 Tl- the contact owns a 2004 ford crown victoria. the contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph he heard a loud rattling noise. the vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who advised him that the right rear wheel bearing and axle fractured and needed to be replaced. the wheel bearing and axle were repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. in approximately two weeks, he began to hear the same rattling noises again. the vehicle was taken back to the mechanic who advised him that the left rear bearing and axle had fractured as well and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not been repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 48,000. the vin was unavailable. rvk

SUSPENSION - REAR - AXLE - NON-POWERED AXLE ASSEMBLY

 Dt: the contact stated the rear axle non powered assembly experienced extensive wear. as a result, there was a severe vibration while driving. the vehicle was taken to a service repair shop, and the mechanic contacted a local dealership about the issue. a factory authorized axle replacement kit was purchased; part #3w1z4a109aa. using the new axle kit the old axle assembly was replaced. there have been no further problems. this vehicle was for police use.*ak updated 01/11/06. *jb
