FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL
85V061000FORD MOTOR COMPANYfrom 03/01/1983 to 04/01/1985V (Vehicle)8500MFRFORD MOTOR COMPANY05/14/198505/21/1985571301
Defect SummaryWhen frontally impacted into a fixed barrier at 30 mph, as specified in federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) no. 301, the left frame rails of such vehicles may displace inboard, pinching the fuel/water separator canister between the frame rail and engine sufficiently to displace the fuel/water separator drain rod, allowing the contents of the canister to drain. consequence of defect: fuel leak during or after a crash increases the possibility of a fire.
Consequence Summary
Corrective SummaryInstall a canister shield, a revised design drain rod shield, and modify fuel/water separator mounting bracket.
NotesVehicle description: vans, super vans, super wagons and club wagons equippedwith 6.9 liter diesel engines. system: fuel/fmvss 301.
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE - DELIVERY - FUEL PUMP
82V124000FORD MOTOR COMPANYfrom 09/01/1982 to 10/01/1982V (Vehicle)65001/21/1983MFRFORD MOTOR COMPANY12/13/198212/17/1982
Defect SummarySome of the involved vehicles may have a diode in the electrical fuel pump circuit that may short during engine starting due to inadequate capacity to withstand current draw. a short circuit would result in normal engine starting, but the pump will not continue to supply the engine with fuel.
Consequence Summary
Corrective SummaryThe dealer will replace defective element in the electrical fuel pump circuit with a new relay feed wiring assembly which contains a larger capacity diode, free of charge.
NotesVehicle description: light trucks and multipurpose passenger vehicles.system: fuel; fuel pump.consequences of defect: under such circumstances, a vehicle may stall withoutprior warning, creating the potential for a vehicle accident. (vehicle willrestart but will stall again in 5 to 10 seconds).
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE - STORAGE - TANK ASSEMBLY - MOUNTING
84V034000FORD MOTOR COMPANYfrom 09/01/1979 to 12/01/1983V (Vehicle)400005/18/1984MFRFORD MOTOR COMPANY03/23/198404/05/1984
Defect SummaryAttaching bolts on fuel tank supports may not have been adequately tightened; also, the supports are too thin. high levels of stress, which could occur under normal operating conditions, could cause cracks to develop in the support straps. if the fuel tank supports fracture, the fuel tank will slip from the normal position, and fuel leakage could result.
Consequence Summary
Corrective SummaryFuel tank supports and fasteners will be replaced without charge.
NotesVehicle description:shuttle buses equipped with mid-ship fuel tank supports.system: fuel systems; fuel tank supports.consequences of defect: fuel leakage may lead to a vehicle fire and personalinjury.
