In a letter dated august 30, 2012, the north carolina consumers council (nccc) petitioned the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) to initiate a defect investigation of alleged electronic throttle body failures resulting in engine stall or surge while driving in model year (my) 2005 through 2012 ford escape vehicles.on october 2, 2012 the office of defects investigation (odi) opened a defect petition dp12-006 to evaluate whether to grant or deny the petition. the petition is hereby granted on certain model years.the nccc letter cites two complaints of stall while driving in my 2009 ford escape vehicles that were diagnosed as failed throttle bodies with diagnostic trouble codes (dtc) p2111, throttle body stuck open, and p2112, throttle body stuck closed. the petitioner indicates that the owners of both vehicles reported experiencing repeated incidents of stalling and engine surging.according to ford, escape non-hybrid vehicles are equipped with electronic throttle body (etb) assemblies beginning with my 2009.vehicles manufactured between june 22, 2009 and october 15, 2009 may contain contaminated printed circuit boards (pcb) with plating variations. plating variations could lead to a lack of continuity in the throttle position sensor circuit where p2111 and/or other dtcs would be generated and stored.ford and its electronic throttle body supplier, delphi, modified the pcb manufacturing process and issued a technical service bulletin (tsb) 09-23-5.vehicles produced after october 15, 2009 incorporated etbs manufactured with a pcb process that resolved this condition.odi's analysis identified a total of 123 unique reports indicating allegations of reduced motive power or vehicle stall.depending on the condition of throttle control system malfunction, a driver may experience varying levels of reduced engine performance associated with three limp home modes.in two limp modes, reduced engine performance may maintain vehicle speeds above 20mph while the third is a limited limp home mode with engine speeds limited to approximately 900 rpm. allegations of stall appear to be related to the limited limp home mode.vehicles are not likely to unexpectedly stall as a result of this condition, but drivers may characterize the reduced functionality as a stall, even though their vehicle may still has motive capability.allegations of vehicle surge appear to be related to limp home mode operation.complaints alleging surge are most likely related to engine rpm fluctuations at low vehicle speeds or idle as the control system engages to prevent engine stall.in limited limp mode, rough-idle conditions may exist while the control system attempts to modulate engine rpms once the vehicle reaches a reduced speed to maintain approximately 900 rpm.separately, odi received 59 complaints alleging incidents of engine stall while driving in model year (my) 2010-2011 ford fusion vehicles.approximately 60 percent (36) of the incidents occurred at speeds of 40 miles per hour or more.eighty percent of complaints (47) were received beginning march 2012 and 14 complaints reported that the throttle body was replaced or dtcs associated with limp home modes. additionally, ford issued tsb 10-21-6 addressing dtcs associated with idle speed drops and limited limp home mode.the complaints show an apparent increasing trend.a preliminary evaluation has been opened to assess the scope, frequency and potential safety consequences associated with the alleged defect.see additional information for the voqs associated with the opening of this investigation.

In a letter dated august 30, 2012, the north carolina consumers council (nccc) petitioned the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) to initiate a defect investigation of alleged electronic throttle body failures resulting in engine stall or surge while driving in model year (my) 2005 through 2012 ford escape vehicles. as supporting evidence, the petitioner cites two recent complaints of stall while driving in my 2009 ford escape vehicles that were diagnosed as failed throttle bodies with diagnostic trouble codes p2111, throttle body stuck open, and p2222, throttle body stuck closed.the petitioner indicates that the owners of both vehicles reported experiencing repeated incidents of stalling and engine surging. in addition, the petitioner states that ford has released a number of technical service bulletins that cover a wide range of vehicles and throttle body issues related to hesitation and stalling, including 08-18-2 and 09-23-5.a copy of the petition will be placed in the public file.the petition will be evaluated for a grant or deny decision.

For several months, my 2010 ford escape would stall while driving down the road. there were times that i was going 45-55mph and my vehicle would stall. i lost power steering as vehicle shut off. i had to slow down and pull off the road and re-start the vehicle. this was very dangerous and scary. this happened probably 10-15 times until i could no longer get the vehicle started. i had it towed into a ford dealership and had their service department analyze the problem. i first took it by an advance auto to check the service engine light. the code that came up i believe was 9000. it had something to do with emission, fuel system concerns. the service department put a throttle body and motor assembly part on it. i haven't had any problems since. they also did an eec test p2111 and found etb to be at fault and replaced. i had to pay $356.52 including labor for this. i feel from reading other information on 2010 ford escapes that there has been a lot of issues with stalling. i feel i should be reimbursed for my expenses.

The vehicle experienced the exact condition as described in nhtsa investigation # pe13003. traveling steadily at 30 mph, felt a sudden 'thump' from the drivetrain. the 'wrench' indicator light came on the indicator panel and vehicle went into limp home mode' and engine continued to run at low rpm (@ 900). the throttle did not respond and vehicle could not be accelerated. electrical and hydraulic power was maintained, pulled over to side of road and stopped normally. once in park the engine began to rev erratically at lower rpms. turned off engine, removed key. i have an obd scanner which i used to check for codes - delivered code p2111. we were only a few blocks from our home, restarted the vehicle and it returned to normal operation and successfully drove home and has continued normal operation to present time (march 11, 2013).

Driving my 2010 escape on the highway the engine stalled. the speed i was going was about 60 mph. with no prior warning the wrench light and check engine light came on, the rpm's fluctuated between 0500 and 2500 and i could not accelerate the vehicle. the dealer said the electronic throttle body needed to be replaced at my expense as it was not under warranty.

Driving at 35mph, check engine light came on and suv went into limp home mode, slowing to only 10mph. after re-starting suv 2-times same error appear. took suv to local ford dealer tom holzer, and they said it was a failing throttle body sensor. inquired if there was a known warranty issue and dealer confirmed no, but a service bulletin existed at customer's expense - which was not agreeable. tom holzer service manager advise to contact ford directly (which we did) and ford said to contact service manager (which we did). after numerous phone calls and formal complaints we received no satisfactory resolution. ford was blaming the local dealer, the local dealer blaming ford, and we still had to pay $525 to replace defective throttle body sensor. (ironically our good friends have a 2010 chevy equinox with 80,000 miles that had the same problem and their local chevy dealer replaced their throttle body sensor and provided loaner vehicle during service procedure, both at no charge). needless to say, we were very disappointed with the local dealer and ford's handling of this known problem, and this will be our last ford vehicle purchase after 30-years of dedicated ford vehicle purchases.

I was driving on the highway and my escape lost power or ability to accelerate forward. the open wrench tool lite up on the dash board. my escape slowed down significantly. the vehicle continued to run and would drive very slowly but when i would press on the gas, it would not go any faster. once the vehicle was turned off and then back on, it appeared to work just fine. about a week later, the exact thing happened again when traveling at approximately 50mph. my car is now at a ford dealership, but they say it is not happening when they drive it and unless it happens with them, there is nothing they can do about the situation.

Driving in traffic slowed to turn left across railroad tracks and car died. when i tried to accelerate the gas pedel went to floor but car crawled slowly to where we could pull off road. disconnected and reconnected battery, car started ran 1 mile stopped again. friend cleared electronic error code with tester and car has run ok until recently when back gate will not open until error code was cleared by car dealer. after car slowing incident occurred we returned car to dealer where we purchased it and they said they never heard of that ever happening and they could find nothing wrong with the car. we fear it may happen again and lead to an accident.

The car engine accelerates on its own, whether or not my foot is on the gas petal. i thought it was transmission trouble, but not sure now after reading article in baton rouge advocate today. brought car into dealership at least 3 times, they cannot find anything. they say bring it in when it happens, but once i was headed to baton rouge and it just started racing, another time to gentilly, and other times just headed home or shopping. it has happened minimal 25 times. i will start logging the mileage, speed, dates, & times as of today...2/26/13. i realize it is what you are calling a power surge. i cannot wait to get rid of this car.
12/15/201228000
When accelerating, the car's rpm jumps really high but the car is not moving any faster. actually feels like it is losing power. exact same type of feeling as indicated in the 2/25/13 reports in the news on the ford investigation. took to the dealership twice and they could not recreate it.

This vehicle belongs to my daughter and while driving to get lunch the said vehicle slowed and started jerking and shaking. the engine didn't die but the accelerator would not throttle up. she eventually was able to return back to work and later in the afternoon had a doctor's appointment and she left work for her appointment and traveled about a mile before experiencing the same symptoms as previously stated. my daughter phone me for help and i went to her location and we traded vehicles and i tried to drive it but it wouldn't accelerate as before. the engine would idle and the speedometer indicated 3 mph. i notified ford and requested a wrecker and then was able to get the escape to drive about another mile before it stalled again. i waited for a wrecker that never came and i finally started the engine again and entered the interstate and traveled abt six miles at 65 -70 mph when it lost power again. i idled at 3 mph for about a mile to the ford dealership and they were closed. finally i idled another 2 miles to the daughter's residence and parked the vehicle in her garage.the next day i went to autozone and i asked them what codes p2111 and p2112 were and they advise me it had to do with the throttle body. i then drove it to the dealership at 3 mph and left it . i purchased a throttle body from another ford dealership and installed it in about twenty minutes. it seems to be running good now after test driving it for 15 miles with no issues. the vehicle's warranty expired @ 3yrs or 36,000 miles. *tr

December 28 ,2012- while traveling on the interstate at 65mph my 2010 escape engine cut off. i finally got to emergency lane and the suv was idling rough. i cut the engine off and restarted it in a few minutes.i took it to the ford dealership today. they ran a diagnostic test and nothing was wrong. they offer to drive it to see if it would cut off again. i have always bought toyota but thought i would buy ford this time. they are definitely a problem so ford stand behind your product and fix it before someone gets hurt or killed. *tr

While driving there was a sudden loss of power. the wrench icon lit up on the dash display & the engine light came on too. there was no response from the gas pedal at all. the engine stayed on & all other features of the vehicle worked. i shut the car off & restarted the vehicle & continued driving. this occurred 4 times within a half hour. it was a miracle that i was not involved in an auto accident. i brought the vehicle back to a ford dealer where they replaced the throttle body. vehicle has been operating fine ever since & the gas pedal is more responsive than it was before. the original bumper to bumper warranty expired less than 2 months ago & i had to pay for this repair. i am very unhappy. *tr

2010 ford escape engine stalls at random times: it's happened to me six times now. first while i was driving 65 mph on the interstate in the middle lane when suddenly, with no warning, i was no longer able to get enough throttle to continue moving forward. i had to coast to the side of the road. i was almost rear-ended, i really thought i was going to be killed. it is a very scary situation, going from 65 mph to nothing. the car just shuts off and goes into some type of rough idle mode and a little orange wrench appears on the dash. after stopping and turning off the engine it will start back up. first occurrence was december 7th, 2012, second and third were several days later. fourth and fifth were january 24th 2013 and the sixth on january 25, 2013. four times were on the interstate at speeds of 60-65mph. two times were on main streets at 35-40 mph. car was purchased new and all service as required has been performed at dealership. took car in after first two stalls they stated they could find nothing wrong.

On 30 december 2012 at approximately 5 pm i was driving my 2010 ford escape xlt on us 61 in port gibson, ms. i was traveling at approximately 55 mph with the cruise control engaged when the vehicle began to slow down unexpectedly. i glanced down to observe the gauges and discovered the cruise control had ceased functioning and the trouble light (shaped like a wrench) had illuminated. i pressed the accelerator pedal and the engine failed to respond. i pulled to the shoulder and shut down the engine. after checking under the hood for any loss of fluid or obvious mechanical failure i could detect nothing indicating a major mechanical failure. i restarted the engine and observed the gauges noting the trouble light was no longer present. thinking the problem may have been a temporary issue, i again proceeded to travel upon the highway for approximately 100 yards and again the same trouble light illuminated and i lost the ability to accelerate after reaching around 45 mph. i again pulled over, shut off the engine, and restarted. i managed to turn around and go home, but not before i had the same failure occur approximately 4 more times at 65 mph. i contacted ford roadside assistance and the vehicle is being towed to a dealership in vicksburg, ms, 35 miles away. this is the first time the vehicle has exhibited any defects since i purchased it in june, 2012 with approximately 33,000 miles on it. i feel this vehicle is not safe to be operated upon the roads and could endanger my family's safety as well as other motorists. *tr

Defective throttle body the 2010 ford escape not once but multiple times would go to idle and run rough while traveling on different roads at different speeds. the gas pedal would do nothing to make the car go but it was idling rough and coasting causing us to stop on the side of very dangerous roads. we would turn it off and let it sit for a few minutes and then it would start normal. the gas pedal would work again but repeat the same problem 5 to 10 minutes later. we were certainly glad this did not happen on the interstate in front of an 18 wheeler or we would be dead. the dealership said the throttle body is bad. the car is only 2,000 miles out of warranty from the standard bumper to bumper warranty, the extended powertrain warranty does not cover the part. so we are out almost $400 for a part that should never fail to begin with. *tr

At freeway speed the car lost power. we were able to pull to the shoulder of the highway. a small wrench warning light appeared on the dashboard. we checked the owner's manual, and it referred to a throttle/power train issue and told us to seek dealer attention as soon as possible. the engine restarted, so we continued our trip. we stopped in sulfur springs, tx, at the ford dealership. that morning the vehicle battery was dead (which was the first problem we have ever had with the vehicle), and we began our trip after jump-starting the car. i thought the stalling was related to the battery problem. the events were explained to the tech, we replaced the battery which we felt would also solve the stalling problem. the stall occurred the next day, and again on our return trip. i took the vehicle to our local ford dealer where the throttle body assembly was replaced. we have not, as of now, tested the repair at freeway speed, but were assured by the dealer that the problem was solved. *tr

My wife was driving to work down a country road at about 55 mph with the cruise control on. all of the sudden she felt the car jerk and a wrench indicator light came on. the car immediately started to decelerate. she would push on the gas pedal and nothing would happen. luckily there was no traffic around and she was able to coast into a driveway. the vehicle was basically about to stall out so she turned it off. after 30 seconds she started it back up and it started fine. to be safe we had it towed to the dealership it was purchased from. the dealership said no error message was in the computer system. after consulting with ford the dealership told us that they were pretty sure it was the throttle body that needs replaced. we have not had the throttle body replaced do to the fact that the no error message was in the car computer and there seems to be no guarantee that $500 fix will take care of the issue. upon more research i have done it seems like this issue is a very wide spread issue and happening all over the country. i am just glad that this did not happen to my wife while she was on a busy highway during the morning rush hour, which she does take sometimes to work but this morning choice to go the back way.

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph the vehicle stalled and overheated. the vehicle was later towed to the dealer where they advised that the radiator seal was fractured, causing a leak. in addition, they advised that the rear axle seal needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired for the radiator and rear axle seals. the manufacturer was contacted and provided 100 percent coverage of the repair. also, the contact stated that the vehicle would shift in and out of gear without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where they advised that the solenoid and another unknown component needed replacing. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 55,000. the current mileage was approximately 67,000. the vin was unavailable. kmj

Serious and life-threatening malfunction impeded my ability to control my 2010 escape occurred while driving 50mph on a very busy highway. my escape stalled suddenly without any warning what so ever in the middle of the lane while driving on the busy highway. as i tried to continue driving, pushing the throttle pedal, the escape would not go,it slowed down suddenly on it's own. i was able to ease off the payment to the side of the lane; however, i was almost hit in the rear by a auto behind me before i could get off the payment. i was fortunate to have been at a place where i could ease off the payment. the highway is curvy and hilly. this scared me to death. a wrench light came on indicating a malfunction of the throttle/powertrain. the engine was running fine. i turned off the engine and waited a few minutes, then i cranked it and it cranked fine. the wrench light went off. i tried driving it again, and once i pulled back into the highway, giving it gas, it would barely go, so i eased back again. i called roadside assistance and had it towed to the dealership. after it was inspected i was told the electric throttle body had malfunctioned and needed replacing. it was the caused of the sudden stalling while i was driving. my life as well as others were put in a dangerous situation because of this malfunction. i understand that there has been a lot of complaints like mine already filed here. ford should issue a recall immediately before any deaths occur. i had to pay $470 to get this taken care since my warranty was out 3/36,000. i was told that this was not covered by the powertrain 5/60,000. *tr

Throttle became unresponsive and rpm's dropped to idle. luckily was able to coast out of traffic. there was no throttle response at all. problem has been random in nature over the past few months with no codes being presented. turning the car off and then back on again solved the problem (for a while). it has happened while cruising at highway speeds as well as when pulling out into an intersection. yesterday, the throttle quit responding completely and had to have it towed. code check reported p2111 and p2112. dealership indicated throttle body failure. very dangerous as complete loss of throttle control in traffic and when accelerating into traffic from an intersection leaves us in a position of limited control and can surprise other drivers because of our sudden loss of speed. this looks to be a well known problem and is severely dangerous in nature. *tr

I was driving on the highway when suddenly i lost all acceleration and had to coast off the road. a wrench was lit up on my dashboard and although i had no acceleration, my engine was still sputtering/running. after turning the car off for a few minutes and restarting it, it ran fan and the wrench light was off. it ran fine for the next week until it happen again. i was pullin onto the access road to the highway and the car again lost all acceleration, but continued to run. this continued all the way home, which i arrived safely, luckily. i called a ford dealership and they were unable to get a service manager on the phone. they were supposed to call me back, which they never did. i ended up taking my car to another shop near my home and they told me that my electronic throttle body had gone out. they had recently made this fix to two other ford escapes, which concerned me. they also had to get the replacement piece directly from ford, which also concerns me because i am now convinced it is a faulty piece altogether. i still feel at risk as they have only replaced the piece which i feel may still by faulty. i am disappointed that ford was put so many people at risk and my hope is that this is researched and is recalled for peoples safety. i feel so blessed that my child was not in the car with me during these incidents although i was extremely scared for my own well being. i would like ford to be held responsible for this. *tr

My check engine light came on steadily out of the blue. took it to ford dealer and was told i needed to replace a faulty purge valve. part number:9u5z-9c915-h. i was told this was a common problem for escape's and fusion's. there were 3 escapes today having the same part replaced. not under warranty and $300. there is a technical service bulletin on this issue, but not a recall. seems like a common defect could have safety repercussions since is the fuel fumes not exhausting properly. *tr

First incident: nov 2011 - slowed to enter round about and vehicle stalled/lost all power. i drifted across the traffic circle, put it in park, and it restarted. second incident: oct 26, 2012 - stopped to make a turn and vehicle stalled/lost power. put it in park and it restarted, dealer said it was throttle body and replaced it (and charged me) and said there were no technical bulletins on this problem. *tr

My wife and i each drive a ford escape, one a 2010 and the other a 2009. in the last month we have each experienced a sudden and unexpected complete loss of power. in her case, she was driving on an interstate at highway speeds in moderate traffic. i was driving in surburban traffic at 40 mph. in each case, the engine suddenly stopped, no power, and the warning lights came on. after about five minutes, you were able to re-start, but the problem persists, so it is not safe to drive the car. the repair costs about $550 for each one, the dealer indicated it was a throttle body and motor assembly..

As i was driving the car the throttle suddenly would not let me 'go' any further and the car slowed to a stop in the middle of the road. when stopped, it shuddered in place until i turned the car off. this happened another time just after a busy intersection, but ford apparently does not deem this a safety concern, even though this is a family vehicle and the consequences for problems like this could be terrible. the vehicle has been in the shop 5 times in the last year for the above problem twice, another couple of times for leaking transmission fluid (which i am also led to believe could cause the car to stop in traffic if the leak remains undetected one of these times), and another for hard shifts both accelerating and decelerating. all of these problems are ones that ford seems unable to fix and doesn't seem to care happened. i keep waiting for a recall to be issued for at least some of these problems, since in several situations i do feel very strongly this was a safety issue and do not appreciate my children having to ride in an unreliable car. i also do not have the money to throw at a 2010 car every couple of months. i would appreciate your looking into these problems. thanks! *tr

My daughter was driving to school and as she was pulling off the highway her escape stopped responding to the accelerator, so she pulled off the side of the road, trying her best to not get hit by cars going much faster than she could move, and put the truck into park. i was now talking to her over her cell and i asked tried to push on the accelerator, but nothing would happen, as if the gas pedal was broken. she saw a little wrench in the lower left side of the dash, so i asked her to turn the truck off. after a minute i had her turn the key back on, and the light went off and the truck worked fine. plus, the wrench light was off. two days later the same thing happened, but this time she was driving down a residential street. truck lost power, and the gas pedal had no control and the wrench light came on. she managed to avoid getting hit as she slowed down and cars came upon her quickly. she managed to cruise long enough to get near our house and jumped in and saw the same thing she was experiencing. we parked the escape in the driveway and the idle seemed fine, but the accelerator had no response. i then turned the key off and back on and the little wrench light was gone and the accelerator was fully functional again. i decided to take it in to ford, as it has an extended warranty on it. they called us back later on that day and said there is nothing they could do, as they could not see any codes in the computer. i have read this is a fairly common problem, and in my opinion, very unsafe. when the truck goes into this limp modeyou cannot get out of the way of ongoing traffic. plus, now i am afraid to have her drive this far from my home. i don't want her to get stranded, and if the dealer can't fix it because they can't find a problem. what am i to do? i hope something gets figured out soon. this is not safe, nor an acceptable service response! *tr

In the span of 4 days my 2010 ford escape xls engine failed to turn over 3 times. the first two incidents were resolved by jump starting probably due to low battery output. so yesterday, i took the vehicle to a local mechanic shop and replaced the factory-installed battery thinking this was it. today this morning, as my family and i were about to head out for grocery shopping, the ignition won't start again. so i called for a jump starting service through my insurance and this time it won't start at all. it was towed and moved to the mechanic shop for further inspection. since it wasn't a ford dealership, they weren't able to do a complete diagnosis. but based on what they were able to do, it appears that there is a breakdown of communication between ignition and engine. i had this for two years now originally purchased from aafes military sales korea and the vehicle has never been in a major accident. i am completely baffled and irritated by all this event because there should be no reason for the car to stall like that. currently i am overseas in korea with the us army and there are only a couple of ford dealerships over and they are not near by.

While traveling about 20 mph down the street, the vehicle completely lost responsiveness to pressure on the gas pedal. the wrench light came on indicated a power train malfunction. i drifted off to the side of the road and turned the car off. i then waited about a minute and turned the car back on again. everything was fine and the wrench light went away. the car drove fine for another 50 miles or so. then it happened again. there is no warning and when it happens nothing you do can make the car respond. turning the car off then on again solved this problem. through searching through this database, it is apparent this a common problem with ford escape throttle bodies. most likely a defect in the part. *tr

The problem was randomly demonstrated several times between 8/31/12 and 9/4/12. the accelerator would seem to stop working or become unresponsive, most often at speeds of 20-30 mph. there would be sputtering, stalling, and then total stoppage.. the motor was running but there seemed to be no fuel flow. i would turn it off, wait several seconds, restart it, and everything would work smoothly until, with no warning, the pattern would repeat itself. it occurred five times /3 miles, two times/1 mile, and two times/0.5 mile. early on 9/4, the pattern repeated three times on the way to the repair shop. these incidents produced anxiety for me and i was going slow. we did not drive the vehicle over the holiday weekend as we were concerned that this would happen on interstate highways when we would be traveling at high speeds.the error trouble codes were po685, p2111, p2112. he said the car was not safe to drive until it was repaired. since the mechanic reported throttle body being the problem i researched the throttle body as it relates to the ford escape. it causes me great concern that this has been demonstrated to be a dangerous and potentially life-threatening problem on the escape since 2000 and i bought 3 new escapes within that time period; a 2002, a 2007, and the 2010 escape, and there has been no effective, corrective action taken to resolve this. the dealership has said there will be no reimbursement of the $475.00 and this part is not under any warranty. although the money is an issue, the greater issue is the need to prevent future deaths. i have the old part that was replaced and i am willing to do whatever i can to force this problem to be resolved.in the interest of public safety i urge you to issue an immediate recall until this problem is resolved. thank you for your interest. *tr

The vehicle's accelerator (gas) pedal randomly stops working resulting in immediate loss of speed and power to the engine. accelerator is unresponsive and vehicle will sputter/crawl to 5 mph until ignition is turned off and car restarted. after restart, vehicle runs normal until problem occurs again (sometimes within minutes). problem occurs randomly as little as 1 time per trip to as many as 8 times in a 25 minute commute. problem occurred 12 times the other day with many of them on a multilane interstate while traveling 65 mph in the far left lane with nowhere to quickly pull-off the road. very dangerous when it occurs on the interstate and you quickly have to maneuver to change lanes and pull off the road or risk coming to a stop in the middle of a busy highway. this problem also causes the vehicle to sometimes run rough and negatively impact the emissions. the error code from the vehicle's computer is p2112 which is related to the throttle body. i have researched this problem on the internet and discovered it's an extremely common and very serious problem with this vehicle. a recall needs to be issued before someone gets killed. *tr

Driver was accelerating at 35 mph and 2010 ford escape engine became non-responsive. attempts to press the accelerator were unproductive. powertrain light came on. vehicle coasted to shoulder of road and was turned off and restarted. powertrain light went out upon restarting. vehicle inspection at ford dealer revealed no problems. three days alter, same incident happened with a different driver. the experience was described as the gas pedal being disengaged from the engine.

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving, the wrench symbol warning light illuminated. the contact lost control of the vehicle and although the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to accelerate. the contact stopped and turned the vehicle off, restarted and the failure was resolved momentarily. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to dealer where the failure was located at the electronic throttle control. the vehicle was repaired by replacing the throttle body and relay. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and a claim was filed. the current mileage was 42,000. the approximate failure mileage was 37,000. kmj

I was going approx. 30 - 35 mph and my car started jerking and sputtering as if it were out of gas then just died in the middle of an intersection. my husband had to push me across three lanes of traffic to a station where we bought gas. the car started right up so we went continued on with our business. we got on the interstate and was going about 65 mph and the same thing happened. i got it on the shoulder and it died again so we called the extended warranty co. (which charged me an additional $200 deductible on top of the cost of the warranty) and they had it towed to the nearest ford dealership which was on the other side of the interstate. my sister has the same car (only a year newer) and the exact same thing happened to her while she was on vacation in indiana. in researching the incident we discovered this is a very common problem in the escape. the mechanic at the ford dealership where she had her car towed to made the statement that he has been waiting for two years for a recall on this part. if this is a common issue then why hasn't ford issued a recall (recall even a ford mechanic is waiting for)? in researching we also discovered another issued with the back window exploding. i do not fee safe drivng my escape (which i absolutely love). i am ready to trade it in . oh, and the mechanic also said the part he replaced was the exact same part as the one that was originally in the car. when asked what is to keep this from happening again and he said nothing because it is the same part. so, they took a defaulted part out and replaced it with another defaulted part. i would just like to know why a recall hasn't been issued on this part. thanks for your time.

I had just entered the interstate and was accelerating up to speed. suddenly there was no power, a light on the dash came on and there was a signal. i pulled off to the side of the interstate and waited about 30 seconds. the vehicle restarted and i went on with my business. later that day the same thing happend at a stop light. when i got home i contacted the local ford dealer. they said it was the throttle body and it was out of specifications by 8 or 9 percent. they also stated it was not covered by the warrenty. i told them it was a cpo vehicle that i had purchased 3 days before. i paid the bill and my dealer reimbursed me the $100 deductable due to the first dealer filing the paperwork incorrectly. i have had no problems with it since and it now has 48,000 miles on it.

While make a moving left hand turn... engine stopped running. as i came out of the turn & started to try to accelerate i quickly realized i had no engine power... drifted for about 50 yards & pulled over to the side of the street. tried turning engine on... vehicle started right up. went on my way. the next day i took the escape straight down to our ford dealership. ford ran a bunch of tests but could not find anything wrong. i am afraid to let my wife drive the vehicle now (her vehicle) because of this situation. i have been driving since i was 11 years old. i am now nearly 40. i have never experienced anything like this situation. i looked all around the steering wheel/etc. trying to figure out if there was someway i could have turned off the engine (besides the keys)... i cannot see any other possibility... the vehicle was still in drive & the fuel tank was more than half full. the vehicle key in the ignition was still turned on when this happened. i cannot say for sure that the power steering was absent when the engine initially turned off... did i still have a very small amount of engine power?... i do not know... but i could not accelerate. please contact me guys if you can help me with this... thank you.

Was stopped in traffic - traffic began to move, i pressed on accelerator and proceeded. hit about 5 mph and engine lost power completely and steering wheel locked up - radio and a/c remained on. battery and oil warning lamps on dash illuminated. was able to put vehicle in neutral and move to side of road. turned ignition off and was able to re-start vehicle as normal. proceeded to my destination as normal.

Driving off road up a steep incline (40-45 degrees), the vehicle came to a halt. there wasn't any power going to the tires even though i had the accelerator pedal to the floor. the engine rpm would only rev up to about 1200 rpm. it felt as if there was a disconnect between the transmission and the engine as there was no power being delivered to the tires. the tires did not loose traction or spin either. what was especially unsafe about this is that it was extremely hazardous backing down the steep hill i had tried to ascend. i was trying to back down slowly by using the brake, but many times the brakes would lock up causing the vehicle to shift and slide sometimes sideways which could have caused the vehicle to roll. i tried to go up the hill again to no avail. this vehicle is used by the us forest service in which many times the vehicle is required to go of road on forest service roads. there is a section in the owner's manual about off road driving, but it makes no mention that the vehicle should not be driven up steep inclines.
