PE06005FLEETWOOD ENTERPRISES, INC.01/20/200605/02/2006INADVERTENT SLIDE-OUT EXTENSION MOVEMENT
This investigation was opened based on odi's receipt of a congressional letter on behalf of a constituent.the constituent reported incidents where the slide out room of his motor home would inadvertently move (extend) during highway use.odi was concerned that a fully extended slide out would degrade the vehicle's dynamic handling characteristics and/or possibly impact an object or another vehicle, resulting in a crash.odi contacted fleetwood and discovered that slide out rooms were installed in motor homes, travel trailers and folding trailers. as part of the investigation odi visited a rv show and the fleetwood paxinos plant to examine slide outs in various new make and model vehicles and gain an understanding of how the systems work.during the investigation odi learned that there are two methods used to extend slide out rooms.some manufacturers use hydraulic systems and others, such as fleetwood, use an electric motor. STRUCTURE

Leading up to the failure unknown. all the double pane windows have separated allowing moisture to form , causing a cloudy look and difficult to see the outside. this distortion is a safety issue and hazardous, especially trying to see out the drivers side window . contacted the manufacture and was told they would not replace the windows. *tr
VISIBILITY
06/02/2007
We have called fleetwood in decatur in many times that the motor home windows in our 2005 fleetwood expedition are foggy. they just keep getting worse and now all 10 windows are foggy. they said they are not covered under our warranty. they will not help us. we are retired and on limited income. we do not know where to turn.

Driver's side window fogged up because seal to thermal pane failed causing reduced vision to left side mirror on the coach. this creates a safety hazard because one is unable to see traffic out left mirror especially when sun is shining just right that creates a glare in the mirror.

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 fleetwood expedition diesel rv. while driving approximately 55 mph he noticed the seals on the three drivers side windows had failed causing air to come through the windows. the contact stated all the windows in the entire vehicle had the same failure except for the windshield. this also caused the window panes to get foggy and turn blue making visibility difficult. the manufacture was contacted and offered no assistance. the new owners that took over fleetwood offered no assistance for the failure. the failure mileage was 28,000 and the current mileage was 31,000. vwb
