Vehicle was taken to power ford in valencia for standard service a week ago. 41,000 miles new tires bought- was told all was ok. one week later i am driving when suddenly speedometer stops and milegage is reading --- grinding nois then a wrench icon aoppears which means the powertrain is malfunctiong, then the air bag light went on and then an ! icon which means there is a problem with tires. terrified, i called power ford and told ot bring it in... i was less than a half a mile away, and put on my hazard lights and barely made it th e few clocks to the dealership. this si a haunting problem that i have read at least a dozen comments about the power train. had i been ion teh freeway i dont think i would be alive. please investigate this issue with the ford edge. i di not know the outcome at all.thank you

The transmission failed. as i was driving down the road it clunked very loudly as it shifted and then wouldn't change gears. i stopped at a light and the car would not move. the engine was running but the car would not go. by downshifting manually i was able to move forward and then got it to the dealer. they diagnosed it as drive and reverse engage but it neutrals out in 4th, 5th and 6th. they found metal shavings and chunks in a sample of the fluid drained. we bought the car used from ford. it was a buy back from the previous customer because of leaky axel seals that could not be resolved. had the same issue and the dealer replaced seals and things seemed to be okay. transmission always clunked randomly; dealer thought it was mounts. once we got new transmission we realized the old one always had problems. this new one shifts completely smoothly, which in retrospect the old one did not. *tr

While driving at speeds between 40-65 mph the vehicle will engage harshly with a loud bang while in o/d. when o/d is off, car will accelerate faster, when applying break there is a hesitation and car will not slow down until breaks are applied over and over again. *tr

Upon acceleration the rpm's will go up yet the car will slow down and you will feel a bang as if someone has rear-ended you. this has happened quite a few times within a year of us purchasing it brand new. the dealer couldn't find anything wrong several times i brought it to them. finally, i left it there a few months ago and wouldn't take it back until it was fixed. they re-did the transmission and said it is fixed. i have been having the same issue with it still. i almost got into a car accident because it did it as i was turning and it just wouldn't kick into gear, then a big bang and it goes. i almost got hit dead on. now they are telling me they can't do anything about it because i have 60,240 miles on it and it is out of warranty at 60,000. i have been complaining about it since they fixed it but everytime i went to bring it there to have it checked, they didn't have a loaner or the tech who needs to look at it is off. we called corporate and they did nothing. this is ridiculous that i am reading so many other people having the same issue and nothing is getting done - no recalls, nothing. this is unfair as to i have maintained everything on this vehicle and it should not be doing this. this is a ford issue and they should be taking care of this. it is not the consumers fault for poor manufacturing of a vehicle that was advertised so great! they should be fixing this issue before someone gets hurt or killed in an accident.

Driving home from work at a speed of 55 to 65 on i-65 in montgomery, alabama when all of a sudden my car begin to not recognize the gas . it slowed down suddenly and the engine began to shake. i made it to an exit by driving slowly with hazard lights on. we took the car to gilmore ford the same day. on 11/8/12 we were informed that the pcm caused the coil pack (2) to not fire and therefore burned it up. i asked if this was a known problem with the car and was informed by [xxx] that he has only seen it once. well i decide to look into it via the web and found that this is a known defect in the pcm installed on ford edges. my thought is that had traffic been going faster i would have had an accident in the middle of the highway with how quickly the car speed shifted down. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

It happened when i came off the highway onto the side road, there was a loud clunk in the rear of the vehicle and i lost power to drive, and when i pressed the gas it would only go 30 miles of speed. i went into a parking lot, turned the motor off and let it sit for 10 min. i restarted it and it seemed fine. but now on a regular basis it will clunk in the rear like i have been hit and then clear up and drive good. i have had it checked many times by ford and other places but no one can find anything wrong with the drive train. i notice on ford forum that many people are having the same problem. there should be a recall for this vehicle by ford to cover all ford edges from 2008 to 2010 and have the drive trains replaced, even if they can not find any problems. or find out what is really happening to this vehicle and have them all recalled to fix the problem. *tr

This has happened several times. the vehicle was moving forward and all of a sudden the air bag light & the check engine light came on & the display said no odometer available . when i came to a stop, the car would not move - it was like it was in neutral then all the sudden the transmission engaged with a loud clunk & the car moved & all the lights went out. a wrench appeared on the dashboard and the screen read odo error with dashes. i could not go. it was as if my car was stuck in neutral. even after turning the car off and on several times it did not remedy the problem. it also was shifting hard from park to drive, etc. *tr

What started out as noise in the rear tires, i thought, became very loud and distracting. took it in to a tire dealer and replaced 2 tires and had the same very loud whine, even the employee at the tire store was amazed at how loud the sound was. he thought it was bearings and i took it in to a friend of mine who owns a repair shop. i took it in to him because i thought my warranty was no longer valid. he repaired the very badly worn bearings and told me he was very surprised at how bad they were knowing how and where my driving was done. mostly on the freeways no off road driving. i decided to look on line to see if this had been a problem with other 2008 ford edges and it has been reported in the 2007's also. seems like a trend to me. i went into my ford dealer and the service manager said it has been seen as a problem and suggested we look on the warranty and extended service plan and see if it was covered. it was, under the powertrain warranty. i asked if they would reimburse me for the repairs? the service manager said they would talk to the ford customer service in our region and let me know. she said no! they would not because i didn't bring it back to them, remember i thought it was out of warranty, then she said i was not the original owner, i bought it from that dealer with 9388 miles on it. all the other warranties that came with the car were honored why not this one?? i was not the original owner for those warranties either. i would be happy just to be reimbursed on the bearings, the total was $550. i also have the expense of 2 new michelin tires @ $500. help!

My ford edge has jerked and jumped a few times but was told that nothing was wrong with it. well on friday june 01, 2012 i tried to put car into gear and it did not want to go, it started jerking and jerking. then it started going, lights started going off such as the wrench, tire pressure, and then odomoter dropped to zero and it said data odomoter error. the next day i turned the car on and was making a loud whining noise. i took the car to gulf coast ford in angleton, texas on saturday june 02, 2012 and they called my husband wednesday june 06th and told him that they had to take the transmission apart. said they had three cars last week with the same problem and they currently had one with same problem right next to mind and they said they are not sure why this is happening. ford has a serious problem with this car and it needs to be fixed. my car is at 93,500 miles and the transmission should not be going out already. i wish they would recall this car completely. i am ready to get rid of it.

We bought our edge certified through the local ford dealership and within months the transmission would violently shift between first and second. when i took it in they said they couldn't replicate the problem. it happens at least a few times a month and i'm nervous that there will be complete failure once we are outside the warranty period.

The transmission will occasionally fail to engage properly when accelerating from a stop. the vehicle will initially move forward but then will fail to accelerate as the engine continues to increase rpm. this has occurred multiple times. the first maintenance performed at ford was to rebuild the transmission. after the repair there were no problems for almost 4 months and then the transmission problem reoccurred. this last time it occurred almost caused an horrific accident. as the auto accelerated from a side street to make a left hand turn onto a four lane highway, the transmission failed to accelerate after its initial acceleration and stopped in the middle of oncoming traffic. a t-bone accident was barely avoided. the second ford repair was to replace a 'sensor' and was just picked up today from ford.

Occasionally, (once or twice a year) the vehicle jerks violently once between 20-45 mph when slowing and then accelerating. feels like the vehicle was rear ended or hit a huge pot hole. this has happened very intermittently. recently, it is happening once or twice a month. local ford dealer checked pcm (?) calibration and updated it to tsb 08. hopefully this will solve the problem.

My vehicle is a 2008 and it only has 109,000 miles on it and i started to hear a whining sound, brought it to the auto mechanic and they said that it might be something in the transmision such as a bearing. well to my suprise they transimmsion dealear advised me that i needed a whole new transmission. transmissions are supposed to last a long time and this is very unexpected. $3800.00 for a new transmission. i have always heard a glunking sound coming from the transmission when it shiffed gears or when i put in in reverse.

2008 ford edge has a serious safety concern that needs to be adressed immediately. the ford dealership and ford motor co. refuse any more repair attempts of defective vehicle. while driving at speeds between 40-65 mph without any warning or symptom the vehicle will suddenly make an extremely loud bang and violent jerk of the entire vehicle as if being rear ended. this occurs so fast and quickly that it is over almost as soon as it began. this is such a frightening and distractive ordeal for not only the driver but also the other occupants that family is afraid to use the vehicle. it is as if the transmission slips for a second then violently reengages. the problem first occurred in may 2010 @ 48k miles. now after 13k miles, 6 months and 7 tries at repair/diagnosis at ford dealerships and hours on the phone with ford dealers and ford motor co. the problem still exists! i really feel that ford was just stalling and not admitting to defect/malfunction in order to let the 5yr - 60k mile powertrain warranty expire. the truth is no vehicle in the world is engineered/built to take this physical punishment and not fail. i believe if this issue is not resolved it will lead to a catastrophic failure, and i pray that no one is injured.

2008 ford edge - transmission and acceleration defect. our edge hesitates when accelerating after a stop and then jumps forward violently. sometimes it will not go at all. afraid of running into something. we got the throttle body replaced. now the car will not change gears. rpm are over 7 and car won't go past 20 mph. we have had it in the shop 3 times for the same problem. because it often runs fine and then suddenly has this issue where it won't go, it could cause a serious accident on a highway. i've seen many, many other people complaining about this same car, same issue all over the web. ford needs to do something. started in april '10, issue still not fixed as of aug '10

I am another ford edge owner with safety concerns relating to transmission issues. my car upon acceleration got me far enough into a highway to be struck by an on coming 18 wheeler. thank god, he was able to drive around me. the rps roar and the car basically crawls, the transmission engages and when it does it feels as if you have been rammed in the rear end. i have read many many complaints of the same situation occuring in the ford edge. please investigate and have ford correct this issue before others are killed. my car is currently at the ford dealership, long lewis ford in hoover, alabama.

In december 2009, my wife and i purchased a certified pre owned 2008 ford edge se. the vehicle has been having transmission problems. it will slip and then engage very abruptly causing the vehicle to lurch forward. it will almost hesitate and then engage violently. the speedometer will also jump up and down +/- 5 mph. it feels like we are being hit in the rear by a car. the problem occurs every couple hundred miles thus dar. the vehicle was taken to greenway ford orlando 3 times, each after an incident occured. the first time they reprogrammed the transmission cpu. the second time they removed a nail from the tire. the third time a ford engineer came out and couldn't find anything. they will not open the transmission or do anything more. i have called the dealership and ford many times.

I have a 2008 ford edge and it is having shift problems in going from 1st to drive. this is intermittent and will not move forward at all. it has left me stalled in traffic a couple of times. ford service has been working on this for over 6 weeks and have kept the vehicle. they just seem to keep replacing parts after they reprogrammed the transmission. this is a safety and reliability problem. my wife is afraid to drive it if we ever get it back. they have only given us a six year old loaner! *tr

Well i bought an 08 ford edge 1 month ago with 400 miles on it. within the last month the veh is shifting really hard into 2nd gear. shop has confirmed problem i am stating is happening but per ford hotline no repairs are to be done until 2500 miles. car needs to learn driving pattern. the problem is it shifts so hard it throws my children back in their seat and goes into the red zone while shifting. my car now has 1,600 miles and still shifting really hard. the veh is now shifting hard into 2nd and 3rd gear. *tr

3 week old sel ford edge, with automatic transmission, rolls back while in the drive gear on any slight incline. nearly hit car in front of me quickly switching to gas pedal from brakes to avoid hitting car behind me on incline in stop & go rush hour traffic. safety issue for driving on slight inclines, in hilly areas, parking on any slight incline, and valet parking. complained to dealer, but dealer says it's normal due to the torque converter selected by ford. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while at a stop sign ,the contact attempted to accelerate, but the vehicle began going backwards. in order to get the vehicle to go forward, the contact had to apply one foot on the accelerator pedal, and the other foot on the brake pedal. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that nothing could be done. the engine size and number of cylinders were unavailable. the current mileage was 314 and failure mileage was 200.

While making a low speed left hand turn, the driver heard a loud bang and the card stopped dead in the road. upon investigation the right wheel including the disc brake rotor, caliper, and wheel has separated from the transaxle. the half shaft was pulled completely out of the transaxle and the wheel assembly was held onto the car by the brake line and the shock strut assembly. the lower control arm was completely separated from the wheel. the car was completely undrivable at this point and had to be towed. *tr
