Upon acceleration the rpm's will go up yet the car will slow down and you will feel a bang as if someone has rear-ended you. this has happened quite a few times within a year of us purchasing it brand new. the dealer couldn't find anything wrong several times i brought it to them. finally, i left it there a few months ago and wouldn't take it back until it was fixed. they re-did the transmission and said it is fixed. i have been having the same issue with it still. i almost got into a car accident because it did it as i was turning and it just wouldn't kick into gear, then a big bang and it goes. i almost got hit dead on. now they are telling me they can't do anything about it because i have 60,240 miles on it and it is out of warranty at 60,000. i have been complaining about it since they fixed it but everytime i went to bring it there to have it checked, they didn't have a loaner or the tech who needs to look at it is off. we called corporate and they did nothing. this is ridiculous that i am reading so many other people having the same issue and nothing is getting done - no recalls, nothing. this is unfair as to i have maintained everything on this vehicle and it should not be doing this. this is a ford issue and they should be taking care of this. it is not the consumers fault for poor manufacturing of a vehicle that was advertised so great! they should be fixing this issue before someone gets hurt or killed in an accident.

It happened when i came off the highway onto the side road, there was a loud clunk in the rear of the vehicle and i lost power to drive, and when i pressed the gas it would only go 30 miles of speed. i went into a parking lot, turned the motor off and let it sit for 10 min. i restarted it and it seemed fine. but now on a regular basis it will clunk in the rear like i have been hit and then clear up and drive good. i have had it checked many times by ford and other places but no one can find anything wrong with the drive train. i notice on ford forum that many people are having the same problem. there should be a recall for this vehicle by ford to cover all ford edges from 2008 to 2010 and have the drive trains replaced, even if they can not find any problems. or find out what is really happening to this vehicle and have them all recalled to fix the problem. *tr

After driving the vehicle for 20 minutes it began to slow down and the more gas (peddle pressure) we gave it the slower it continued. it felt as though it was chugging' along and 'sputtering'. *tr

I own a 2008 ford edge. i have had it for just over 30 days and have had problems with it since the week that i purchased it. i have had it to the dealership several times and they are telling me that since there are no codes reading out and no light on and that they cant replicate the problem that they dont know what to do. i am supposed to monitor and call back with worse symptoms. i called them in thursday because i was on my way to work and my car skipped the whole way up a hill on the highway and when i got to the top of it my car completely powered down and shut off with the key still in the ignition and in the in position. i had to get off the road very quickly to avoid being hit by a 18 wheeler. i am happy that my child was not in the car but i am now scared for my family and my safety as well as others. severely unhappy with this vehicle!!!!!

My wife was driving the vehicle and upon acceleration from a complete stop, the vehicle randomly would go into a neutral-like state. rpms would increase dramatically, but the car would crawl between 3-5mph. the message, od read error would display on the dashboard, power steering would go out and brakes would not respond well (it was as if the car had turned off). when shifting from drive to park or reverse, the vehicle would jerk forward violently, as if rear-ended. once the car was turned off and started again, the problem would go away. we brought the vehicle to the dealership multiple times and the dealership even determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. this was only at 37,600 miles. the dealer said it was a transmission issue, but it appears to be an on-board computer issue as well. after transmission was replaced, 5 weeks later had issue with shifting into first gear. vehicle shifted very hard into first gear. car is back down at the dealership again. wrote a letter to ford expressing my concern and requested the car be repurchased, they denied my request.

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the failure occurred intermittently at various speeds. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, where the technicians replaced the accelerator pedal sensor. after the repairs were performed, the vehicle continued to stall and would not restart. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where the mechanic stated the fuel pump and fuel tank needed to be replaced because the fuel pump melted a hole into the fuel tank, which could have caused a fire. the fuel pump and fuel tank were replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000. sm.

The 2008 ford edge's automatic transmission doesn't engage properly. when on any incline or decline, the car will roll when in gear. ford states this isn't a problem its a redesign. when the vehicle is put into drive or reverse, you have to hit the gas for the car to move, it doesn't start rolling when you let off of the brake. if you are backing up a hill in reverse and you let off the brake, the vehicle rolls forward while in reverse, it doesn't pull the car backwards still. if a child runs in front of your car while you're backing up and your head is still turned looking back and when you let off the gas to press the brake to shift from reverse to drive, that child or person could be killed. the transmission could also cause an accident in heavy traffic since you have to hit the gas and brake quickly. my wife was backing up in the rain and had to press the gas pedal to get going backwards and her 2008 ford edge accelerated too much and she hit my truck and after she had hit my truck that is when the backup sensors went off. there are many people that have brought this to ford's attention and the possible dangers and everyone gets the same answer from ford all over the country. ford states this isn't a problem, this is a new design and each of us are the first ones to have a problem and no one else has complained about it. someone should seriously look into the 2008 ford edge automatic transmission before someone is killed.
