Sticking gas pedal. seems to be more prevelant in the cooler weather. the pedal will lock up and no amount of force will make it depress. especially dangerous when a big truck is barrelling down you. have lubricated the assembly but this does not help. only way to fix ( and it doesn't always happen right away ) is to manipulate the pedal with my foot and try differnt pressure points.

When weather gets cold accelerator pedal gets stuck when trying to start vehicle and sticky when driving for a time after that.sometimes feels like it doesnt want to stop at stop signs or lights, like its still getting fuel. dealer wanted to change out throttle body for an outrageous amount. from my research this is a wide spread problem.

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact stated that when he attempted to fuel the vehicle, the vehicle would accept the fuel and the pump would turn off although the vehicle was not full. the failure was intermittent. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the vent line was the cause of the failure; the vehicle was repaired at that time. the failure continued to occur. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the fuel tank was defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the failure continued to occur. the vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealership again where it was repaired again. the failure progressed after the last repair. the contact called the manufacturer who took a complaint and advised him that someone would call him back. the vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the current mileage was approximately 50,000. the failure mileage was approximately 36,000-bk

2005 ford escape xlt v6. since purchasing vehicle in 2005 we have had problem refueling. vehicle takes fuel slowly with frequent shutoffs prior to full. the problem has gotten to the point now that it shoot the fuel back out of the neck almost immeadiiatly when you turn on the pump, even as slow as you can run the pump. in the pastwhen i have talked to the dealer they have told me slow filling is normal for these cars. it has reached thepointwhere it will cause a fire and probably injury if not a fatallity. what can i do if the dealer won't or can't fix it?

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact started the ignition in the morning on a cold start, and when accelerating there was a delay in the response time. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician stated that there was water in the throttle body which could cause speed control failure such as a stuck throttle. the throttle was replaced for the malfunction. the identical failure occurred on a separate occasion. the contact had concern of a potential safety hazard involving a complete loss of power under acceleration. the failure mileage was 12,000. the current mileage was 76,000. the contact stated there was a complaint previously filed with the identical failures.

I recently purchased a 2005 ford escape from my cousin. as i was purchasing the vehicle he did explain to me how the pedal would stick on cold days. going into buying it from him i soon realized what he meant. he had taken it in to the ford dealership to get it fixed. they sprayed a cleaner on the throttle body to remove residue. when i heard of the toyota recall i called whoolwhine ford lincoln mercury here in ms where i live to see if my vehicle was also one. i was told that this was not the first time he had heard this and to spray stuff in the throttle body until it wouldn't let me anymore. well, i am very worried about this situation. as a mom with a small child, i worry about the majority of other people and families that my die from this malfunction. what it does is the pedal gets so hard to push until you can not get gas to the ignition to make the vehicle go. i have had this happen to me several times. i can even crank the escape long before my journey and it still sticks. well, yesterday was the worst day ever. i am a mom and a student in school. i had gotten to school and finished my class when it was time to leave. i got in the vehicle and started to leave oh boy the pedal worked. i got to the first intersection to where when it was my time to go the pedal was hard. i had to coast through it and pull over. finally got it soft again and went to the closest place to get a bite to eat. sat there for at least 5 min letting it run hoping it would fix the problem for that time. when i was leaving it was hard again and i had alot of vehicles behind me so i coasted to the nearest bank. it took 10 minutes for me, while i kept pushing on my gas pedal for nothing. it is so hard you cant make it go. so, in telling you this that is 3 times i could of had a crash. i take my daughter to school and some morning i pray all the way that i make it without anything harming her. it is bad when you end up coasting through an intersection. *tr

I own a 2005 ford escape and the gas pedal sticks in place. you cannot press down on the pedal to increase your speed. ford states there is no problem.......it does it no matter what the temperature is, what time of day, etc. you press down and the gas pedal remains in place. *tr

My 2005 ford escape gas pedal sticks horribly. it is constantly sticking, and has almost caused us numerous wrecks. ford tried to charge me $360 to replace the fuel filter. i did not go through with it. i paid $120 for a new throttle cable and it didn't fix it as well. i'm at the point where it is to dangerous to be driven with my family, and i do not trust the vehicle one bit. *tr

There were no events leading up to the breakdown. the car simply quit running. it had fire but would not turn over. we had no problems prior to this. we took it to the ford dealer. the first problem they told us was that the chip in the key was bad. the had a new key made. from there, it was the pcm computer and then a second computer and then 3 power packs. they also replaced the plugs and wires and misc. other parts. *tr

I have a 2005 ford escape and for the last 6 months or more there has been a problem with putting gas in the vehicle. i can only put in approx. $2 at a time if not less before the nozzle clicks off. i searched the internet to find that other owners of my vehicle are having the same problem. one person posted that ford informed him that there could be a spider in the gas line amongst other excuses. in the end, he posted that there was no resolution to his problem and it still takes approx. 15 minutes to fill the tank. when i called ford, they told me the same thing about the spider and informed me that there would be a $106 charge to simply look at the vehicle. knowing this charge and the fact that others have posted that even after their vehicle was looked at it still has this problem, i decided to not have it looked at. today, again, it took me over 10 minutes to fill the gas tank and gas continuously spills out onto the car and it constantly clicks off. it is getting very annoying. *tr

New 2005 ford escape has numerous issues that are not being addressed by multiple dealer shops: - intermittent stalling, similar to problem causing recall of 2001 - 2003 escapes. car will suddenly lose power, resulting in loss of power sterring and brakes. dealer cannot reproduce, so will do nothing about it. - gasoline smell and loud knocking from engine in hot temperatures. - extremely low gas mileage, almost 50% below advertised mileage. these complaints appear in other reports as well, so this is not isolated. ford is doing its best not to address any of these issues and telling people to just deal with it. *nm

Dt: the contact stated there has been a smell of fuel in the vehicle since purchase. the dealership replaced the catalytic converter, but this did not correct the problem. the vehicle was taken back to the dealership, and they were unable to diagnose the problem. the manufacturer was suppose to send a field technician to inspect the vehicle. the fumes caused the contact's nose to burn, made her nauseous and made it impossible to drive. *ak updated 1/11/2006. *nm

We purchased a 2005 ford escape limited from courtesy ford in portland, oregon, on august 29, 2004. the car is getting 11/12 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway. we took it to the dealer the week before christmas and after some testing they were not able to fix this defect. since you advertise 18 mpg/24 mpg and that we based our purchase decision upon that factor, i would like this problem fixed. we either got a lemon or you're guilty of deceptive advertising. either way, it doesn't make me want to purchase another ford or recommend ford to my family and friends. i am looking in to my options, and am contacting you because i would like to find out as quickly as possible what ford does in these instances -- how well do you stand behind your product? you've got a great website and devote space to your environmental works... well guess what? 11 mpg is not good for the environment -- a hummer gets better mileage than my car at this point. i hope to hear from you this week. i would like one of three things to happen. 1) fix the car so it gets the advertised mileage; 2)replace the car with one that does get the advertised mileage; or 3) give us a full refund. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the engine light illuminated on the instrument panel. the dealer stated that the fuel rail pressure sensor error needed to be replaced. the flow in the fuel line was uneven. ford has been issuing recalls on various vehicles because the fuel rail has carbon clumps in the hose wall that may leak in the wall over time. the dealer informed the contact that she would have to pay for the repair. she is displeased and refuses to pay. the current and failure mileages were 42,750. updated 04/16/08 *bf updated 04/16/08 *tr

I am having trouble adding gas to my suv, it keep shutting the nozel off. i must very slowley add the gas or it will shut off. today 1/29/08, i added 10 gallons of gas and it took me about 20 minutes to do so. i have taken the suv to the dealer where i bought it to have it checked out. they replaced the fill tube and told me that it should be ok now, but that i should still add the gas at a slow rate because the new pumps at the stations are more pressure sensitive and will shut off faster. i am still having the problem and need a solution as i like the suv and would not like to get rid of it just because it takes so long to put in gas. *cn

The gas pedal of my 2005 ford escape some times gets stack to the point where i can't eccelerate no matter how much wieght i put on it. it normally happens after it has been idle for many hours and goes away after driving for about 30 minutes. it was like that since i bought it two years ago and has been getting worst lately. i took it to local ford dealer and they test drove and said there is nothing wrong with it. on 6/2/2010, i got stack in the middle of a busy intersection and nearly got hit from the rear and from both sides. it took me more than two minutes before i could eccelerate again.

The accelerator keeps getting stuck on my 2005 ford escape. i start it off, back up, put it in drive, press on the accelerator, and the accelerator won't move. i have to press on the accelerator really hard and then the truck takes off really fast and i have to fight with the wheel to gain control. my sister was also driving it on a cold day and all of a sudden the accelerator got stuck, the truck would no longer move, it finally started rolling down a hill and she almost crashed into a tree. she too had to fight the wheel to gain control of the car. *tr

Tl *- the contact stated that the gas gauge failed. the contact stated that if the vehicle may have 3/4 tank, but the gauge would move around from 1/2 to empty before she would refuel. the contact took the vehicle to dealer for repair, and she was told that they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle, and thought it could be a computer glitch. the contact continued to have problems with the gas gauge and the dealer diagnosed the failure as a faulty gas sensor. on dec 30, 2006 the gas sensor was replaced. the mileage at that time was 34,000, the present mileage is 34800. on january 2, 2007 the gauge read a 3/4 tank. the driver was traveling at 55 mph and the vehicle did not slow down or hesitate it just stopped. the vehicle ran out of gas on a busy highway. the driver was able to coast off to the shoulder. the contact stated that the fuel light did not come on. the vehicle was towed to a gas station and once gas was put in the vehicle it was fine. the contact stated when they put gas in the vehicle the gauge never went above 3/4 tank. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer who told the contact that the fuel sensor they replaced was faulty. the contact stated that her vehicle should beeps when the fuel is low and the computer also lets the contact know how many miles is left before the tank is empty. the contact stated she is still having problems with the vehicle's gas gauge. *ak
