wd drw, from a dealership 200 miles away. on the way home i drove over a bridge on the highway and the truck went into a violent shake that was close to being uncontrollable. it did it 2 more times that night. everytime i drive over 55mph and hit a bump it sets what is called the death wobble off. i have replaced steering stabilizer with a larger one, new track bar bushings, outer tie rod end, had the wheels and tires checked and balanced, and an alignment done. it has been to the dodge dealership, a big truck alignment shop, and a 4wheel drive shop. all of them said it checks out good but they know there is a problem. everyone who has drove it comes back scared! this is a vehicle that could really cause a bad accident if not controlled or fixed. the dealers are aware of this problem and say it is a design flaw. dodge needs to recall this problem before someone is injured or killed.

My 2005 dodge ram 3500 began to have a problem with the steering beginning may 6, 2010. while turning, the steering wheel would jerk back and forth. it then became very hard to turn the wheel and felt like it didn't have power steering. took the truck to mechanic on may 13, 2010 and had to have the steering gear box replaced. the mechanic stated that he has seen this same problem with several dodge trucks recently and all had bad steering gear boxes.

Dt: consumer stated steering box malfunctioned. when turning the wheel, it didn't turn straighten back up on its own. consumer took vehicle to the service department. also, contacted daimler chrysler, and was told they did not hear of the problem. had to take the vehicle to a dealer and have a diagnostic test done to find out if they could help with the problem. consumer noticed the problem june 28, 2005. he has a friend who has the same vehicle, and took vehicle to the service department. he felt it was the same problem with his vehicle. when the vehicle failed it continued to drive, but it was like driving a vehicle without power steering, and it got harder the farther it was driven.*ak |
