POWER TRAIN - AXLE ASSEMBLY

Even with the motor home unload, veh. is over the gvwr on rear axle. unloaded the rear axle weighed 12220# and the front axle weighed 4740#. per the owners manual the gvwr is 12000# on the rear axle and 6000# on the front axle. this is 220# over on the rear axle and 1260# under on the front axle (these weights are with the coach empty!!). any additional load at all will make the front axle float even more. making for a dangerous steering condition. manufacturer even claims (per owners manual) i could pull a 2000# class 1 trailer. there is no way to do this with out making the situation even worst.

I was driving home from florida to new jersey on august 5th at 3:00 am in my motorhome (ford econoline e350, 26') with my family on board. this motorhome is meticulously maintained and tire pressure is always checked an maintained at 60 psi. i experienced a catastrophic blowout of one of my rear tires (rt side) and almost lost control of the rv. i put my spare on and continued on. 2 hours later another blowout occurred left rear. at this point we had no faith in these tires and immediately pulled them off the vehicle and replaced them with 6 new michelin ltx at the local sears (cost over $1000.00) these tires almost killed us. they had approx 6,000 miles on them total (no visible defects at all). *nm
