Tl- the contact owns a 2009 ducati sport 1000 biposto motorcycle. the contact stated he purchased his motorcycle new and he noticed the gas tank swelled and detached from the motorcycle body. the dealer advised they could chime attach the fuel tank back to the motorcycle. the contact stated he will not take the motorcycle back to the dealer, because the repair will not correct the defect. the manufacturer suggested to write a letter explained the failure, they advised they are in the business to sell motorcycle not to take a trade back they also, advised to purchase an extended warranty for the failure. the motorcycle wasn't repaired. the failure mileage was 16 and the current mileage was 119. li

Plastic fuel tank on 2009 ducati sport 1000 has expanded and is now loose on the bike, causing a hazardous situation. tank has been replaced once by ducati north america but problem occurred again only after a couple of months. it seems the plastic is reacting to the gasoline or something in it (ethanol) and bulges making it loose from the frame.

Fuel tank bulging and spreading at bottom front. this expansion has caused the fuel tank to become loose on the bracket, the tank wobbles and can be lifted from the frame. this occured after only three weeks of purchase date. i hav enot had resolution yet from the dealler or maufacturer.

My motorcycle is an 09 ducati sportclassicand has a plastic gas tank which has begun to expand shortlyafter i bought it new. the outside dimensions of the tank have increased and it now does not sit correctly in the frame, the handlebars hit it on turning. previously it opened and closed without problems. the rubber mounts no longer sit on the frame. i have made no modifications to the fuel tank or fuel pump. i took the bike to the dealer who submitted a claim to ducati north america (the importer/factory) and they refused to replace the tank. instead they shimmed it in place stating it is not quite bad for replacement.i am very concerned as to the safety of this motorcycle now. the tank's swelling has made it so the handlebars do not turn correctly, and it continuously expands as nothing got fixed and if the tank swells enough, it will split open and i am concered this will happen while i am riding. i contacted ducati and asked them to rectify this but have not responded yet. from what i found out this is a wide spread problem and ducati is not doing anything to fix it. must someone die or get hurt for somebody to do something? clearly these motorcycles have been sold and are still selling in the us market with a known defect. this is serious and your response and actions would be life and death critical.

Motorcycle: loose fuel tank due to expansion of the tank. i have a 2009 ducati sport classic 1000 and was made aware today at the dealer that the gas tank has expanded to the point where it so loose that it virtually lifts off the bike. this is clearly a dangerous condition but no recall has been issued and ducati has not informed me of this known problem. a new tank is being ordered under warranty but it is exactly the same component so the new tank will eventually expand as well. apparently the cost of the tank is over $2000 so once my warranty expires this is a cost i will have to bear. parts are on backorder for several months so this dangerous condition will have to persist for an extended period of time. there may apparently be a solution to spray the inside withsome type of epoxy but i am not willing to bear the $250 cost of doing that. *tr
