Cruise control would not disengage at approx. 70 mph when driving on the freeway. i was able to reduce the speed by pumping the brakes although each time i removed my foot from the brake pedal the van continued to accelerate out of control. after approx. 15 minutes and a very fearful ride, i was able to exit the freeway and bring the van to a stop in a large parking lot. i was only able to do so by applying extreme pressure to the brakes and praying that they would not fail. i quickly turned off the ignition and put the van in park. i had the van towed to shamrock ford in dublin, ca. even though i was past the 5 yr. extended warantee, with the low mileage i contacted ford customer service requesting this be replaced by ford at no cost to me. i considered this failure of equipment a major safety issue. ford told me there was nothing they could do for me and the repair would by my resposibility.*ak

I drove my 1992 ford e-350 15 passenger van to indiana on friday. i used the cruise control on the highway. i arrived at 5:00 pm. and parked. at about 1 a.m. i moved the vehicle to a flatter area, so i could sleep in it at the campground. shortly before 4 a.m. i awoke to a smell and saw flames shooting over the windshield, coming from the engine. luckily i was able to get out of the vehicle, which burned completely in minutes. the local fire department responded. i contacted ford and i am now waiting for a written response. i later learned of the recall on faulty speed deactivation switches. there are no reported recalls on my vin through ford.*jb
