Defect SummaryFord is recalling 225,000 my 1992-2003 econoline, my 1993-1995 taurus sho, my 1992-1998 crown victoria, my 1993 bronco, f-series, my 1995-1997 f-series super duty stripped chassis, my 1992-1998 mercury grand marquis, and my 1992-1995 lincoln town car vehicles. the affected vehicles were previously repaired using a wiring harness that is not compatible with the vehicle circuit polarity.
Consequence SummaryAs a result, the fuse is located in the output circuit rather than in the intended input power feed circuit, and may not offer the intended protection in the event of an electrical short to ground.
Corrective SummaryDealers will install a new wiring harness, or replace the mating electrical component. the recall began on february 18, 2008. owners may contact ford at 1-800-392-3673.

 Tl*the contact owns a 1993 ford econoline. while driving uphill at 10 mph, the contact noticed smoke rising from the hood. nhtsa recall number 94v128000 (interior lighting) was referenced. the vehicle erupted into flames and melted the siding of a house. the fire department extinguished the flames and a police report was filed. the contact has not spoken to the dealer. there was no current mileage because the vehicle was destroyed. the failure mileage was 80,000. updated 08/13/08 *bf the consumer stated a week prior, the cruise control stopped working. the consumer replaced the fuse, but the cruise control still didn't work. updated 08/13/08. *jb

 Consumer was parking and straightening vehicle out when it suddenly accelerated into garage. vehicle had been modified to a handicap van.*ak

 As wife was taking off from a stop sign, the throttle stuck wide open. driver was able to put the van in neutral and pull off the road safely. the van was driven to the dealership and the throttle body was replaced. *ak

 Tl*the contact owns a 1993 ford econoline. the contact received a recall notice in november of 2007 for the vehicle speed control: cruise control. the vehicle was repaired, but the dealer reissued a new recall notice in february of 2008. there had been no failure to date. the recall number was unknown. the current mileage was 309,997.

 Tl*the contact owns a 1993 ford econoline. the contact received a recall notice in august of 2007 for the vehicle speed control switch. she scheduled an appointment to have the vehicle repaired, but it caught fire before the appointment day. the vehicle was completely destroyed. the contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer. the powertrain and recall number were unknown. the current and failure mileages were 103,000.

 Dt: ford, econline 150 conversion van 1993, vehicle caught on fire. consumer believed it was due to the cruse control, consumer was driving and saw smoke coming from under the hood, consumer dialed 911. when fire deptpartment came they had to cut around the lift lever of the hood, when the hood was removed there were flames coming from the motor, the whole vehcile burst into flames, the whole engine dashboard melted. *ak

 I own a ford ecoline 150 family van (custom made). well just last week it caught on fire while my husband was driving on he highway. he had the cruise control, a.c. and the radio on. i has never happened to us before. i don't know if it did to the prior owners. needless to say that when help arrived it was to late the van was totaled.
