Brake failure. this has been reported previously and i have made numerous attempts to get it repaired at the dealer and to convey the problem to the manufacturer. the problem is intermittent and impossible to predict. one of the front wheels lock up and serve as the only braking force. in dry weather it will pull to one side and in wet weather it will skid resulting in no braking force. on 10/08/03 this occurred in a rain shower as i pulled into an interstate rest area (20-25mph). i first applied the brakes @ 100 - 125 feet from the rear of a tractor-trailer. with maximum pedal pressure nothing responded until i was 20 -25 ft from the trailer. the vehicle is a 1999 chinook conversion on a 1998 ford 350 motor home chasis. the unit is a death trap, a ticking time-bomb waiting to explode. i cannot sell the unit in good consience and had to buy another vehicle to supplement its use. it cannot be safely used in inclement weather or on unpaved surfaces. in the incedent above i did not expect rain and the shower began half way to my destination. *la

When appyling brakes vehicle will tend to pull to the left. this usually happens. but, it happens stronger when brakes are being applied at high speeds. contacted dealer, and the dealer was not willing to do anything.*ak

1999 ford e350 with only 48,000 miles has the brake lines so badly rusted that they are leaking brake fluid. the vehicle can't be driven until all the brake lines are replaced. replacement parts are not available from ford. i must fabricate replacements from generic parts. it should be a requirement that brake lines be made from stainless steel so they can't rust out. this is a clear dangerous condition that could be eliminated if manufacturer were required to use stainless steel which will not rust. i almost drove through my garage door when the brake pedal went to the floor when the rusted brake line burst. i had to jam on the parking brake to stop the vehicle. this happens without warning one day the brakes work the next day they don't. make brake lines from stainless steel so they won't rust!! *tr |
