Fleetwood enterprises filed a defect information report dated october 5, 1999, to address 'disproportionate front axle loading' in 1996-2000 model year american eagle, american dream, and american tradition class a motorhomes.these motorhomes can have one or two slide out sections. fleetwood issued the recall after an investigation conducted by fleetwood in response to a second fatal accident involving an american coach product in september 1999. they discovered that one side of the axle may have more weight than the other, increasing the risk that the tire on that side may fail.odi has received two complaints on bounder class a motorhomes equipped with slide out sections andmanufactured by fleetwood, which describe similar disproportionate axle loading.both owners identify the left side with the slide out, as the heavier side.the subject vehicles are those motorhomes equipped with slide out sections, in which the owner can extend part of the side or rear of the motorhome outward from the vehicle.this would increase the weight on the side the slide out is located.this investigation is opened to evaluate the problem experience, scope, and the impact of slide out sections on disproportionate axle loading..

I am a very unsatisfied customer since the first day we bought our rv because we began having problems. on 5/2000 we attended to united rv at ft. worth, texas, where we bought it on 9/98 and had it fixed. we lost a lot of money in our expenses (which we should haven't paid) and, besides that, we attended a nearby fleetwood factory at longview, texas, to have it fixed again because it wasn't fixed right the first time. now, almost two months from our return, we began to experience lots of headaches since the main leaf spring at the right side of the rv broke risking my wive's and my lives due we were towing the rv at 50 miles per hour on our way back to our home place at mexico city where we live. thanks to a mexican highway patrol we didn't experience any accident. there are too many things failed, like a non-working fridge, no electricity from the electric contacts except for the microwave oven and the a/c, the lpg leak detection alarm has turned my wife and i crazy since we can't stop it and shut it off while the lpg is shut off, the bathroom door knob failed and my wife stood almost 2 hours inside the toilet without making her way out (what would have happened in an event of fire?), we had raindrops on the interior and it was all wet everytime it rained, etc. etc,, and i can still write a lot of more deffects. this rv we bought was brand new but it seemed to be more than 20 years old. we live in mexico city and we haveour rv located at a trailer park on the city of cuernavaca, 50 miles away from mexico city. i will appreciate any kind response you can provide.*ak

TIRES
12/26/2000105/01/1998
The passenger side inside rear dual tire on our 29 foot rv suffered total thread separation at 60 mph. this happened just after i detected a vibration that felt like an unbalanced wheel. i stopped the vehicle and inspected all 6 tires. there was no sign of a problem. i even touched each tire to see if one was a different temperature than the others. all seamed well, so i proceeded onto the highway to continue my trip. approximately 2 or 3 miles later, a loud bang occurred and i saw tire material exiting the vehicle on the passenger side. after stopping once again, it was obvious that the threads had left on of the tires. these tires were impeccable maintained. they were rotated at the prescribed interval, and i checked the pressures just before the trip (approx. 30 miles before the incident). i was traveling florida sr520, a smoothly paved highway. it was a cool day and the tires were slightly warm to the touch. while firestone tires was at a loss to explain the failure, they insist that the tires are safe and, because they are not on the recall list, they will not replace the remaining tires. i can only imagine what would have happened had the detected tire been on of the front tire given the gvwr of an rv. given similar problems with other firestone tires, i fear for the safety of my family when traveling on the remaining tires. i feel the nhtsb should investigate the safety of these tires. there are many vehicles on the road with these tires. roiling motor homes will cause a lot more havoc on the roads than have the many suvs that crashed due to faulty firestone tires.*ak (dot number: vn1l 1xd tiresize: lt225/75 r)
