Consequence SummaryThe resulting fire or explosion could result in serious burns and possibly death.

2008 montivista 5th wheel model 31 lippert axels. these axels have been a nightmare i have had to have them aligned so the tires would go down the road right i had a computer alignment done. i wore out three tires before discovering what was going on. i had called siera rv in roy utah they sent me to dutchman, dutchman would not do anything and sent me to lippert. i do believe that my axels are part of the recall. montivista is just under the 2006-2007 grand junction fifth wheel same axels. other owners of the montivista line have had the same problems. lippert said they would sell me new axels at their cost but i would have to pay to have them installed. i do believe that there are allot more axels out there that are unsafe and need to be replaced by lippert and costs shared with dutchman to help alleviate these axel problems. all 5th wheels should have their axels checked for alignment and distance between wheels before they every hit the road. i have discovered other problems that dutchman has put out and not even inspected their product before selling. the built in vacuum for the 5th wheels had a 1 inch gap between the vacuum hose and the connector housing. the plastic protector for the 110 volt wiring bundle (fan and light)on the fan housing was not even on the metal frame work. this caused a short and could have caused a fire and burned the 5th wheel up. i have pictures of all of these. dutchman does not work with people once they sell you the product. the wiring bundle sits just under the microwave between the fan hood and micro wave. when i took the unit apart it was still on. char marks and melted wire from internal heat on the wire cause it to super heat. the improper installing of the hood caused the wires to chafe against the metal and wore through the insulation of the wire and shorted out on the stainless steel housing. i still have the wires and the pictures. there was enough charring to have cause a fire. i am lucky to be alive.

Over winter months my 2008 aerolite travel trailer had the vinyl flooring crak n rip open and the shower stall crack. factory looked at it and said it was extreme cold damage and knew about and seen it before. factory says its caused bby them not glueing the entore floor down only the edges so it shrinks and breaks. it is also my problem to cover repairs

While driving on the interstate before daylight i had a lippert rear axle failure on my 2008 dutchmen north shore fifthwheel rv, with less than 3000 miles on it. the u-bolts holding the rear axle in place did not sufficiently hold it. this allowed the axle to roll over backward and cock sideways. that in turn caused the rear tires to rub against the trailer frame and blow out causing a lot of damage. this is an extreme safety concern. i was told by the selling dealer's, general manager that they had sold 6 of these same units and 2 of those 6 units have had the same failure. obviously dutchmen mfg. inc., and lippert components, inc. have an extreme safety problem, and at this point both lippert and dutchmen refuse to accept responsibility for the problem.

TIRES

 1. purchased a new grand junction 5th wheel in june of 2009. first trip to use had a tread ripped totally off the tire. i had made sure that the dealer had put the air pressure in correct.. i followed the instructions in the manual only to find i spent more of my money to send the tire back. the tire was a china made tow max which was over 2 1/2 years old on a new unit. being the first time out i assumed they would take care of it.... no way.... the canadian tire supplier told me that since i did not have the tread, there was no way they could tell what happened to the tire..i have pictures of the tire... i was in the middle of interstate 40 at night with my wife when this occurred. no way was i going to risk the safety of my self and my wife to get the tread, which was completely off the tire. i called and they sent me a letter stating that i should replace all the tires since there was a tire failure. after spending $10,000 of dollars, they tell me to put more tires on the trailer for safely and fix the damage...some how this does not seem correct that we can allow companies to put old tires on trailers and then not even care of the safety of the people. grand junction who is owned by thor buys the tires from canada who has them make in china.someone should be responsible for the quality of products they are using. please advise who i can make a formal complaint against this company and all involved.... i would like to know if the tire life if regulated in any way. nothing was done to correct the failure of the tires other that tell me to replace them. no parts were replaced by the company and so far they do not seen to care i will contact consumer groups and do all i can to prevent this from happening to other people.. because someone is going to get hurt... tires can go out at any time,,,, but when you put old tires on and do not back your product, someone should be responsible before someone gets hurt of killed. *tr
