RQ00001 | FLEETWOOD ENTERPRISES, INC. | 01/04/2000 | 01/04/2002 | DISPROPORTIONATE AXLE WEIGHT | 99V277000
Fleetwood enterprises filed a defect information report dated october 5, 1999, to address 'disproportionate front axle loading' in 1996-2000 model year american eagle, american dream, and american tradition class a motorhomes.these motorhomes can have one or two slide out sections. fleetwood issued the recall after an investigation conducted by fleetwood in response to a second fatal accident involving an american coach product in september 1999. they discovered that one side of the axle may have more weight than the other, increasing the risk that the tire on that side may fail.odi has received two complaints on bounder class a motorhomes equipped with slide out sections andmanufactured by fleetwood, which describe similar disproportionate axle loading.both owners identify the left side with the slide out, as the heavier side.the subject vehicles are those motorhomes equipped with slide out sections, in which the owner can extend part of the side or rear of the motorhome outward from the vehicle.this would increase the weight on the side the slide out is located.this investigation is opened to evaluate the problem experience, scope, and the impact of slide out sections on disproportionate axle loading.. |

The break away switch in mounted by a bolt through 1/4 fiberglass, the dealer changed the lanyard to a shorter cable under warrantee (old cable was comming apart), i pulled out of the parking spot after picking rv up and break away switch ripped out of fiberglass, and did not pull lanyard out of switch. i have looked at other fleetwoods and i feel all the fiberglass models have this switch mounted the same way without any reinforcment. had the trailer come off the hitch, it would have never stopped! there would have been a 11k lbs rig going down the road with no brakes! my dealer mounted a 6x6 piece of alunimum plate on both sides of the fiberglass and now it works (i have tested it). i am happy with my repair, but the factory has 1000's of rv's out there that the break away switch will rip out of the fiberglass if the lanyard is not pulled from a straight direction out of the switch. *ak

We experienced three separate blowouts on a trip rom phoenix, az to san ramon, ca. the first and third blowout totally disintegrated the tires with onl the partial sidewalls left attached to the rims. each blowout occurred in the rear dually tires, 2 on the right and 1 on the left, each one a firestone original equipment tire. the force of the third, right rear blowout damaged the tail pipe and subsequebtly caused heat damage to a luggage storage compartment resulting in melted luggage handles and obviously, almost a fire. after each blowout, we stopped and purchased and replaced with a winston (kelly springfield) tire and for the rest of the trip, we had o problem with the new tires, as the remaining firestones continued to blowout. *ak (tiresize: 225/75/16)
