| The agency, particularly in recent months, has been informed of incidents involving allegations of personal injury and death claimed to have been caused by safety defects and failures to conform to minimum federal motor vehicle safety standards (fmvss) on rental car vehicles for which a safety recall to remedy the safety defect or noncompliance had allegedly not been performed prior to the rental car company's lease of the vehicle.nhtsa understands that there is presently a petition before the federal trade commission (ftc) seeking to prohibit at least one rental car company from renting vehicles on which safety recall campaign remedies remain outstanding.the purpose of this audit query (aq) is to investigate recall remedy completion by rental car companies on the above-listed safety recall campaigns.these campaigns were chosen due to their inclusion of vehicles used in the rental market.this information is expected to provide the agency an indication of how completely and how quickly rental car fleets, in general or individually, perform necessary recall-related repairs or other remedies on the vehicles owned and then leased for use on the roadways.this aq is opened. | ||||||

| This vehicle was involved in a fatal one-car crash on i-96 on march 4, 2008. the accident was reported as loss of control at a high speed, and at the time, there was no suspicion of a mechanical issue. then in late july 2012, the recall notice for the ford escape with v-6 engines, model years 2001-2004, was made public (recall no. 12s37). we now have concern that this accident may have been precipitated by a vehicle malfunction. we have no evidence to this; however, the vehicle that was declared 'totaled' is still on the road and has since been in another accident. we feel obligated to bring this matter to the attention of the nhtsa, and ask that you look into this matter for the safety of others. . | |||

| It was happend about a year ago, especially under the hot weather condition. i am not sure that where the massive viblation sound comes from but most likely it feels through the steering wheel(steering shaft rod?) or brake pedal. when i first realized this problem, it was very hot summer day and air conditioner (ac) was on. i drove about for 15-20 minutes and parked the vehicle for a while (about 20 minutes or so). then i started the engine again and tried to back up the vehicle from the parking spot, it was happened. after that happening, i was having same problem whenever i was driving with ac on(i did not have the problem during cold season at all). now is summer of 2012 and this problem has been coming back most of time of driving no matter ac is on or off (it seems like getting worst?). past 10 years, i had several recalls with this vehicle so i really want to report the broblem i have in case. | |||

| My 2001 ford escape caught fire on july 20, 2011 due to a leak and a short in the abs moduler. my insurance paid for everything except what caused the fire. i can not get ford to allow me to claim my out of pocket expense due to the fire. the cause of the fire is now a recall, at the time of the fire it was a service letter. please help me recover the money due me. i don't understand how the insurance can file a claim, but i can't. | |||

| On march 2008 our 2001 ford escape self ignighted in our driveway after being shut off for over 2 hours an independent investigation states the fire in the vehicle originated at the abs module and was caused by a malfunction that resulted in an internal electrical overheating condition the car had gone in for all recalls up to that date. so either the repair failed or there was no recall for this problem. ford refuses to investigate thie cause of this fire | |||

| 2005 gas padle acceleration accident in 2001 ford escape . upon starting car it accelerated by it self , and i could not get it to stop. it sped up to at least 40mph with a mind of its own. i crashed into a brick wall and it took the jaws of life to tear open the car to get me out. i am totally disabled now with a severly shattered foot and ankle. i have a metal plate in my leg now. | |||
