My drivers side brake line ruptured and left me without brakes. luckily, it happened in my garage, so there was no accident. i inspected the other 3 brake lines and they were on the verge of rupturing. i replaced all 4 lines. i realize the parts are not covered by warranty anymore, but replacing brake lines after 7 years is much sooner than i would expect. brake lines should not be a normal service item like spark plugs. i like my 2005 ford escape. i don't want to complain about it, but i need to report this dangerous incident. it appears to me there is a quality defect with the brake lines. other escape owners need to know about this. they need to check their brake lines and replace them if necessary. i'm afraid someone's brake line will rupture and cause an accident. *tr

I returned home from a local trip. parked my ford escape in the garage. when my son attempted to leave with the car about 15 minutes later, there was little braking power. he returned the car to the garage and we noticed a leak around the right front passenger tire. when i inspected the leak underneath the car, and had my wife pump the brakes, i saw the leak was coming from the brake line connection of rubber to metal under the wheel well. i looked online and read several accounts of the same issue, with the brake line failing on the 2005 ford escape. i will be having my escape brake line issue repaired this week. *tr

In aug 2012 we were on our way back from a vacation and our abs light came on, along with a flashing 4x4 light. we had no idea what it was or what to do. the vehicle drove fine and stopped fine, except for a couple of times it felt as if the abs engaged on dry cement. we stopped to eat and shop for a few hours and the lights were off when we got back in the vehicle. they didn't come on again until a few days ago (jan 2013). however, i had been complaining to my husband recently that the brakes didn't seem to work right. i hit ice and the abs didn't engage ..no light either..but the grinding sound once in awhile was still there. so we took it in and put it on the computer to diagnose the problem. came back with 2 codes u2023 and c1234. which means the right front tone ring is bad. after searching the internet, i found this to be a very common problem. also got under the truck and sure enough the tone ring is cracked and spinning around loosely. the safety issue here is the abs will lock up randomly on dry cement when you start to apply your brakes. which then you can't completely control your vehicles direction and if you take your foot off the break to control your vehicle, then you may hit someone or something. i am thankful for all the info i have found so when it gets repaired they can't screw me over. *tr

I was driving up to a stop light so i removed my foot from the gas and to the brake, before i could get to the red light it changed to green, i went to press on the gas and the pedal was stuck. it would not go down nothing. i coasted to the side of the busy highway kept trying to press it and it wouldn't go down. after about 5 mins of just sitting there i tried it again and it went down without a problem. this vehicle was recalled in the prior years for this exact issue 2004 and below. however my 2005 is not recalled. it is now at the ford dealership and i am waiting on a cost estimate. the vehcile did tend to do this from time to time only when its cold outside. i took it in several years ago to be repaird and when they test drove it, it woudn't stick for them so no issue was found for them to repair. *tr

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving at any speed the accelerator pedal would stick in a partially depressed position and the vehicle would become inoperable. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic and the throttle body was repaired. the failure recurred. the vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealer, where they were unable to diagnose a failure. no further assistance was offered. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 89,000. sm.

Had light warning of brake failure. investigation discovered broken ring with teeth on front axle that senses wheel rotation. part is called tone ring ford part #7l8z-2c182-b. this causes a failure of the abs and traction control system. internet search showed this as a very common problem with all year ford escapes and is a very bad design. this $32 part causes a $300 parts and labor cost since recommended fix is to replace a perfectly good axle. it appears to be caused by expansion and contraction of the ring and rust between the axle and the pressed on ring. *tr

Brakes are making noise intermittingly. it sounds like blowing in a bottle. went to the dealership for service 3 times in the first month of ownership. they keep grinding down the rotors and it's not helping. apparantly ford corp. is aware of the problem and are trying to find a cure. they don't know what to do at this point. also, stealth security system failed, and the vehicle had to be towed back to the dealer for repair. this also happened in first month of ownership.

Purchased 2005 ford escape in march 2007 with about 80k miles. within the month, the abs light began to intermittently come on. it is now september 2011 and the problem still occurs and has not been solved. had obd ii diagnostic codes tested. no codes found while light is on or off. manually turning off the light is only temporary. there are no physical problems with the brakes. ford should have this recalled. please note that when abs light is on, there is clicking that can be heard and felt through the brake pedal while braking. the vehicle is slow to stop.

While pulling into my driveway, my breaks suddenly failed, which caused me to (thankfully no more than) run into the tree at the end of my driveway. upon inspection, i realized that my passenger side brake line that connects to the wheel cylinder had failed due to deterioration. after replacing, and inspection of the driver side, that brake line too was deteriorated to the point of imminent failure.

2005 ford escape.the toner rings located on the cv axles are breaking which causes the abs braking system to fail ,which affects the braking system when appling the brakes.it is a very common problem which i think should be recalled due to safety.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. on two occasions, the abs spontaneously malfunctioned. prior to the failures, the contact noticed that the abs and four wheel drive warning indicators were illuminated on the instrument panel. the risk of a crash was increased. the dealer stated that the front brake needed to be replaced at the cost of $1,200. the vehicle has not been repaired. the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer in reference to nhtsa campaign id number 07v156000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock:control unit/module). the failure mileage was 40,000 and current mileage was 80,000.

On 9-9-08 i was in a front end collision, approximately 40mph, airbag did deploy, however the powder that came out with the airbag made my face and eyes burn. my 2005 ford escape 4cyl. sustained minimal damage ($5000.00). it took 3 weeks to fix, which was no big deal. yesterday, 10-4-08, while driving home from work, my escape was running fine until i turned and started to accelerate to get up to speed (40mph), my escape took the pedal from my foot and locked it to the floor, i have been asked by several people if i accidentally hit the cruise, and all i reply with is it doesn't have cruise! as my car started to speed up i tried to stop, my brakes would only kick back out at me and since i was just in a wreck i was a little scared. i turned into a parking lot and drove in circles until i could figure out how to stop it. i tried my ebrake but it didn't work, i tried pulling the pedal up, no good, i tried punching the pedal with my foot, no good. i didn't want to do any damage to the tranny so i didn't take it out of gear, finally i decided to try shutting it off, it shut off and is running fine now. i am certain that this is a huge problem mainly because i have read all of the postings for this car and found that many people are having problems in this area. you can be certain that if this happens again and there isn't anything done to fix it, i will get rid of it and stop buying fords all together. i am very disappointed that no real action has been taken with so many of these complaints. *tr

I had a 2003 ford escape that was 2wd. i needed 4wds so we purchased a 2004 escape xlt based on previous good experience. what has ford done to this previously excellent vehicle? we have two major complaints, but nhtsa does not consider four attempts to repair ac that is leaking freon into the passenger compartment worthy of a complaint. so we will address complaint #2. vehicle brakes irradically, makes grinding noises, and brakes constantly hum. we thought this was due to being a 4wd, but after visiting your website find this to be a predominate problem on all 2005 escapes.

Purchased 05 escape at 40,096 miles in july '06. about 2 weeks later, rotors were warped so dealer replaced them for free. about 10,000 miles later they were warped again and they turned the rotors. about 4,000 miles later they were warped again so the dealer replaced them again. now less than 5,000 miles later, they are warped again. dealer looked at the car and refused any repairs, only noting that there is *nothing* wrong with the braking system, only the rotors are warped, with no known reason except it must be the way i am driving. just today now the abs light is steady on, with no reason that i can notice from my own driving. my own research tells me that it may be a tone ring on the axle, which requires a repair for over $1,000 for each axle, as the entire axle must be replaced to repair the tone ring. *jb

Have read on your site numerous complaints with the ford 2005 escape engine and the problem that it speeds up during braking. i have also experienced this problem. however the problem is the driver !! if you are large person or have large feet. during braking the brake pedal goes lower than the gas pedal and your shoe toe catches the gas pedal and accelerates the engine, this has happened numerous times. the gas pedal has very little resistance and you are not aware that your shoe is pushing it down. it appears also that the pedals are closer together than normal. i have other vehicles and have had many cars and this is the first i have experienced this dangerous condition. *nm

In 2006 i experienced the failure of my car to operate one morning. i initially thought that i had made the error since i have a manual vehicle i occasionally take my foot off the pedal; i had no idea why the car had stopped running right after i started it as i began to pull out of the parking space. the car stopped a couple of times which concerned me so i contacted the dealer in new jersey where i was located at the time for him to look at the car for this problem. he assured me that the parts would work and all was right again as i left the service department, new 5l8z-2c053-ba and yl8z-19048-aa parts installed. one year later, november 3, 2007 the same problem began to happen again. i immediately took the vehicle to the dealer and he informed me that the cable and the foot pedal vacuum were no longer operating (5l8z-2c053-ba and yl8z-19048-aa) as was the case the previous year and that he had to wait for a new part in order to replace these defective parts. i asked why this had happened again, and what i was told horrified me. the manufacturer most likely had not resolved the problem of the past and that the problem was in the parts. i asked why there was not a more life safety solution to this very dangerous problem and i was told that since this did not happen often it was not deemed a real issue. the rationale is appalling. how am i expected to be safe with this vehicle when the condition is not resolved it is just prolonged, with failure looming over me? how do i drive my child and the other members of my family and friends in a vehicle that can stop operating at any given moment?? my complaint is in regard to life safety and value of reciprocity. since there is no death as of yet, i must wait for the failure? this is emotionally stressful. *tr
