PE10045 | DUCATI NORTH AMERICA | 11/04/2010 | 02/28/2011 | Fuel leak at pump/tank interface | 11V020000
After opening this pe, we met with subject owners, dealers, and ducati north america personnel.we learned that the subject leakage is limited to the multistrada line alone and is unrelated to composite fuel tank deformation.rather it stems from the inability of the original sealing o-ring to conform to the tank's relatively rough sealing surface.recall 11v-020 provides a new x section o-ring to address the multistrada issue and with that recall, this pe is closed for the multistrada.meanwhile, unlike the multistrada, the monster line fails to exhibit a current safety defect trend and, on that basis, this pe is closed for those models as well.
PE10045 | DUCATI NORTH AMERICA | 11/04/2010 | Fuel Tank Leak
Ducati is using a composite material in constructing fuel tanks on some motorcycle models.in some instances (the sport classic series, for example) the tank simply deforms but does not leak.however, leaks have been alleged in the subject fuel tanks when tank deformation compromises the o-ring seal between the tank and fuel pump.some owners report a pooling of fuel below the bike and/or on the engine when this occurs.web forums, too, are rife with related postings.most owners suspect the tank material is not compatiple with the ethanol found in today's highway vehicle gasoline.to learn more about this issue, odi is conducting this preliminary evaluation. |

The gas tank on this motorcycle is plastic and has swollen to the point that it will not securely latch to the frame. it has swollen against the latch that connects it and into the igition system. if you ride this bike, you are riding it without the tank connected to the bike.

I have a warped/expanding gas tank on a 2007 ducati monster 695 motorcycle.
02/01/2011 | 9000 | ||
Ethanol reacts with the plastic tank causing it to expand resulting in possible gas leaking. warping of the tank and expansion signs are visable. nothing has been done yet to correct this issue.

The plastic gas tank on my 2007 duacti monster 695 is expanding, the rubber mounts that hold it to the frame have now completely overlapped the frame on one side, and it is expanding over the ignition switch and putting considerable pressure on it. i don't know how much more it will expand before it cracks somewhere. the vehicle has not been modified, it is completely stock from the factory.

The nylon fuel tank on my ducati monster is expanding due to use of ethanol fuel blends at most major gas stations. it is beginning to leak around the top and swelll on the sides.

My motorcycle has a plastic gas tank which has begun to expand. the outside dimensions of the tank have increased and it now does not sit correctly in the frame, the handlebars hit it on turning, and it presses against the ignition switch. previously it opened and closed without problems, now i have to wedge it against the ignition switch to close it. the rubber mounts no longer sit on the frame. i have not significantly modified my motorcycle except for an aftermarket exhaust and some cosmetic changes. i have made no modifications to the fuel tank or fuel pump. i am very concerned as to the safety of this motorcycle now. the tank's swelling has made it so the handlebars do not turn correctly. if the tank swells enough, it will split open and i am concerned this will happen while i am riding. i have had the tank inspected by a ducati dealership who has contacted ducati na and have not yet received a response. *tr
