| Defect Summary | Federal-mogul is recalling certain replacement control arm assemblies, part numbers k7425, 10945, fa4510x, k7427, 10946, and fa4611x, sold for use on various passenger vehicles listed above. the ball joint on the control arm assembly can fail causing the ball stud to wear through the control arm housing resulting in noise and/or separation of the ball stud from the housing. | |||||||||||||||
| Consequence Summary | If there is a separation of the ball stud from the housing, the driver can loose steering control, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash. | |||||||||||||||

| Defect Summary | Qualis automotive is recalling certain aftermarket ball joints sold for use on certain passenger vehicles. the socket may have been excessively hardened which could cause it to crack near the retaining ring groove allowing the ball stud to separate under impact load. the subject ball joints were sold as four part numbers, d10945, d10946, g10945, and g10946. the affected control arms, d10945 and d10946, are stamped with the following dates on the ball joints: 134308, 135708, 100109, 102709, 104109, 105509, 107609, 108909, 110309, 113209, and 116609. the g10945 and g10946 are the same part as the d10945 and d10946 respectively. they are labeled differently depending on the aftermarket customer. | |||||||||||||||

| Tl- the contact owns a 2005 dodge stratus. the contact stated that while driving approximately 2 mph, attempted to make a left turn when he suddenly heard a loud clunk underneath the vehicle. the contact stopped and noticed that the front passenger side tire sheared and the lower ball joint had fractured. the vehicle was towed to the owners home and was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 129,906. pmb | |||

| I was at the store just left about to get on the highway to pick up speed with my kids and myself being pregnant when my right wheel folded and scared the life out of us after holding up traffic and thank god i did not get on the highway. the mechanic advised me that my lower control arm and lower ball joint broke and causing my steering wheel to losen up causing my vehicle to go to the right and could of caused me to be in a serious accident if i woudl of picked up speed with my kids in the car. i was not notified of the recall by email or by the used car dealership i bought this car from and still paying on it. i had it repaired and still makes a horrible noise and fear that the left side may also do the same while i'm on the highway. | |||

| Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge stratus. the contact stated that while driving at 20 mph, the right front wheel suddenly broke off. the vehicle was towed to a body shop where the contact was informed that the ball joint was not lubed at the factory which caused the wheel to break off. the contact felt that the failure was related to recall 09e056000 (suspension: front: control arm lower ball joint). the vin was unavailable at the time of the complaint. the current and failure mileages were approximately 78,000. | |||

| The events leading up to the failure were normal driving conditions. the failure was the top rear strut mounts, from the amount of back orders on the parts the failure is quite frequent. nothing has been done to correct the failure. *tr | |||
