Defect SummaryOn certain motor homes built on workhorse chassis and equipped with general motors 8.1l v8 engines, improper hardening during the heat treatment process can cause the fuel rail pulse damper retainer clip to fracture, resulting in inadequate retention of the damper. if the damper becomes loose, fuel could be pumped by the fuel pump into the under hood area.
Consequence SummaryIn the presence of an ignition source, a fire could result.
Corrective SummaryWorkhorse is handling the owner notification and remedy for this campaign (please see 06v225). dealers will replace the fuel rail pulse damper retainer clips on these engines free of charge. owners may contact workhorse at 877-294-6773 or fleetwood at 1-800-322-8216.

Defect SummaryFleetwood is recalling 509 my 2001-2008 class a motor homes equipped with axles that include bosch zops or zoht pin slide hydraulic disc brakes. when combined with occasional or seasonal vehicle operation may experience calipers sticking in the applied position. this can result in abnormal heat generation at the wheel end causing brake drag. the driver would normally have warning of the brake drag if undetected by the driver.

This investigation was opened based on odi's receipt of a congressional letter on behalf of a constituent.the constituent reported incidents where the slide out room of his motor home would inadvertently move (extend) during highway use.odi was concerned that a fully extended slide out would degrade the vehicle's dynamic handling characteristics and/or possibly impact an object or another vehicle, resulting in a crash.odi contacted fleetwood and discovered that slide out rooms were installed in motor homes, travel trailers and folding trailers. as part of the investigation odi visited a rv show and the fleetwood paxinos plant to examine slide outs in various new make and model vehicles and gain an understanding of how the systems work.during the investigation odi learned that there are two methods used to extend slide out rooms.some manufacturers use hydraulic systems and others, such as fleetwood, use an electric motor.  Propane exhaust leak inside motor home when the refrigerator is operating on propane and installed in a slide out. the ventilation system for the refrigerator that is installed in a motor home slide out has a bottom and top vents on the side of the motor home. convention venting for refrigerators in motor home has a vent on the side near the bottom of the refrigerator and a vent on the roof above it. the air goes in the bottom and out the top with the exhaust. on the slide out insulted refrigerator with both vents on the side of the motor home, normally the air and exhaust would be pulled out the top vent like a flue. but, if the wind is strong enough and hitting both side vents just right the exhaust goes around the sides of the refrigerator and into the motor home. this is what happens to me. there was a strong wind (45+) blowing against the side and refrigerator vents pushing the exhaust fume inside the motor home. the co alarm activated and we open had to open the windows, door and turned the refrigerator off. checking the way the refrigerator was installed, they only packed insulation around it but did not seal around it to keep exhaust from penetrating inside the motor home. now that i know what propane exhaust smells like, we remember getting that odor inside the motor home many times before but thought it was only passing truck fumes. it does not happen all the time only when the wind is hitting the vents just at the right speed and angel. when driving on the interstate and a truck passes pushing wind against the side of the motorhome there is propane exhaust pushed around the refrigerator and inside the motor home. *jb

Under normal driving conditions the brakes on my 2004 fleetwood pace arrow motorhome (workhorse chassis)will periodically not release after being used to slow or stop the motorhome. this causes severe overheating at the effected brake and necessitates to pull off the road, let the brake cool, and hope it releases. the first incident occurred around april 2009 and i thought maybe it was due to stop and go traffic but i was suspicious of the smell of burning brakes. i received the first safety recall notice from workhorse in april of 2009, but no parts were available to fix the problem. i had been advised by a workhorse service center that if i tap on the overheated brake with a hammer it may release sooner (normal cool-down time would be about 1 to 1 1/2 hours . the fourth incident occurred in early oct 2009 and was quite severe. when i tapped on the brake with a hammer, burning embers fell from the brake. i let it cool awhile and then began to pour water on it. i cooled it with water for about 1 hour and finally it released. total time off the road was around 2 1/2 hours. the next day i called my local authorized workhorse service center (kelley chevrolet) and made an appt.. upon examining the problem, kelley determined that the visible criteria on the brake did not match the criteria for the recall. kelley called the workhorse rep who suggested to lubricate the sliders, which kelley did. (my $200 expense) i put the motorhome in storage in mid oct 2009. i received an interim recall notice from workhorse december 2009 stating the parts are still not available. i re-activited the motorhome early april 2010 to prepare for my april 16 trip. the normal 2 1/2 hour trip took about 4 1/4 hours as i was off the road pouring water on the brakes. i called workhorse who said they can only authorize work per the recall. i took the rv back to kelly april 19. i am in constant fear of a fire or loosing brakes altogether causing an accident. legal action will be taken if need

While driving my 2004 pace arrow motorhome, my abs warning light came on; when i stopped to check out the vehicle, i noted that the right front wheel was smoking. immediately drove 12 miles to an rv service facility, where it was discovered that the brake caliper had frozen in an engaged position, overheating the wheel components and disabling the abs system for all 4 wheels. upon further investigation, i found that workhorse, the chassis mfr. for my rv, had issued a safety recall for faulty brake calipers for the 3 model years preceding my unit. the service facility replaced the following parts: r/f caliper, wheel speed sensor, front wheel cap, wheel seal, brake pads, brake fluid. *tr
