Over the past several months, my gas pedal has been sticking when trying to accelerate. it began in may 2012 and has been getting progressively worse. i thought it might have something to do with cold weather, but it has occurred at various times of the day as well as temperatures at throughout spring, summer and fall. i am forced to push hard on the accelerator when it sticks, which causes my vehicle to lunge forward. it usually sticks when i have completely stopped, but has often gotten stuck when accelerating after coming out of a curve i have slowed down to go through. it is a dangerous problem that seems to have occurred with several ford escapes in the past. *tr

In cold weather for the first 2 or 3 stops the gas pedal would not mash down. it stuck up. it would be ok after that. never a problem in summer. ford checked it and could not find a problem. i contacted ford and they did not have an answer to the problem. i felt like i was not the only one with this problem. finally in april of this year it stuck and i had to have the throttle replaced, a $383.79 cost to me. i contacted ford and told them i thought they should pay for the repair since it was a safety issue. they evidentially thought not because they would not take care of it. when you stop and start off and the pedal sticks and you are in the middle of an intersection and your car won't move, that is a safety issue. my son was driving in texas and stopped behind another car at a red light and started to ease up when the pedal stuck. he patted it a time or two and it jerked forward and almost hit the car in front of us. this happened the whole time i had the car until april of this year and after 2 or 3 stops, when it warmed up, it was ok. ## vin passed ## ford escape 2007 ##. *tr

While backing up out of garage, the gas pedal stuck. when colder out, i have to forcefully accelerator from an idle or parked position. i have nearly rearended people numerous times at stop signs, etc., as the car lunges once the accelerator actually does go. it's going to cause an accident, having to jam on the pedal that hard to get it to go. ## vin passed ## 2007 ford escape xlt ##. *tr

The gas pedal continuously sticks or locks in position after i have stopped either to make a left turn or right turn. this is very dangerous, especially when i am making a left turn and there is usually on coming traffic. i am very nervous to make left turns for this reason. someone will get killed or seriously injured due to this issue. *tr

On 02/09/10 i was driving my 2007 ford escape. the gas pedal stuck. i could only get it to work by using my cruise control buttons. i proceeded to my friend's house. it happened several times on the along the 13 mile ride. when i arrived i went online and googled my make and model along with the words accelerator stuck. i found several websites where there was a discussion of the issue going back to the 3002 model. i read that it happened to several years of the same model of vehicle. i discovered the fix was replacing the throttle body and it solves the problem. i called kendall ford (my dealership) and left a message for my service manager. he returned my call in less than 45 minutes. i explained, he listened, he told me to bring it in and said there is no recall so i would have to pay for it. i brought in my vehicle and left it and went to work. i called ford consumer affairs in detroit and spoke with a representative, the lady who answered. she took my vin number. i told her i researched online and this was an ongoing issue dating back to at least 2001. i asked why no recall she said ford monitors repairs and had not deemed this a problem. i told her it was a known issue and i would file a complaint with my state ag and she told me she would note it. my car was delivered to me at work and the cost was $305.43; $140.53 for parts and $164.43 for labor. i called my service manager and asked about the cost. he verified it. he told me they had done this repair many times on this model of vehicle. i feel since this issue has been going on since at least 2001 ford should have looked into it and perhaps this vehicle should be recalled. it is obviously a known issue. i have filed complaints with the bbb and the oregon ag. *tr

The suv is a 2007 ford escape, purchased in december of 2006. didn't have any problems until jan. 2009. the accelerator pedal sticks in cold weather. every day after having started the car. even though the engine has warmed up. you can start down the road and then suddenly the accelerator sticks, will not depress. sometimes it might depress and you think its ok and then it does it again. you can be in traffic and cannot proceed. doesn't stop until the car has been running for atleast 10-15 minutes. in warmer weather ( from april-december) it doesn't happen. *tr

Accelerator pedal becomes very difficult, almost impossible to depress, as if it is locked into position. this happens on the average of 4-5 times per week, most frequently when the car is cold and has been sitting...but occasionally as car is being driven down the road. last night i was in the process of merging onto a highway and could not give the vehicle any gas at all, as a tractor trailer was quickly bearing down on me. i had to coast onto the shoulder and was eventually able to stomp extremely forcefully onto the gas pedal to get it to unstick. this problem is becoming extremely dangerous and i will be taking the vehicle in for service to have the accelerator cable replaced. (assuming that's the problem). *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 ford escape. for the past four weeks, the vehicle has been accelerating on its own. the contact stated that the vehicle barely moves when the accelerator pedal is depressed. after approximately 40 seconds, while her foot is still on the accelerator pedal, the vehicle accelerates extremely fast automatically. the contact was informed that the throttle was the cause of the failure. the vehicle is currently not being driven due to the safety issue. she feels that the manufacturer should perform the necessary repairs. the current and failure mileages were 44,000.
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL - ACCELERATOR PEDAL

While driving in major traffic, i was trying to change lanes and put my foot on the pedal to accelerate, my pedal was frozen in place and i could not get it moved. my car started slowing down. then within a few seconds my pedal popped and i could accelerate again. this has happened four times each time, the pedal froze longer. the last time, was in april on a sunday and my gas pedal froze again. i was in major traffic and vehicles were driving fast behind me as a light had just changed to green. i tried to accelerate but my gas pedal was stuck, i was driving by a garden nursery (business) which has as huge dirt driveway, i skidded into the lot to get out of the way to avoid being hit. i would have definitely been hit if i had not of turned. my speed had completely stopped. in this instance, my gas pedal stayed frozen for about an hour. i kept putting my car in reverse to try to get some momentum as i could not get any speed going forward. finally, i turned my car off for about 20 minutes as i was not making any progress and tried again. after all this time, i tried to drive in the driveway and i got a little speed. i drove home and never made it to my destination for the day. i contacted the local ford dealership and asked them about this problem and if there was a recall. they said there was not a problem and not aware and no recall existed.
