After opening this pe, we met with subject owners, dealers, and ducati north america personnel.we learned that the subject leakage is limited to the multistrada line alone and is unrelated to composite fuel tank deformation.rather it stems from the inability of the original sealing o-ring to conform to the tank's relatively rough sealing surface.recall 11v-020 provides a new x section o-ring to address the multistrada issue and with that recall, this pe is closed for the multistrada.meanwhile, unlike the multistrada, the monster line fails to exhibit a current safety defect trend and, on that basis, this pe is closed for those models as well.
PE10045DUCATI NORTH AMERICA11/04/2010Fuel Tank Leak
Ducati is using a composite material in constructing fuel tanks on some motorcycle models.in some instances (the sport classic series, for example) the tank simply deforms but does not leak.however, leaks have been alleged in the subject fuel tanks when tank deformation compromises the o-ring seal between the tank and fuel pump.some owners report a pooling of fuel below the bike and/or on the engine when this occurs.web forums, too, are rife with related postings.most owners suspect the tank material is not compatiple with the ethanol found in today's highway vehicle gasoline.to learn more about this issue, odi is conducting this preliminary evaluation.
