Driving freeway at 70mph, all of a sudden the engine does what seems like a stall, quickly dropping down to 35mph and continues to slow down as we maneuvered to side if road. this was very close to causing the semi trucks behind us to rear-end us. we pulled over, driving off the freeway at 15mph with hazards on. stopped at a truck stop (i am a female here, so safety was a concern) and proceeded to talk to insurance company/try to find a dodge dealership who actually could work on these specific sprinter engines. after much trouble, end result is the vehicle ends up at a certified dodge dealership who is very aware of this common problem among sprinters (deals with this same issue constantly). it is the turbo resonator that is a faulty plastic piece that often and frequently breaks on these vehicles. the only thing the dealership can do under warranty is replace the faulty piece with a new, same, will ultimately cause the same problem again, plastic piece! why it has not been corrected/recalled by dodge or mercedes is outrageous and is unacceptable. this vehicle put me and my family at great risk because of something that can be corrected, a $5 piece of plastic!?! i would hate to have a family member writing this for me because of a preventable accident occurring, so i ask, please look into this. i know i'm not the only one with this issue, i have seen tons of sprinter owners with the exact problem. thank you for your time.
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING - ENGINE
05/12/200698001
The 2006 sprinter van sold under the dodge and freightliner brand (made by mercedes) has a serious defect that causes an immediate loss of power. this is caused by a failure of the resonator, a plastic part that is part of the air intake for the turbo charger. the sole purpose of this part is to reduce the whine of the turbocharger. the part is molded plastic, and it fails between where the two parts are molded. when it fails, the engine computer thinks a catastrophic failure has occurred, and puts the engine in limp home mode, with an immediate loss of power. if passing, or going uphill, the car will behave as if the accelerator has been reduced to zero power resulting in a rapid deceleration. if passing, there is not sufficient power to complete the pass. uphill maximum speed is about 20 to 35 mph, even with a full throttle. this defect affects all 2006 sprinter vans with the 2.7 litre engine. many rv's are built on this platform, including roadtrek, pleasure way, leisure way, great western, and others. the vehicle is also use by many delivery services. this is serious defect that could result in death or injury and is not an isolated issue. mine failed at 9800 miles. reports of others failing within 2000 miles and repeated failures after replacement. mine failed when going 65 on a straight and level road. had it occurred when passing, i could have been easily killed. the failure occurred after i took the vehicle in and had the dealer check the resonator before a long trip. the failure occurred without any warning. *tr

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
09/28/20072000403/15/2007
I have been made aware of the fact that model year 2007 dodge sprinter vans have two serious product defects: 1.a defective fuel gauge which apparently reads half full when the vehicle runs out of gasoline. 2.very low fuel economy of about 5 mpg rather than the expected 15 mpg. the combination of high gas consumption and a defective fuel gauge results in the vehicle unexpectedly stopping when the gasoline tank is empty. i am aware of four vehicles operated by a small company in chicago all of which have this problem. both the dealer, sherman dodge in skokie, il and chrysler llc have been aware of the defects for over a month. i personally have over 38 years of business experience (13 as a consultant) in the commercial vehicle industry including experience as an engineer and expert witness in personal injury cases involving potential product defects. based on my years of experience, it is my professional opinion that the product defects on these vehicles represent a serious risk of personal injury or death to the owners and drivers of these vehicles, as well as, other people who may encounter one of these stalled vehicles. these vehicles are unexpectedly stalling on the busy streets and expressways in chicago. the driver may not have the time or opportunity to maneuver the vehicle to a safe location before it rolls to a stop. other company employees are hauling gasoline in cans in their vehicles to rescue these stalled vehicles. hauling gasoline in a can, in a vehicle is not a good situation. standing on a busy street or expressway with trucks and car speeding past while pour gasoline from a can into one of these stalled defective sprinters is very risky. i believe it is only a matter of time before a serious accident happens as a result of one of these dodge sprinters stalling unexpectedly. action should be taken immediately to correct these product defects before someone is seriously injured. *tr
TIRES
08/15/2008420001
I got separations in a size of a 1/2 - 1 inch on the driver front tire, look like they are cut out with a knife all around the tire. all the other tires have the same thing, but not as big. some parts already flow away. the rubber feels like it lost the softener and goes very hard. just by random, i have seen it. i already changed the tires to new ones, but i saved 2 tires of the damaged tires. *tr
TIRES - VALVE
03/31/2008109/20/2007
Accident waiting to happen. winnebago industries markets the navion motor home and the user cannot easily and routinely check the air pressure in the dual rear tires because winnebago covered up the valve stems with wheel covers---to check pressure one must secure a variety of tools and remove the wheel covers to gain access. this is difficult and the result is that owners will not routinely check the air pressure to be assured of safe operation. *tr

I left for vacation october 15, 2010 and have a loss of power , can't go over 55mph, which is good for saving diesal fuel but not for wanting to get to my vacation place. this sprinter has only 9,300 miles on it.
VISIBILITY - REARVIEW MIRRORS/DEVICES
03/01/200701
2007 winnebago view ,right side rear view mirror has a large blind spot. due to what i believe is a defective mirror as it is 2 inches shorter than the drivers side mirror. the mirror was made for a standard size van, not a large motorhome type body. the selling dealer, winnebago,or dodge does not want to take responsibility. *tr
