I was driving home around 9 pm. it was about 40 degrees outside and the rear defroster was on. my two kids were in the back seat and my husband was in the passenger seat. the rear window of my 2006 ford escape just shattered. we pulled over to see if someone had thrown something at the car, but there was nobody around except a father and his young children. he hadn't seen anything but said he heard the window break as we drove by. there was glass on the inside and outside of the car. i am thankful that my kids were not hurt, but i am shocked that something like this could happen. i looked this up online and have found many other complaints of this same thing happening to other people.

When in the middle of an intersection, suddenly the stop safely now light came on and the vehicle immediately shut down. the shut down appears to have been caused by a faulty coolant system. from online reports, this is a frequent problem with this model and is very unsafe. i was almost hit by surrounding traffic because of the immediate loss of power and control.

My 2006 ford escape hybrid cut off the combustion engine while traveling down a country rd. was able to pull off with declining power in the electric engine. display read pull over safely and nothing else. i brought it in to both a ford dealership who referred me to a toyota dealership because they didn't have anyone who knew about hybrid cars. since the problem did not occur at the time i brought it in and there were no problems showing on a diagnostic test they could not do anything. the suv has done this numerous times since and sometimes shuts off both engines in the middle of the highway. i thought speed and hard driving were the problem which it tends to happen more so on 45min or greater drives but has been known to do this at 15mph in residential areas. very scary, especially on crowded high speed roads as you cannot pull over safely with neither motor running. if their excuse is its a safety feature it is not very safe. i contacted ford via e-mail and they were nice enough to refer me back to the original ford dealership and send the dealership the e-mail i had sent to their customer support in confidence stating i did not trust the dealership and they should investigate their practices (for previous reasons relating to other car issues). saw many posts in forums that this problem relates to the cooling pump for the electric motor. ordering a new coolant pump online as i will not go to the ford (as i saw a post eliquently put) stealership.

We were traveling on the freeway when a warning appeared on the display stop safely now . the engine lost power and we managed to move the car to the side of the road. i restarted the car and it appeared to work ok. drove another 10 miles and the stop safely now reappeared and the car lost power. we pulled over. we waited for 10 minutes, restarted the car and it drove us home. later when we were driving up our street, the same thing occurred.

While driving at 70 mph on the highway, vehicle suddenly stops without warning and displays a stop safely now message. this happens on longer trips. it is very dangerous as there is no warning and no way to get off the highway. we are no longer safe to travel on the highway in this vehicle. this is a danger to all on the road and has been reported over and over happening with these vehicles.

This is the second time in two months car warnings to stop vehicle safety in a middle of highways. we just had a few seconds to pulled vehicle off the road and is very dangerous menouver it. once we pulled it off we turned off engine and waited for a few minutes to restarted again to complete our destination. this is a very delicate situation due the short time to react when engine suddenly turns off. we have two kids and our life had been in tremendously danger to be hit by another car.

Since 2010, when i've driven my car on the highway the stop safely light comes on. it stops right in traffic within minutes, leaving me know time to pull off. i've taken the car to the dealer and had all kinds of work completed from breaks to tuneup, then it starts again. this week was the work, june 3, 2012 the car stopped on a major highway in chicago and i was really scared for my life as other cars had to pull on their brakes. i have been to several dealers to tell me that nothing was wrong since 2012, while others tell me once we fix the brakes, the fuel filter, etc then the light will stay off, i've had no such luck. i invested a lot of money for this car only to be scared to drive it. i'm a mom of four children and i have not received any help from ford. i keep getting fix this or that only to have the same light come on and be stopped again, time after time.

I was driving approximately 40 miles per hour, approaching a red light and busy intersection. i applied brakes (via pedal) as usual, but had no braking power / corresponding slowdown. i had to jam my foot to the floor and cover the emergency brake in case i needed it, and thankfully i was the first car at the light so there was no accident. the rest of the drive, it took at least 5 times longer/more distance to slow the vehicle to a stop than normal and at the same moment i lost braking power, a chime sounded & both the abs and brake(s) light on the dash lit up; message center read service brakes soon. i just had the veh in for its 40k mile service 2 days ago & it had nothing wrong with it--brakes were all listed as top condition. now i'm absolutely terrified to drive the vehicle, unsure when this condition will recur (the lights reset & and i checked today--the brakes are working again, for now.) when the condition occurs, braking is an odd slow pulsing, like a slowed down version of an emergency abs stop (pumping the brakes feeling.) i've never had brake problems until this incident. when i turned the car off and restarted it, the abs & brake lights cleared and, for now at least, the brakes *seem* to be working but i can't chance it. getting it towed for service.

While test driving my 2006 ford escape hybrid at the bill walsh dealership in ottowa, il feb 2009, salesman mark imhoff told me that the intermittent high pitched noise from the battery compartment was normal. when i took the car in for service nov. 2009 at the tom wood ford dealership in carmel, in, i was told that the sound was due to a failed battery door actuator. i was told that failure to replace this part could result in the battery overheating, and possible explosion of the hybrid battery. i paid to have the part replaced, and it broke again may 2010. after doing research, i have found that this is a common problem with the ford escape hybrid.
